View Full Version : so were you trying or was it a suprise?

We had just stopped TTA. The first freaking month and we got pregnant. I am still dumbfounded at how quickly it happened for us. I spent 10 years trying to get pregnant before my ds. I had to have surgery in order to get pregnant with him. I guess the surgery fixed everything!
So, it was planned, but suprising how quickly it happened!

We were trying but it was still a bit of a surprise. Our timing was way off this month but I must have ovulated late. It's funny, this was our last month of trying until June to avoid giving birth in the winter. DS was also conceived during our last month of trying.

We were trying and we just KNEW we had good timing this month. We DTD 2 days before O, I swear if my husband even looks at me when I'm ovulating I get pregnant. :lol

This was our first cycle TTC and we got it on the first try! So, we weren't completely suprised, but we were definitely shocked that it happened so easily and so quickly!
I had been charting since last April so I knew my body inside out. We decided to TTC for a girl, and got our timing *almost* right. My OPK lied, so long story short, we DTD only 1 day before O and BAM - BFP! We're still crossing our fingers for a girl, but a boy will be just as sweet!
I think DH thought it would take longer - he wasn't fully prepared for it to happen so quickly. I think part of me knew that it worked and then the BFP was just a confirmation of what I already knew! Strange how that happens...

Me too. Except my DH was not surprised because he already knew as well. In fact, so did my sister, who called me at 7DPO and said she woke up that morning and just knew I was pregnant.

I got pregnant our 2nd cycle trying. Like many of you, that's shocking to me because it took a loooong time and fertility drugs in the past. Yay!
We also were planning to break until summer to avoid having another winter baby. We have Nov and Dec right now and that's enough mixed with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
I'm due within a few days of my grandpas birthday so that would be ok.
So yes, both. Trying but shocked that it came so easily.
Yes. :p
We figured it would take three-six months, so we just stopped trying to avoid this month, and only had one really good shot due to teething and stuff with DH's work. What a pleasant surprise!
I actually feel a little bit guilty with how easy both conceptions have been. :(

Well, count me in the camp of not trying to avoid but surprised it happened so quickly. I'm almost certain my fertility had just returned this month, and though we weren't avoiding pregnancy we were both a little surprised it happened so quickly. I was getting the urge for another baby but thought it might take a few more months at least. I had a 4yr gap of infertility between our 2nd and 3rd, and I typically only ovulate about 4 times a year.

Well, I have been trying like crazy since July 1st. This was my 8th cycle. We were also going to take a break until July after this cycle. My other 2 took 4 and 1 cycles respectively.
But as I was constantly reminded by my RE, I am "so old" now!

We had been trying for 12 cycles, charting, temping and OPK's. We took the Fertell tests 3 months ago, and husbands test came back abnormal. I was devastated! We decided to keep trying and if it didn't happen cycle 12, we were going to see a specialist. I'm so happy we didn't need to!!

We were trying for about two months. My son was a complete surprised (we had just started dating and used protection)! After that, we've always planned for three. I'm as excited with this one as I was from the first pregnancy. It is my fourth counting the m/c.

We got the IUD out in December and I think I had a chemical pregnancy right away (we had sex the day before I got it out and it was around mid-cycle). So technically I got pregnant before my first full cycle. But this pregnancy happened our first full cycle. I really expected it to take a while like the rest of you because this was my first "planned" pregnancy. :o My others were all pleasantly-welcomed oops babies. :love
So oddly enough (with all the kids we already have) :), we were planning this one (for once!)

A total surprise. Dh was totally happy with 3 and honestly so was I but there was times that I wanted just one more but I've gone back to school during the evenings and I also have ulcerative colitis (Inflammator Bowel Disease) which at times gets the best of me so I decided that it would be best to stick with my 3 beautiful boys....but I guess someone else had others plans ....lol I just hope My ulcerative Colitis doesn't get too bad....Praying for a healthy and sane pregnancy! :-)

We were supposed to be TTA! However, we got a little carried away during my fertile time. I conceived DS on the first cycle TTC. This was the first time sperm has had any access during my fertile time since then (over four years ago!) and sure enough.... :lol

Add me to the "trying but suprised it happened so quick" tally. Second month off pills, first month to really chart. The best and funniest thing about it is that we so totally would have missed it had it been up to me, the one who was charting and paying attention. On the first (and only!) day I had fertile fluid I was so busy trying to figure out the best timing that I didn't even think to seduce the husbandperson. Luckily, he decided he was in the mood all on his own. Good thing too - that was the day I ovulated!

This kiddo is a half surprise. I had a temp shift three days before dh came home from a business trip...needless to say it wasn't my real thermal shift:innocent. Anyway, by the time I realized what happened the deal was already signed and sealed.
That said, it will come as a complete surprise to my DH (who is due to find out about the new addition as soon as he gets home). At first he will be shell-shocked but then he'll be stoked.

Not quite a surprise, but definitely not trying! When my dh drove to the health food store and asked me to pick up some folic acid, I knew he wasn't averse to the idea. But, we did talk about him getting snipped the day before... So, not planned at all.

We were kinda trying. We have four, and I wanted another, but DH was on the fence a bit. So, once dd2 turned two (in Jan), I said, "let's try for another, but if it doesn't happen by my birthday (in August), then we'll be done with four." So, we dtd right after that conversation! But I thought I had ovulated already, so wasn't expecting to really get pg. AF was late, so I told him and he was kinda shocked it happened so fast, but we're both excited!
My first dd was an oopsie, so a surprise. DS1 happened on the first try (planned), with ds2, it took 7 months, with charting (the only time I charted and it took the longest). DD2, first try, this last babe, first try (the last four were all planned).

We'd been trying on and off for almost a year (with 2 m/c in there as well). Frankly, I was surprised it happened this time because we had a rather. . . um. . . sparse month, if you know what I mean. There were several factors that culminated in both of us just being too tired a lot of the time.

I had always gotten pregnant the 1st or 2nd cycle I tried the first 5 times. After my m/c 3 yrs ago we did some fertility stuff but nothing worked. We were content and happy with 3 fine smart handsome boys ... So imagine our suprise 2 full yrs w/ no fertilty / charting or caring to have our little suprise.
This is our secret fertility method....About 2 months ago while teaching Nathan to pray I told him he could ask God for something he really wanted. He said he wanted a baby sister ( like his little friend) I explained we wouldnt be having anymore babies cause mommy is 40 and we tried to have more babies but that didnt happen. He didnt care and every day he asks God for a baby sister or a brother with out a penis ( we dont know where that came from but thats our Nathan ) On morning he even got up and when to our spare room to check to see if his baby sister had gotten there yet the same day he went to my car to check to see if she was in there. It got really weird for a while because he would talk about his baby sister like she was real.
So here we are a few months later and Nathan is dutifully praying every day for a baby sister. I to had prayed but after 3 yrs figured God answered me with no which is ok since I have 3 wonderful boys. I get ocular migraines with hormonal shifts and when I got one driving home from Nathans preschool then looked at the calendar and it dawned on me that I was due but hadnt had any pre spotting I took a test... then another ... then another ... then called my ob for a hcg... here we are at 6 weeks and a couple days.
This baby is from the power of a little boys prayers :love

This one is a welcome surprise. The first 2 were planned, though. We talked about TTC later this year, so a little sooner than planned, but we are all very happy.
We told our children at dinner last night. My 4 yo son said he will nurse this baby for me so 2yo L~ doesn't have to stop. :love Didn't know just what to say about that. Just a "Thank you, you are going to be such a big help" kind of thing while I tried not to shed a tear!
We have already agreed on names, my son wants a boy, daughter wants a girl, the usual.
Anyway, a very fun and exciting time for our family!
we don't use any form of BC, so when it happens, it happens.:love

We've been trying to start a family in general for over a year; each of the miscarriages was a planned pregnancy. But we'd only been 'trying again' for two cycles, and this cycle was so strange and "off" that I was sure that it hadn't happened. :eyesroll It would seem that the DH and I have no problems getting pregnant; the first happened after 4 cycles but two of those we weren't trying very hard (just not using any BC), the second happened on the first try, and this one on the second.
I guess it remains to be seen whether we actually have fertility problems when it comes to staying pregnant-- you know what they say, one occurence is an anomaly, two is a coincidence, three is a pattern. If this little bean is sticky then we can write the others off as a coincidence, but if we lose this one we have a pattern. Patterns are bad.
Well, I'm rambling again. Short answer: yes, we were trying.

we weren't really trying but it wasn't a surprise either...We never DTD without a condom cuz when we do I get pregnant...this is my fourth pregancy(1st ended in m/c) and everyone one of them was a hey honey kinda thing. So when I figured we were far enough away from ovulation that is should be safe we DTD without a condom (we weren't trying per se but we wouldn't be dissapointed if we got pregnant) and voila those spermies lasted a long time cuz I ovulated even later in my cycle then expected.
It's great though cuz I wanted an october baby.

Sweet! Sounds like us... We have never TTA, and so far have a 3 /12 year old, and a 2 year old. Oh, and we've been married 5 1/2 years. I was starting to wonder if there'd be anymore, when out of the blue one day, my 3 year old said, "Mommy, I prayed that Jesus would put a baby girl in your tummy." I was surprised, since we hadn't even been talking about babies! Well, now we're due to have one sometime late Oct, or early Nov. When we told the boys about the baby, my 3 year old thanked Jesus for answering his prayer. :)

This baby was totally planned! I love reading in this thread because I can hear the excitement :D DP and I decided months ago to have a baby but initially we planned on waiting until May 08 b/c we would be done with our huge move and settled in a few months, we'd be married, the older kids settled, etc.
Then in Dec I started feeling really pg and wondering, but we knew it was a total longshot since DP was already up here working and the last time we'd DTD was during my period. But I felt totally pg. And my period was 3 days late. I'd felt pg and not been pg 2x befor though so... Anyways, AF finally showed up the day after Christmas. I was so very sad. And I told DP I didn't really want to wait until May anymore. And he told me he didn't want to wait either, and that he'd just been going with May since that's what I decided was sensible!
So we decided to try in Feb, which would be my first cycle after our big move. Well we drove up here while my AF was visiting (1000 miles with AF... joy). Then proceeded to sit around and wait on our moving truck to get here and my O day.
They arrived the same day hah! So we unloaded the entire moving truck (with help from friends thankfully) and at the end of the day put the kids to bed and dragged ourselves to bed to BD. And apparently that one shot we got amidst all the cleaning, house prep, unpacking the moving truck, etc. did it b/c 10DPO I got my BFP!!!
I was so very, very excited. I didn't belive it at first and racked up 5 BFPs and kept temping until I got my 18 high temps :D DP is so excited too, he keeps telling random people at work that he's gonna be a daddy :D This will be his first baby and he's ecstatic. This is my first planned baby and that was so very much fun. I enjoyed having the months to work on my nutrition, and I charted for many cycles before our TTC cycle. And I'm so very thrilled to be here. I feel so blessed :D

We were trying so hard! We stopped using BC back in October but didn't REALLY start trying until December. I used an OPK in December and thought for sure we would have a BFP in January. It didn't happen then, and we were so disappointed. We'd been TTC for ten cycles, but this still managed to be a surprise. Everything was exactly the same as every other cycle--same PMS symptoms, skin breaking out, cramps, spotting, everything. I was absolutely certain that AF was coming, but then I checked the calendar and realised I was actually a day late (I'm NEVER a day late!) and tested and it was positive.
We were so sure that something was wrong that I actually had a referral appointment with an RE scheduled for May, which I haven't cancelled yet, since I'm feeling superstitious. I think 5 weeks is too early to cancel it, because there's still so much uncertainty at 5 weeks. Anything could happen.
Anyway, we were TTC, but I was still completely caught off guard by the BFP.

We were not not trying. I sort of hoped we would have a bit more time so that I could get my body back just a little more since DD was born 12/06 and things are still a bit squishy and saggy. Oh well. A baby is better than the body! There's always time for that later. We are very excited!

We were very much trying - I m/c'd in December, let one cycle pass, and then we were ready to go. I'll be setting up my first appt with our midwife this week to check everything out. Since the m/c, she wants to be extra cautious during the first trimester. I'm okay with that.

Happy surprise! :) We have 3 kidlets, ages 7,6, and 3 1/2. I was happy with our family dynamic but after #3, DH and I both weren't settled on making any permanent decisions on birth control. So for the past 3 1/2 years we have used nfp to ~not~ get pg. But I guess this month, our timing was off. We were definitely trying. I had a miscarriage in November, and I really didn't want to wait around with an empty womb, it was making me sad. I got pregnant on my second normal cycle after the mc. Thank goodness, too, since all my friends seem to have newborns or huge pregnant bellies, and it was making me insane to be around them.

We were TTC. I went off BC in May 07, and we planned on starting to try mid to end of summer. Well, I didn't get a period until August- and that was progesteron induced. After that I had very random cycles- 24 day (annovulatory); 37 days; 35 days and then a 63 day annovulatory.
So this cycle I decided to use preseed and just hope that I O'd. Shortly after my temps confirmed O Dh said he wanted to pray- put his hand on my belly and prayed for our LO. That was @ 5 DPO and the next day I had my implantation dip. He was so incredibly positive the WHOLE cycle. He just knew it was going to be our time, even the times that I struggled to be upbeat... he just knew.
So here we are with the Squint @ 5 wks 1 day! :love
