We're trying to figure out our bed arrangements for after the baby is born. Eloïse has just in the last month started sleeping through the night most nights, so night nursing is now down to bed time and wake-up time and then sometimes one other time. Yay! Anyway, I'm thinking that putting a toddler bed right next to my side of our bed is probably the way to go. Then the new baby can be in the middle of the big bed and we put Eloïse on the first step to one day moving into her own bed in her own room.
All that said, I don't want her sleeping on a chemical-filled mattress. IKEA has some perfect little toddler beds (and cheap enough to make it easy to try this), but I imagine that the mattresses are probably pretty poor. I'd like to get one of those little bed frames and then a nice organic mattress to fit it. Anyone know where to get such a thing in this country, or in a way that doesn't mean that shipping will cost a fortune and customs will double the price?

You can try this place...they look like they have mattresses. You can check the sizes available.

Hi,
I ordered an organic one for our co-sleeper from Zaailing - it was 89 euros and made to order... not too bad I thought! Of course the co-sleeper is something like 50 by 80cm so it's not big either. I know they do bigger mattresses too.
Here's the link in case you're interested: www.zaailing.nl

That's a good idea. You know, I've been kind of overlooking the idea of a co-sleeper. The ones I've seen have been kind of saggy. Is that problem averted by putting in a better mattress? I just feel like the natural order of things would dictate that the older child be the one to move a bit out and the younger would stay in. Also, by doing it that way, we could try it now so as to avoid such a strong connection with the baby. I will look into the price of a mattress for a toddler bed from that shop. I've never been in there, but have noticed it many times.
Where did you get your co-sleeper?

We ordered our co-sleeper from Arm's Reach and then arranged to have it shipped over here. SUPER EXPENSIVE!!! I do not recommend it at all. They have two that fit European bed heights, the Sleigh and the Universal. When I was looking into it the Universal looked flimsy and kinda cheap. So we went with the Sleigh Co-sleeper. Well I've put in an organic mattress and rigged it so there isn't such a deep ledge but it still doesn't lay flush with our mattress. I still have to reach into it to get Aidan. To be honest Aidan usually sleeps in the middle between us most of the night. So if I had to do it again I would just not buy a cosleeper, maybe invest in a larger bed.
My sister did what you are thinking of doing, she has a 3 year old and a 6 month old. She moved the 3 year old to his own bed that was attached to their bed so he was still laying next to them. They had to put some blocks under the bed to make it flush but now their room is mostly just bed! They did this a few months before the baby was born so he wouldn't associate it with the baby coming. They bought one of those leaf canopies from Ikea and he just thought it was the bomb, he was super happy with 'his' bed!
Anyway if you are still interested in a co-sleeper I heard that Prenatal had some. I have never seen any in there but I haven't looked either. I haven't been to the one in Arena that is really big so maybe out there?
Sorry for the long post, I tend to ramble on and on!
