I see home birth in some of your signatures so I thought I would take this opportunity to ask about this. I've had 3 sections NONE were by my choice.

My first was at 35.4 weeks and it was very much an emergency though we were planning a birth center birth from the very beginning. Things took an interesting spin when my water broke at home and on the way to the hospital I felt something (my first baby, I had no clue) when we got to the hospital I was told I had a cord prolapse, the rest was a huge mad rush to the OR with a doctors hand shoved up inside me and obviously the calm, serene birth center birth that I had pictured since the day we got the BFP went out the window. I was upset at the loss of that, but happy my baby made it into the world with only minor issues (transient tachypnea and 10 days in the NICU)

Baby #2 was frank breech and my doctor half attempted a version but then thought better of it and that was that and section # 2 it was.

Baby # 3 I had a hard time even finding a doctor when I mentioned wanting a VBAC. NOBODY would hear of it. I even tried some birth centers and they consider me high risk because I had 2 previous c-sections which makes no sense to me (maybe someone can explain?)

Anyway I cut my losses and section # 3 it was.

I would LOVE to have a VBAC since this IS my last baby but I do live in Florida and I know things are a litle wacky here with doctors and vbacs. I also have very big babies, my last baby was 9lbs 7 oz.
So, what would be my best option? Are there birth centers out there that will deliver someone that has had previous sections? I am not sure I have the cajones to deliver at home but if it is my only chance to have a VBAC I may consider it.

I am tired of not being able to hold my babies for 2-3 hours after they are born and not being able to feel my body for hours and hours.

Have you looked into your local ICAN chapter? Those ladies might have some information.

ditto on ICAN - their support was critical for my VBAC. I'd post your question to the national list and you will get lots of support + ideas.

I've heard about how bizarre Florida is :soapbox

Anyways, one thing to think about (not to jump to this conclusion - because I think that a VBAC would be wonderful for you, and you should at least have the option!!) is the things about your past C/S that upset you and working to get around those things. For one, you should be able to hold your baby right away! You can also have a doula with you at the birth (in addition to your DH), etc etc.

Good luck finding out more!

:yeah:

The national ICAN list is at Yahoo Groups. The ladies on the list are THE best. I believe one of the most active posters is from Florida (Shannon?), but I can't remember. They will know what to do, who to contact, etc.
