View Full Version : Thinking about Maternity Clothes?

Anyone else obsessed like me?

So I got all of maternity clothes out last night. I know it is early but I can't button my jeans. Well, the heat from the attic (or is my rear just that big..hmmm), must have shrunk all of my clothes.:angry

I was planning on losing weight but never did after #3 was born. So here I am preggo with #4 and none of my maternity pants fit. Yes, I am feeling sorry for myself.

Anyway, this is probably our last baby and due to our limited income it doesn't make much sense to buy a lot of stuff.

Trying to live simply, how many pants and shorts should I own to look decent? By the way, I am a SAHM so I won't be needing a work wardrobe. And, What maternity staples do have that you can't live without?

I plan on getting a lot more staples with this pregnancy, I didn't have many with the last one but had enough stuff to make it work, well thanks to my SIL who destroyed *ahem* I mean borrowed my maternity clothes I need more stuff to wear!

I'm already wearing my one pair of maternity jeans that fit, I have another pair that are a size bigger, I may or may not get a third pair since I won't be spending much time in them with this pregnancy. I plan on getting some bra tanks since I LIVE in those during the summer preggo or not, and some maternity shorts, and a new swimsuit. THose will be my staples, and I still have all my hippie skirts and tunic-style tops that got me through the last pregnancy. I have a lot of blousy summer dresses that I can wear while pregnant too, so I'm not too concerned, I just want to be sure to have some good ol' practical stuff to wear when I don't feel like looking pretty. :wink

Right now I'm living in my yoga pants and thats my plan for as long as I can manage. I'm short 5'1.5 and pants never fit, ever.

No clue on how many pants, shorts, etc. we'll need, but I'm thinking in the heat that summer dresses might be best? Well at least for me & my short little legs :p

I'm not even sure on how many clothes this lil' sprout will need, diapes, etc. I like to live simple, too but I'm hoping to start looking for deals...

I have one pair of pants. One. Total. And really, they don't fit very well. They're too short (and I'm 5'2" for crying out loud). But I do not have the body type to pull off hip-huggers and I haven't been able to find anything else! Now I have even less motivation to look because I'm going to eventually need maternity pants instead of "normal" pants.

My one pair of pants still fits. I have a few elastic-band skirts that still fit. I've thought about maternity clothes, but I have no idea when I'm going to need them. This is all new to me!

is it crazy for me NOT to want to have to wear too many maternity clothes? I feel slightly bad for this but if I am pregnant, then the vast majority of the "bigger" months will be during summer heat, and I plan to wear loosefitting cotton shorts and men's wifebeaters, if I can... I probably will buy a pair or so of pants but... I don't want to go overboard on the maternity wear...

Maybe I'm just crazy.

I don't really give too much thought to maternity clothes. I have some long, empire waisted shirts I can wear if I need to look nice, and otherwise I'll just steall DH's tshirts, lol! I'll probably have to get new maternity pants though, since I'm starting this pregnancy about 30 pounds lighter than my first.

I haven't even thought about the clothes yet. Although it seems like I'm going to have to because, even though I'm only 4 weeks, my pants are tight. I'm prone to bloating normally, and it's twice as bad now that I'm pregnant. I look like I'm about 4 months right now! Anyone have any success with the bella band to get a little more use out of your regular pants at first?

With my last two pregnancies I did the "rubber band trick" all the way through the pregnancies. I had 3 stretchy v-neck t-shirts and 4 camis from Old Navy maternity. I wore all of my track jackets, sweaters, etc from pre-pregnancy over those.

When DH and I met (5 years ago) I was a size 14 and have slowly gone down to a 6. So I just plan to work my way back up if need be. :p We'll see though I already look 4-5 months preggo for how I do pregnancy at 5'8".

30 pounds lighter? I am so jealous. I think I know where your 30 pounds are. I found each and every one of them. Just kidding.

Thanks for the replies ladies.

Oh, I was wondering about those band thingies too.

That is an impressive weight loss!

I made some mock-up Bella Bands out of old T-shirts and they work okay. They tend to scooch up if you move around alot, so I find myself constantly tugging them down. Not sure if this is true of the real Bella Bands, but it's kind of a pain with me. It's nice to be able to wear my same pants unbuttoned with no one telling, though...esp. since my belly likes to grow a little bit as the day wears on and the pants that fit in the morning usually get unbuttoned by evening! :lol

I did have that same problem with my Bella band. I felt like I was tugging it down every three seconds so it really wasn't worth it. I gave it to a friend when she got pregnant and won't ever get another. Although I've talked to others who really liked them.

I should be pretty set for maternity clothes since my last baby was born in August, so everything should transferover nicely to this pregnancy.

I've gone through all seasons pg in one form or another, so I should be set. Some of my clothes may be on the big side as I've lost a lot of weight (size 18 to a 10/12 all from major lifestyle change and extended bf, no real dieting). I may pick up some "new" things at a second-hand store, but that's about it.

Interesting about the Bella Bands. I never bought one last pregnancy and I really needed it by the end. I wore the same skirt pretty much the entire pregnancy (knee-length jean, a-line - it's durable and cute).

In my 8th month I couldn't find ANY shirts to cover the bottom of the belly. Admittedly, I didn't visit all the plus-size stores in town, but my poor belly was hangin' out. I mostly wore tights since ds was born in Dec, they were climate appropriate.

I'm 12 lbs heavier than I started my last pregnancy and I anticipate having a hard time finding shirts again. My boobs are huge from nursing so my regular tops hardly fit anymore - I need a Bella Band, now! ;)

Well, I bought some last night. :bag:
Babystyle is having a sale and you can get an extra 30% off all outlet clothes with OUT30 at checkout.
I am a WOHM and in management, so I am expected to look polished every day. It's a little hard since I am so tired and sick right now, though. I've been wearing bigger clothes and throwing a jacket over top to hide my bloat. But being my 3rd pregnancy, I have a feeling I'll pop a little sooner than I'd like.
I do pretty good with sales and outlet shopping, but unfortunately professional maternity clothes are not cheap, so this sale couldn't be passed up. Or at least that's what I'll tell DH when they arrive!! :p

I have maternity clothes but mostly all for winter b/c my DS was born in Jan, so I will need to get shorts (how do you shave your legs while pregnant???) and a swim suit I guess. :)
