In my last pregnancy I avoided tomatoes and I waited until food was digested before lying down. Still got it sometimes though!

I second the papaya enzymes. Any health food/whole foods type store should have them.

Thanks Ladies! I'm going to get some papaya enzymes tomorrow!
apples are also great to help with heart burn.
I found that milk also helped when my heart burn was still mild.
Activated charcoal helps too, but it takes a little time to work, it can also be found near the papaya enzymes.
There is a yoga pose that can help, I can't even begin to explain it though, I'm a yoga dolt, can someone else explain it?
Eating small meals several times, not lying down after eating, only lying on your left (it put the top of your stomach up so it's not draining into your esophagus like when you're on your right.
All of these worked until I was in my 3rd tri which is when it got so bad nothing helped. Then I had to resort to medical stuff, but it's better than the acid eating away at your esophagus causing scarring which will make you have heart burn for a long long time.
Apples worked the best for me, and they're yummy!

Elevating the head of the bed six inches was a big help here. There are accupressure points too you could learn.

Papaya enzymes worked for me when my reflux was still mild. After those stopped working, I moved on to Slippery Elm lozenges and those are even better. So far this pregnancy I have not needed anything else, but last time I had to do an OTC acid reducer in the 3rd tri. :(

HEARTBURN SUCKS!! Anyhow...I usually get it when I miss a meal or a snack, so eating during those times help. When I got actual heartburn, I would drink a cup of soymilk and wait it out. That helped me. I guess you are not supposed to lie down after you eat, but sometimes I am so bloated that I have too (don't think that personally made heartburn worse for me). Also...eating pretzels seemed to help.

yep, they worked wonders for me during this past pregnancy.
also, think about alkalizing your diet to avoid needing a remedy.

1) Get enough sleep (being overtired has ALWAYS been a heartburn trigger for me).
2) Watch carbs... for some reason, when I'm pregnant, sweets and refined carbs are major heartburn triggers, but this seems to be weird and unusual about me. Still, it's worth noting that there can be weird reactions *your* body has, and don't discount it.
3) When it gets bad, slippery elm lozenges as someone else mentioned. The maple flavor is MUCH better than the cherry (they carry the Thayer's brand at Whole Foods).

I had bad reflux before pg so trying to navigate it without meds and with pg I've found that sometimes (when it gets unbearable) if I chew gum that helps a super whole lot.
Something about the excess saliva breaking down stomach acid....of course I don't recommend the gum method if you are prone to jaw issues...

Calcium-magnesium CAPSULES (NOT tablets!!) have been a God-send for me my last two pregnancies.

My doc recommended warm milk and honey (I had also tried papaya enzymes and they worked ok) but the milk and honey worked wonders for me!

Strong ginger tea and multi-enzyme capsules (with papaya!) at every meal.
I also try not to eat too late. Sweets are a major trigger for me too.

I found that paying attention to which foods caused mine helped. For some reason green peppers just kill me.
I've tried the papaya enzyme tablets, I think they helped some. I was also told that raw (not canned) pineapple had the same enzyme in it, but I haven't tried it.
