I just started running again a few months ago, and am loving the natural high. I don't want to stop! Anyone else want to support the continuation of exercise?
Thanks, Cristina

ME! I started running in June and ran my first 8 mile race on Thanksgiving and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I would love to encourage one another!

Yeah! I'm so relieved to find a running buddy! I do 3-4 miles, 2-3x week. I was about to start training for a half marathon in April, but heh...I don't know if that will be possible now...
My OB father said I could keep running right now, but I have NO idea how this pregnancy will affect my routine and my potential, kwim?
so glad to find you! :D

Before my Thanksgiving race I was logging about 30 miles a week, but since then I'd be lucky if I get 10 miles a week in. I'm sure my times will be effected b/c I'm not going to push it, but I would love to run to 7 months - or until it's too uncomfy.
I wasn't a runner until June - as in I couldn't run 45 seconds without being winded and stopping. I hated running, but I had to have a goal so that I would keep going to the gym. Running worked.
Have you always been a runner xochimama?

Count me in, too. I'm running (or maybe woggling?) a half marathon at the end of April, so I'm training now. It's so great to have support of other running mamas! Thanks for starting the thread, Cristina!
(For those who may worry about me and the half, I am a runner and have been for years--though I'm not fast. :wink)

I experienced something new today running and I'm positive it had to do with the pregnancy. I get on the treadmill and warm up at a very slow pace and kick it up to 10 mile/mph pace and by mile 2 it felt like my butt, hips, and lower back had thousands of tiny needles pricking me. It was so tingly. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my body trying to circulate more blood and oxygen to my little one, but it freaked me out enough to get on the recumbent bike to finish my workout. Anyone else experience this before/during pregnancy?

I am a running "returnee"...after, oh...ten years of not doing it. I just started again in August, and I started really slowly. It was actually a prelude to lifting weights, so I started out with, literally, ten or twenty minutes jogs, and am now running for about an hour. But I only get about 4 miles, so that makes me a turtle, compared to you, truelife!
Wow, awesome, vegan cupcake, that you are going to still train for the 1/2M. I was going to do the same, but I don't know if I'll be able now, especially since I haven't been running for that long.
I have no info or advice about the tingling, but yea, it would make me nervous, too. Over in the health and fitness forum, there's a very active "dingos" thread and some experienced running-while-pregnant mamas. They might have some ideas :thumb

I'm planning on running till around 12 or 14 weeks...or at least that's how it went last time. Then I switch to fast walking/lumbering :D
It makes such a difference with how I feel, energy levels, etc. Just these first few weeks are hard, being seasick and sooooo tired!

Could it be the hormone Relaxin making your ligaments and joints more movable?

Not in your DDC but I am a runner due late Feb or early March. Just want to say run while you can and cherish it. I've run several marathons/ half marathons and had grand intentions of running a half in early December. By about 16 weeks, I started getting crampy and having *tmi* a sensation of vaginal heaviness during running. It didn't feel right and my doc said to stop, so I did. Since then I have been swimming and using lower impact eliptical machine but it's not the same. I can't wait to restart and have my new jog stroller ready to go. Also, relaxin does crazy things to your pelvis. I did several long jumps at a local track this week and was shocked at how loose my pelvis felt and how uncomfortable it was to run at a significantly slower pace. Keep it up while you can- it's good for you and your baby but listen to your body and stop when it's time. Good luck!:thumb

how's the running going, mamas? :)
My last workout was so-so... not enough sleep, I guess, and I ate a big breakfast so my New Year's Day run was cut short to 3.5 miles, 45 minutes.
Tomorrow I'll be doing some boxing, though, which I love! :D

It's not happening for me. I'm having a hard time regulating my heart rate, and I'm still having the prickly sensation. I'm doing pilates, the recumbant bike, and walking so at least I'm staying active.

I was doing really good this summer but lately I haven't been doing much (I'm not much for :cold:) and I have to take one or both of my kiddos usually.
So I'm not sure if I'm going to try to do any now that I"m preggo or not. I was up to 4miles several times a week so I was doing pretty good. I think I'm going to do more walking when the weather gets a little warmer and stick to my videos for now.

I've had a couple of great runs and a couple of so-so ones. I'm pleased enough with it! On Monday, I felt a little sore where my IT band attaches to my hip, and since I had an IT band problem earlier this year, I need to be careful not to have that happen again.
I registered for my half marathon, and I'm so excited!
Truelife, sorry to hear about your continued tingles! How have you felt on the perceived exertion scale? 4 to 6 on a scale of 10 is recommended for pregnant women--and I think the heart rate standard was done away with by the ACOG in 1999.

You all are doing great! I can't wait to hear how the 1/2 goes!
Perceived exertion is a hard one for me. I know that I couldn't carry on a convo during my last run, and would have been annoyed to have to answer questions. I have to slow it down and realize that time is no longer my goal.

truelife, ooooh, i hope the other activity keeps you satisfied if you can't be running. please stick around this thread and keep us posted. this isn't for runners only... (maybe I'll change the title of the thread, in fact...!)
true confession: with dd1, I did NOTHING but lie around, eat, and feel sorry for myself (constant morning sickness + exhaustion + cold/flu season) for all of my first trimester, and most of my second.
But at the end of 2nd T, I started to swim and it was AWESOME. A lot of the uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms eased up, and I started feeling healthier and more capable of giving birth. :D
I don't know how long I'll be able to keep up the running, but I definitely want to stay active. :thumb

Yes, truelife, I too feel best when I'm moving! I have very mild nausea once in a while, but exercise makes it much better. Unfortunately, I fell down the stairs and bruised my bottom really badly, so running (the bottom jiggling) hurts right now! I've just been riding the stationary bike until my bottom is better!

Me, too, on feeling good while working out. I've had a little bit of nausea—nothing too serious. Yesterday I ran (ok, jogged!) 3.5 miles :thumb which felt pretty good. Some weight lifting, too.
I totally sympathize with the sore bum scenario: a couple weeks ago we went snowboarding, and I took a hard fall to my butt (icy patch!). It didn't occur to me that the next time I went running, all that jiggling :o would hurt!!
I don't know if I'll be able to keep up the snowboarding...I'll ask my midwife (first visit in two weeks!). We don't go very often, but it sure is FUN.

subbing!
Xochimama-I think I remember you asking this question on the fitness forum? I subbed there too since I planned to stay active during pregnancy even though at the time I was not pregnant yet. But am now! :)
I do plan on staying active with different types of excercise. I run/speed walk on my treadmill a couple days a week, and do workout dvd's the rest of the time. Is there a need to cut back at all? Or should I just listen to my body and keep going at my regular intensity as long as I feel good? I was working out to lose body fat before. Should I keep my heart beat below a certain level?

I'm no expert, but I've been getting info from other threads, and I've talked to my OB-GYN father about it, and everyone agrees that exercise—even vigorous exercise—can be maintained throughout MOST pregnancies.
Definitely listen to your body. Definitely ask your mw/doc if you feel or suspect a problem related to exercise.
My dad said I should keep my heart rate below 150 (HR is also dependent on age and fitness level, though, so get your own stats on that). I keep it between 140-145. I'm 36 yo, will be 37 when this baby comes.
The other thing to look out for is to make sure your body temp doesn't get too high. And watch out for over-exertion/exhaustion.
Basically, you can just keep doing what feels good. And if you need to stop running or doing other high-impact activities, there is always stationery bicycle, and my favorite: SWIMMING. Which is GREAT for pregnant mamas and feels awesome later in the pregnancy when you really need a break from carrying that heavy load.

Another acceptable way to monitor your exertion in pregnancy is using the perceived exertion scale. Anything from a 4 to a 6 (6 is a "high moderately hard workout") is good during pregnancy. So I guess that means, yes, listen to your body. There really isn't a need to cut back unless you feel exhausted, or pain, or have cramps or bleeding.

thanks for the ideas mamas. I'm glad to hear that I don't need to do only 'specialized' prenatal excercises. I got the Fitmama dvd with my last pregnancy but it was excercise at such a low intensity IMO that I got bored with it. So I think I will still order those new workout dvds even though their not labeled "prenatal" :)

can anyone tell me what mode a pregnant body goes into when excercising? When a body is not pregnant, any excercise will help burn fat, get muscles stronger etc, as long as it's a good intensity of course. But when one gets pregnant what will happen? If doing cardio, will the body still burn fat, thus helping with those problem areas like belly, hips, thighs? Or will the body start holding onto it in case it needs it to help develop the baby and instead just slow down extra fat gain? I'm still doing moderate excercise and speed walking, and would love if that extra back fat would dissappear but don't know if that is a wish that just won't come right now. :o

I'm not a runner - but I work out with a personal trainer three times a week and try to walk about two fast miles two days a week.
An excellent excellent book is Exercising Through Your Pregnancy (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1886039593/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=IV0V87UTEFK0T&colid=3UXNKHK1HM0FX) I like the fact that the book is scientific research backed.

I hear ya' cupcake... somehow the nausea and exhaustion team up to make me want to ...um...SLEEP?! whenever I have a couple of free hours.
I had my first visit with the m/w though, and she agreed that exercise—even getting out for walks—would be really good for dealing with the depression. I KNOW this, but it's sooooo hard to motivate sometimes...
But I'm gonna try to stay with it. Also plan to go back to my acupuncturist, who I :love !!! After a few treatments, I inevitably feel GREAT. Sleep better, too. This peeing 3-4 times/night is NOT helping my sleep. I can't seem to get back down after the second or third rise.

I hear you on the exercise helping depression. I've fought depression before, too, and I always felt a lift *if* I could manage to even go for a walk. But I know that's not easy when you feel awful, and add that to nausea and other pregnancy complaints and I can see how very difficult it must be.
The acupuncture sounds great. Makes me want to try it, too!
Yay that your DD decided to sleep in her own bed! I hope you can all get some good rest.

I'm so sad about the state of my normal exercise routine!
Between being in school, work is totally insane, and watching the two year old there is suddenly ZERO time to fit in a workout. Yesterday I worked like crazy in the garden though, and this morning I'm that pleasant sort of sore.
I was thinking about joining a local gym that has childcare - anyone else do this??
VeganCupcake
02-20-2008, 12:44 PM
starparticle, this is my first babe, so I'm not the best source of information about gyms and childcare, but here's my .02.
I belong to a gym that has a childcare program, and many people are satisfied with it, but one friend of mine whose children are TV-free and who is a bit more crunchy (about like me) has decided that she won't leave her kids with them anymore. This particular gym (big franchise) plays videos constantly--that's pretty much what they do with the children in their care. This same friend was very pleased with the childcare at a YMCA in another city because the employees actually interacted with the children. I think it depends on the gym and their philosophy of childcare, as well as what would be best for your little one.
I'm not sure what I'll do once our babe makes his/her appearance. We might invest in some weightlifting equipment and a treadmill so that I have a lot of what I need here at home, or maybe we'll somehow try to work out a schedule wherein DH can parent while I go to the gym and vice versa. But that's not easy to do . . . .

my gym doesn't offer childcare...so i've seen some mamas with itty bitties just leave their baby in the car seat on the ground beside them while they use the treadmill.
(i imagine you could also sling your baby as long as you weren't running a sprint)
also, there's one amazing little boy (maybe just three ish) who is perfectly happy to sit on a bench and color while his mama trains. we all say hello and talk to him when he's there - but i imagine he's close to a perfect child :)
xochimama
02-20-2008, 05:08 PM
my gym (city rec center) doesn't have childcare-- it's really too bad. I would definitely take advantage if it were available, although I have to say, two hours of television/videos would NOT appeal to me, either.
Our rec center actually won't allow kids in the back, where the weights/cardio equipment is located. It's a liability issue, I think. So no hope of my 2 1/2 year old hanging out while I work out...
Here's another idea, and what I'm leaning towards for this babe: investing in a really good "Bob" jogger stroller. I haven't done the research myself, but I am hearing, anecdotally, that they are FABULOUS!
xochimama
02-20-2008, 05:12 PM
Ok, maybe not on the Bob. They run $350 and up...:eek

Good jogging strollers are definitely an investment, but SO worth it. I bought a Dreamer Design Ditto after my 2nd dd was born (two child stroller). It's amazing - not quite as pricey as a BOB, but still close to $500. Best money I've ever spent. Serioulsy. I was able to continue my 6 mile runs with that thing. My 6yo is too heavy now for me to actually run with her in it (without it being miserable for me), but I have another LO on the way, so it'll get a lot more use.
I chose the Dreamer Design because of the individual canopies. WIth my first jogger, my runs were always a pain because dd would constantly be fussing and complaining about the sun in her eyes. So I knew when I upgraded that that was going to be a big issue for us.
Sorry to butt in! I was active in my former life, but it's icy and cold here, the closest gym is 1/2 hr away and I've been nailed with nausea! So I don't actually belong in this thread :)

I've always been a walker... never been in good enough shape to Jog... plus it kills my knees. I have the worst knees. I've been walking lately... and yes... i breathe harder than before. Makes me wonder how much of a hike i'd be able to handle. Haven't been hiking in a while... not since months before we got pregnant. I love hiking, and before I was pregnant, I really liked to push myself and go on hikes that were harder than I was in the shape to do. I know that for sure is not going to be happening now!

I used to jog w/ DD in the jogging stroller but now I feel more comfortable doing a brisk walk. I try to do it 4 days a week for 45 mins. I feel great! I want to continue throughout the pregnancy but the FL heat & humidity may keep me indoors towards the end...we shall see!

So I went to the gym with DS last night - it was awesome!!
They are that extra large metallic gym chain, and I was very suspicious of the "kids klub". Sure enough, they have a HUGE tv in there - BUT it is enclosed in a seperate section. You can ask that your child NOT watch any TV, and they get a special "no tv" sticker. Leif totally loved it in there, although I only left him for an hour just to try it out. He played basketball and did slides, and two of the three care providers were reading to the kids both when I left and picked up. I felt good about it!
After that we went into the pool for a little swim, they have this salt water therapy pool that is awesome. Normally Leif gets chilled right away, but this one is heated and totally perfect.
We ended up spending 3 hours there, and I think we'll go again today so I can take a yoga class and then do family swim.
Plus, I weighed myself and I've gained "only" 2 pounds - I've been feeling so chunky! I thought for sure I've gained 6 or 7 (um, I'm 4'10'' thats like 15 pounds for everyone else!!). So I feel as though my fitness isn't totally off track...although I was really winded after doing just 25 minutes on the eliptical!

We did go this morning, I did a yoga class and my arms are just like dead wood right now. We couldn't swim because they were doing maintenance on the pool, but I think this arrangement is going to work out! Awesome, because Leif had been going to a toddler program nearby for most mornings when I would do my work & get in some exercise. Now he's home full time with me, and I'm suffering from lack of exercise. Plus, I get a little break while he gets some run around time. :love

psh, I wish there was a gym like that around here. I'd love to bring my children to places where the TV isn't their babysitter... or I have the option to use such a "no TV" sticker. I'm planning on raising my kids with little TV. I mean some now and then is ok... but mainly i'd like them to find other ways to be entertained. DH doesn't completely agree. He thinks it's fine to stick kids in front of the TV. He said he did nothing but watch TV growing up and he turned out fine. Hah, that's probably why he's a lazy bum and isn't very active.

I just started running again a few months ago, and am loving the natural high. I don't want to stop! Anyone else want to support the continuation of exercise?
Thanks, Cristina
I am an avid exerciser, weight training and cardio, also a former inline speed skater. I weight trained & did cardio all the way up until I gave birth to my first. I literally went into labor at the gym, my water broke there! Luckily my Ob/Gyn doc was located right down the street.
So far I have been doing the same during this pregnancy only this time it has proved more of a challenge between not having a babysitter for my son and my being so sick with nausea and being so lethargic some days. But I'm doing the best I can, I don't plan on giving up my weight training and cardio. I also inline skate at the local skating rink once a week and I don't plan on stopping that either. :D

I just started exercising again last week. I was so nauseous for a while, that the only exercise I got was going from the couch to the fridge...
I know how ya feel! I was spoiled with my first pregnancy and felt great the whole time, never missed a workout, this pregnancy however, I've missed a workout or two so far from being so nauseous that I was afraid to move! Never would I have thought that getting workouts in would prove challenging due to feeling too nauseous! I expected the fatigue but I wasn't prepared for this nausea!

I'm happy to report that I am emerging from first tri and starting to feel good again! Which means going to the gym, walking more outside... ahhhh... it feels like spring may actually come! Hi ladies! Good to see you again!
I've been struggling with my sports bras--they don't fit very well anymore, so they don't do their job! It's taken a couple of weeks to get one that works just right, but hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to do a real workout without worrying about the girls!
I've still been riding the exercise bike daily and lifting weights a few times a week, but I don't think the bike has really done that much for my fitness. It's time to get back into running (or woggling).
My half marathon is in about 5 weeks . . . . :o
Oh, and I totally love the running skirt at Fit Maternity. I think I'm going to get one. I have a couple non-maternity ones and I really like them.

I am a new runner turned eliiptical trainer junkie lately! I was logging about 12-15 miles weekly until recently. Now I do more mileage but in the comfort of the gym, not the road. I do 3-5 miles 5-6x a week and will be starting yoga 1x weekly as soon as DH gets home from Iraq next month. It is reaaly important that I keep moving while pregnant, especially this time! All the hip pain is already starting and if I miss the gym for even a day I am hurting 10 times worse. Anyhow, nice to meet you all and hope I can join in!

Uh, :hide: I didn't run it. It was Saturday. Poo, I'm mad at myself. I couldn't find anyone to go with me to fight the crowd at the start and finish, and I would have had to leave my house at 3:30 a.m. since I don't actually live in the city where it was held. Instead, DH and I tilled our front yard.
The training was spotty! I have ridden the stationary bike virtually every day though, and I have a nifty Pilates During Pregnancy DVD that I like doing. So I'm doing ok staying active in general.

:lol I'm not laughing at you--just WITH you! I think I wanted to vicariously enjoy the glory, since I knew that I sure wouldn't be havin' any myself... :lol
DH is trying to convince me to do a 25 mile bike ride next month. It's the "short" leg of the Santa Fe Century (100 mi ride--yikes!) for which he has been training.
He keeps saying, "Twenty-five miles is noooothing..." and I'm like, "Uh, yea, when you've been on your bike for a few months and you're not 25 weeks preggo."
He's kind of right-- 25m is really NOT much, but I just don't know what my body can take and frankly, all I'm doing is walking these days. I lift weights and box once/week, occasionally get a swim in, but I really fell off the wagon in the first tri and never really jumped back on...
Meanwhile, I have fantasies of running a 1/2M NEXT YEAR... and eventually training for a marathon for when I turn 40-- I'll be 38 this summer, so it's doable, babies & everything... Sheesh, I better get walking... !! :run

Hehe. Fun fun. Yeah, i've been hiking when i've found a suitable slow hiking partner. lol. Of course our mountains are still snowed in, so i've been doing low land hikes. I did one along a nice little bluff that was 3.5miles RT, and I also did a hike out along a spit and did about 4 or 4.5miles RT. Nothing major. Other than that... just going on 2 mile RT walks in the neighborhood when the weather is nice (which it hasn't been lately with the hail and snow).

xochi, thanks for the laughs with me! The really frustrating thing is that I think I could have done it as easily as I toiled in the yard--I feel like O-lan in The Good Earth, working the fields, going in for a couple of hours to give birth, then heading right back out to the field!
I really appreciate that my DH doesn't see me as in a "delicate condition"--sounds like your DH doesn't, either! I would totally do the 25 mile bike, if I had a bike that would be comfortable to ride. It's true--25 miles wouldn't even take that long--a couple of hours. Unless it's really hilly. :lol

I need some serious motivation in this area! I was so incredibly active and healthy when I got pregnant but have never jumped back into a regimen. I do so much better when I have a goal I can push myself towards - a race, better times, longer distance, etc. I know that labor is intense and we should be active for that, and I know the benefits of exercise during pregnancy for Mom and baby but it just isn't happening.
What are you all doing to stay motivated and active?

What are you all doing to stay motivated and active?
For me part of it is the goal of being in shape for an epidural free birth. So instead of a marathon or a race my goal is labor.
The other thing that has been a big motivator is just being so happy that I actually can do stuff now. I was pretty much bed ridden until about the 14 week mark because I was so sick. After that experience I'll never again take for granted being able to do the things I want to do like a normal person.

What are you all doing to stay motivated and active?
If I don't exercise, I feel physically awful, so that is motivating. Seriously, my muscles hurt if they are disused.
I'm also thinking about registering for a local 5 or 10K on the 4th of July. A short, local race--I ought to be able to do that, right?!?! Preparing for a race-like event motivates me.

What are you all doing to stay motivated and active?
I am seriously the LAST person on earth to give advice on how to stay motivated! :lol BUT, having said that... these are my tricks for actually doing something:
-- make an appointment to meet someone else & workout together
-- schedule and keep a routine (same time, same day every week)
-- mix it up: walk, swim, cycle, hike, dance— keep it interesting
-- set small goals. REALLY small goals. As in, "put your running shoes on today!" And congratulate yourself for doing just THAT. Chances are that if you put your shoes on, you will actually go out and do that 2 mile walk.
Most importantly:
-- Never criticize or get down on yourself for NOT exercising. Maybe in the last two weeks, you weren't supposed to be exercising (well, obviously you weren't supposed to since you didn't!). So just start every day fresh and be as kind and generous with yourself as you would be with your best friend or daughter or son... :love (this last one is the hardest for me...:o)

I'm having pain problems-- hoping you all might have some ideas here:
After I workout, or even after a 2 mile walk, I get a sharp pain in my butt. :lol (that sounded funny when I typed it, but it's not, I swear!) It's like a pulled muscle or something.
It first started a few months ago, towards the end of a run. Or maybe the end of a hill-climb on the treadmill??...can't remember now. Anyway, it was a very sharp, stabbing pain, on the left side in middle of my butt. It's very localized-- no pain/tingling down the leg. Just that one point.
It hasn't gone away. :( It is worse after a workout (which typically includes 2 mile walk, lunges/squats, weight lifting). It is very painful when I sit cross legged on a hard floor. Sometimes first thing in the morning.
During my usual busy day of walking & sitting & moving around, I don't notice it much.
...ideas?... :(
Can I join in? I wanted to join this thread in the very beginning but I was so sick that I didn't even bother. But now I'm feeling better and moving again! :thumb I have done yoga and walking for 7 years but suddenly, my pregnant body hates it, so I've been doing water exercise for a few weeks now (water walking and water aerobics) and I LOVE it. I don't know if I would do it when I'm not pregnant, I usually don't like the water much, but it seems like my body has some very particular ideas about what is good for baby. Anyway, being all bouyant in the water feels so good and I'm completely addicted now. Yay for not being sick anymore!! And yay for swimming!!

Xochi - I have the same thing. I had it happen before I got pregnant, and it's happened again now. Except for mine hurts even walking and moving from sitting to standing - some days it makes me limp. My trainer and husband both think it's a pulled glute muscle - that's aggravated by having pregnancy back pain. I've noticed as my belly is getting further out there - my posture is changing - which is why I think my pulled muscle isn't healing. I just try to stretch it out as much as possible and when it gets really bad, I put heat on it. Other than that, I'm just living with it - though it sucks.

Welcome LCB!
Xochi, could it be sciatica?
I have some backside troubles sometimes, too, from an old injury that I reinjured last year and has just never quite gotten to 100%. I find that it feels a lot better when I really tighten my abs (and from my recent thread here in the DDC, I may be the only person who still has any . . . :lol) and flatten out the curve in my spine somewhat. And I do some yoga-style back and hip exercises from the book Active Birth. I like 'em a lot!

05-18-2008, 11:56 PM
So I've been doing a little online reading, and I'm thinking it's one of three things:
1. sciatica
2. pulled hamstring (at origin)
3. piriformis syndrome (http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=4220&PageNum=1)
I'm inclined to think it's #3 just b/c of the symptoms, the onset, and my natural pronation. But...?...who the heck knows. I would have to see a physical therapist or sports med. therapist to get a real diagnosis...
Ugh. Bottom line is I think I have to actively do more stretching and hip/butt strengthening exercises... I just don't want to overdo it and then have it get worse, kwim...

I'm popping in here because I'm jealous :o. I love to swim and used to run but my back hates it so I only do it when the weather is agreeable (rare) and I just neeeed to be active. Lately I've taken up belly dancing but if I could swim 30 min 4 times a week I'd be stoked.
Any tips for a mama with a 2 year old to get that kind of swimming in? I take her to the pool but then I'm just spotting her the whole time, of course. I'm trying to get my DH to come along, but he's working long hours these days. We have a bike trailer and I take DD out in it now and then but I live in the city so it's a little nerve-wracking. Plus it's either way too cold or way too hot lately. I'm so annoyed with the weather! Supposedly it'll even out at the end of this week :fingersx:.
Keep up the active pregnancies, mamas! For me, it's all about being strong enough to endure whatever labor throws at me, and also about beating depression and lethargy and feeling good about myself.
I'm new here to MDC... ;)

I got to go to the gym Tuesday and get to know the machines. I did tricep, bicep, upper back, and lower back exercises, along with about 20 min stationary bike at the beginning and again at the end. I weighed myself at 134lbs, that's a 15 lb gain at 22.5 weeks, perfect. My triceps were sore for 2 days! But now I want to go again since the soreness is almost gone.
It really had an amazing effect on my mood. Wednesday I did so much housework, and wasn't wiped out at the end. My kitchen and bathroom are beautiful! I finally got that mountain of clothes folded, too. I think it's imperative to make this a regular thing.

I've been slumping a bit lately - what with the traveling and some sickness - but still going to the gym twice a week. I did have to drop my regular yoga classes though :( I was just too big - guess I need to find some prenatal ones.
I will say at my 30 week appointment, my NP was super proud of my weight gain (11.5 lbs) and spent a good three minutes telling me how much she knew all of the working out and being active would help me through the end of pregnancy and labor and recovery. She also told me I had fantastic results from my GD test and she said she knew it was due to still working out. It was the pep talk I needed, because frankly, I'm tired of going to the gym and I just really want to be a slug. But after all that inspiration, I can't sit still - lol

Three swims per week, at the minimum? whaddaya say...? :D
That would be AWESOME! I will go for my swim tomorrow morning, with new motivation!:D So excited!

I'm doing pretty well now that the morning sickness is over, and I'm not traveling. I've been able to get in the pool every day for the last couple of weeks. I only do maybe 10 laps and then some stretches, but it makes a huge difference. It's too hot to do much walking here so the pool keeps me sane. But we leave sunday to spend the rest of the pregnancy in San Francisco where I don't have such easy pool access, but it's cooler, so maybe I'll be able to walk more.

I got my swim in this morning, about 25 minutes. My knee is still killing me so I had to modify my kick to try to compensate and it slowed me down and I got out earlier than I normally would, I try to go at least half an hour.

I went to the gym instead for treadmill and weights... :o Thinking I may try to swim this afternoon with DD1, although it's not really a swim workout when I go with her.
Hey, what's up with your knee? What kind of injury do you have there? Is it all kicking that hurts? You definitely don't want to exacerbate a pre-existing injury esp. since our joints are so loose anyway, kwim?

I don't think it's so much an injury, more like my loose joints+breaststroke kicking= a lot of stress on my knees. I just HATE freestyle, always have but especially while pregnant, and prefer to do breaststroke so I am slow to give it up even though it hurts.:o

So jealous, I missed my swim this morning! I can already tell that my legs are more swollen today because I didn't get in the water! Tomorrow morning for sure!

Already had two good swims this week :D which is a good thing because I can't seem to stop eating the sweets these past few days: homemade blueberry pie, homemade coffee ice cream and dark chocolate...
what has gotten into me?...:eyesroll

I really need to get my booty in gear! If I don't swim everyday from here on out I am not going to make my 3 swims... and I was hoping for 5!

supersarah, how are you feeling? stay with it, mama! :thumb
Last week, I skipped exercise altogether because I was teaching a workshop in a nearby city all week, driving 2+ hours/day... ugh, exhausting.
I'm getting back on track this week, though...:thumb Going into my last month here and I want to keep everything moving!

Went to the gym today...dragging butt, but felt better afterwards. Sat in the therapy pool for 20 minutes and that really eased some aches and pains.
Still walking in the evenings for an hour, although I'm getting slower and slower and slower :o

Ugh, for now my workout is all cleaning and yard work! I just need one good swim to get back on track. Tomorrow is the day, I have to drop off DH at work and I will go to the pool on my way home. That's it, no exuses and you just have to really give me hell if I skip this one!:D

I got my swim this morning!!! I feel great, so glad I got in the water! I did 22 laps which is 1/2 mile in the pool I go to. Yay!

Oh man, I'm so jealous. The pool I go to only has laps from 12-1 and I missed it b/c I was working. :irked: Hrrrmph.
Maybe I can hit the gym or the other public pool before I pick up dd1...

If they didn't build in work out time to my work schedule I would never go! It's pretty much the only thing I enjoy about being in the military- my day starts at 7:00 but it is all workout/get ready for work time until 9:00!
Oh yeah, I also enjoy not having to figure out what to wear in the morning!
