View Full Version : So confused about this...

So, I'm confused.

If today my ticker says I'm 4 weeks pregnant, am I just starting the 4th week or am I finishing it? What confuses me is if tomorrow I'm 4 weeks and 1 day, aren't I just starting the 5th week?

I'm so lost. Could be the stupidity already kicking in but I just want to know how and what my nugget is doing. :eyesroll

I have wondered this same thing many times. I always say I am 4 weeks until I am 5 weeks, but I think books go either way. Today I am exactly 4 complete weeks (2 weeks gestational), tomorrow I will start my 5th week, but am still only 4 weeks along...at least that's how I look at it. :)

Okay, edited this cause I went back and looked at the post where you said your EDD. Since your EDD is on a Friday, you change weeks on Friday. You are 4 weeks beginning today, you'll be 5 weeks beginning next Friday, etc.

Aha - okay, thanks guys. Even if it doesn't completely make sense, LOL! I just want to know the general rule of thumb for these things.

Dreams - you are so smart. That should have been the first thing I checked! LOL!

So the way I'm going to look at it is I can't claim the 5 weeks until the whole 4th week is complete. Does that make sense?

That stuff always confuses me too. I personally look at it as I am 4 wks when I've finished my 4th week. During my 4th week, I would technically be 3wks + however many days into the 4th week. Clear as mud?

I tried to explain it as simply as I could but I'm typing with the wrong hand, one handed, while nursing a baby who is doing boob gymnastics. :lol

That makes no sense to me. :dizzy:

I am convinced some man created "pregnancy math" It doesn't make sense at all. From what I understand they count the 2 or so weeks prior to ovualtion/conception in the 42 weeks. Am I right??? I just go with it and it seems to always work out ok...:wink And I think you are right, you are say, 4 weeks + how many days in the following week...

Right. Like right now I am 3 weeks 4 days pregnant. I will turn 4 weeks pregnant on Monday. Even though conception only occurred 1 week and 4 days ago.

Yes, because you say that you are 25 years old for the whole year that you are 25 (even though, technically, you are in your 26th year.) BUt you are only 25 full years old.

Nope. Not where I am from.

Since most cycles are 28 days (4 weeks) ...day 1 of what would be your period, but was not, = that you are now 4 weeks pregnant.

Yes conception occurs at about 14 days or 2 weeks, so yes you are only actually *pregnant* for two week, but the 40 weeks is counted from day 1 of your cycle.

That is why health care providers will always ask, "When was the first day of your last period?" So they can chart you accordingly.

Sidenote: I once got a pregnancy journal as a gift that had the weeks labelled incorrectly, it said the day of conception = week 1 and the "due date" = week 42. Maybe that's how they do it in Britain or something?

That's how it is done, so that everyone does it the same way.

That's an excellent analogy! Going to have to remember that one. I was trying to explain it like that above, but your way is easier to understand.:thumb

See, I get it when you say it that way!! But, when I turned 26 years old, the week after that, was I 26 and 1 week? So technically I was 1 week into my 27th year?

My head hurts now.

i just went through banging my head against the wall and determined by date of conception as either jan. 8 or jan. 11. Ovusoft has 2 options..one for date of conception and one date of LMP. if i were to use LMP date, it would up my EDD by 2 weeks..thats just crazy to me. i am either 2 weeks and 4 days (today) or 2 weeks and 1 day (today)....putting me at 4 weeks and 2 days right now would put me in an even higher risk category than i am in right now at delivery since it would add almost 2 1/2 weeks to my pregnancy.i think this is why so many women get induced for being "late".

If your conception date was January 8th, your EDD would be September 30th, and you would be 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant, but only 2 weeks and 4 days past conception.

If your conception date was January 11th, your EDD would be October 3rd and you would be 4 weeks and 1 day pregnant but only 2 weeks and 1 day past conception.

i am sorry i REFUSE to say i am any days more pregnant than days since conception. i can NOT be weeks MORE pregnant than when the spermie and egg met. :)

im saying this all w/ a smile and i know you didnt make that up but that is just warped logic!

I get ya! I know it's dumb, but that's just the normal way dates are calculated. Based on my LMP my EDD would be late August but I was charting and I didn't O until CD 55, so an EDD based on LMP would be wayyyyy off.

well my LMP was 12/24 so that is way off.

if anyone asks from now on, i am due b/w sept. 20 and oct. 10. :) i will NOT be more specific than that!

I figure the baby will come when it's ready...and that's that. Since I'm seeing a midwife, there will be no pressure to induce, so what difference does it make when I'm "due?" :eyesroll

Mainly I'm just interested to know because I have this book that tells you what goes on week to week - and I wanted to know, am I in the 4th week or the 5th week right now? Now that I know, I feel better about it for some reason. It's much less about when I'm "due" and more about what's going on inside me right now!
