I have been looking on ebay and have fallen in LOVE with the cute designer bags...and thought I might be able to make my own...like this one for example...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2343378439&category=15558&sspagename=rvi:1:1

Does anybody know of any good suggestions on how I could get started?

Thanks,
Caring Touch

Actually just today I was looking through a McCall's and Simplicity pattern catalog and they both had some cute bag patterns. I'm sure you could find a pattern that you'd like in one of those catalogs.

Hi,

That is a beautiful diaper bag. I have been making some bags with the McCall's 752 pattern. I think if you enlarged that bag and added some dividers/pockets, you would have a great diaper bag. One of my goals for the winter is to design a diaper bag. I will do that right after I make a full set of diapers for my SIL, learn how to make a wool diaper cover, make sheers for my house, slipcover my dining room chairs............

I think my cherished diaper bag is ruined to I have been looking for alternatives. I couldn't find any patterns and am not a good enough with sewing to adapt a pattern. So I started doing yahoo searches for diaper bags, custom made diaper bags, wahm diaper bags - anything I could think of. I found two (off the top of my head) that I thought were nice. Whimsical Wears is one and Josey's Cottage is the other. I keep looking at JC because her prices are incredibly reasonable and it sounds like she'll design the bag with your needs in mind. If I can't replace my bag, I'm thinking I'm going to get in touch with JC.

Simplicity 9963 has what you're looking for I think. http://simplicity.com/s3index.htm there are several different designs in that pattern.
