I was speaking with another mother today and had the overwhelming urge to ask her if her daughter was in Montessori. It turns out that she is. :)

There was just "something" about them. Do you think it is common for this to happen? Has it happened to you?

I can't tell just out in public typically but I definitely can tell by talking about children with others - and especially in visiting their homes. :)

Not really, but...

I had a student in my high school classroom. SO smart and so self-directed. I had her quit doing the busy work the other kids had to do and do independent projects and so she would sit in my classroom and pull out whatever book she was reading. Sometimes it was work for a class, sometimes a novel. Meanwhile, she was doing college level reading for me. (The stupid school wouldn't move her out of the lowest level which is what that class was. Honors was "full".) She also worked well with others, even non-gifted kids, and made them feel like they had value to contribute to group projects.

I found out about a month ago (we're still in touch) that she went to Montessori through grade 6. I wasn't surprised and told her so.

Yes, especially when eavesdropping. Saying something is or is not "available" is always the tip off.
