So where is everyone planning to give birth?

We're planning our first homebirth :love

I'm so happy you put an "other" category.

I don't know yet. We are moving across the country mid way through this pregnancy. I'm hoping for a VBAC and to use a birthing center. I just don't don't know what will happen though.

I'm envious of your planned homebirth!!!

Unfortunately, I'm planning a repeat c/s at a hospital :(

I am stuck beteween midwife assisted HB and UC. I love the idea of an UC but in my heart I know I need the (emotional) support for a midwife.

I put other.

I'm hoping for a HBAC with a midwife, but am not sure the midwife will take me as a patient. If not, I'll have a hospital vbac.

Homebirth for me! Now I just have to find a mw! The state of HB MW in IL is awful!

At this point we'll deliver with a midwife in our hospital's birth center. I'd love to go with our local FSBC, but I'm not up to arguing with insurance right now.

I put Other because I don't know yet! It will probably either be hospital or unassisted.

Right now the plan is with a family practice Dr in the hospital. I also have the option of a midwife in the hospital. My insurance will not cover a homebirth.

This will be our 3rd homebirth. #1 was m/w assisted. #2 was "accidentally" unassisted (I was fantasizing about UC but planned to have a m/w, who ended up missing it because it was so fast... so...)

I'm planning another assisted HB but with someone very, very hands-off because I looooooved the privacy of my UC.

We're planning on a birth center. DD was born in a hospital and although the experience wasn't terrible, I've always wanted to have my babies with the aid of a midwife instead of a doctor.

Okay, who are the other UCers? :)

I known since ds was about four or five months old that we would do a UC the next time, so I've had lots of time to gather my resources and 'prepare' and stuff. Now we're just excited. (No driving to appointments, either!)

We considered home birth with DD#2 because I had a horrific hospital experience with DD#1, but we had trouble finding anyone in our area who would do home birth and we weren't comfortable doing it on our own. So we went with a free standing midwifery and it was AMAZING. We are totally going back there this time.

:wave Hi there!! I will be having a UP/UC this go around! Nice to see other UC'ers around here!
This is my second baby; my dd was born in the hospital attended by a midwife (medwife..). I'm SO ready for this!! Can you tell I'm a bit excited!

Well, looks like there are no HB mw's that will come out my way :( I will probably have a hospital birth with a MW. I would do a FSBC, but the nearest one is over an hour drive:(

Are you not comfortable with that long of a drive? For us, our hospital was 40 minutes away and even with a 6 hour labor we got there in plenty of time.

My dd hates that car, and anything over 45 minutes is torture in her mind. I have an option that 1.5 hours away, but that's too far :(

Also, there is no way in he!! that I'm comfortable with a man at my birth, so that rules out a practice called Homefirst.

Financially, we don't have the money to shell out for a DEM, so that's out of the question. Also the two that I have found do not do stitches.

I did have one that would take me, but decided she's once again moving, and can't:eyesroll.

I would have NO problem with a 40 minute drive. If I end up having a CNM at a hospital, the hospital is only 15 minutes away.

I *thought* there was a FSBC in Oakpark, but its a hospital birth center.

That was my problem last time. No midwives in the area do homebirth, so we went with the freestanding midwifery in our area. It's just across the river from us, so we can do alot of the labor at home and still make it there on time (I hope- my first two are fast, I have a feeling this one will shoot out). I was disappointed at first that we couldn't have her at home, but I had a wonderful experience at the midwife center and there's no question that it'll be there this time too. Hope that's encouraging for you! I know it's disappointing when you're looking forward to a homebirth and it doesn't pan out.

I am totally disappointed, but still have a little of hope since it's still so early. Maybe some new CNM's will come out the woodwork~ ya never know. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!!

ETA: I have an awesome hb CNM, so I'm totally having a homebirth! I"M SO HAPPY!

We are planning for a homebirth, depending on if we can get a midwife who is covered by our insurance (I'm so happy our insurance actually covers homebirths!), if not we might use a free-standing birth center, though that's not covered by our insurance, so depends on the cost. But planning homebirth.

We are currently other too!

The last two were hospital births, last one MW and Doula assisted. I was hoping the third one would be a homebirth but I don't know if that is in the cards right now and the closet birthing center that is covered by our insurance in DELAWARE!!!!! An hour + drive. sigh

We are planning a hospital birth center birth. I'm really disappointed about it, but I can't afford a home birth and we live with my mom and she would flip out. There are no FSBCs within about 6 hours of where we live, so we'll have to drive a little over an hour to a hospital that has a birth center.

We're going to shoot for a homebirth!

We planned a homebirth with DD but transported due to major meconium staining (short cord & nuchal loop). She got the help she needed and is doing great!

So say a few homebirth prayers for us!

I'm not sure yet ~ I am really attracted to our local birth center. It's an old house with beautiful calm energy, a huge jacuzzi tub, and wonderful lay midwives. I am interested in a homebirth, but I think I might be more comfortable at the birth center. My midwife is great - she said I don't have to choose until I'm in labor! If I want to stay home she'll come there, or I can come to the birth center.
I guess I'll wait and see...

That's why I'm doing the FSbc too. I'll still be able to go home within a few hours of baby being born and the place has a great vibe. It's an old house not too far from us. DD#2 was born there and it was fantastic!

Hospital but with a midwife. MWs around here do not do home births if you are going for a VBAC. I'm OK with that.

We don't get much of a choice. My husband is active duty stationed over seas so we have to do a hospital birth. They will send you home and have your spouse finish their tour over here (which for us would be another 2 years) if you give birth at your residence. If you want so spend extra you can choose to use a hospital out in town but I have heard worse stories about them then the military hospitals so we will be having ours at the Navel hospital.

I voted other, I have been high risk in every pregnancy so I may have to have another hospital birth, im really hoping for a free standing birth center though, I should know after 4/8 when I meet with the local obgyn, if they give me the go ahead I will be having an appt at the mwc on 4/11.. I really hope to have a water birth (unassisted but with mw present if we need help)

it is between a FSBC or a homebith. I am a VBAC this time around and depends on how much hell the back up OB will give me because I had a partial placenta abruption.

I had to vote hospital birthing center, as much as I would love to have a home birth, they not only don't do them around here, but no midwife would take me on, I have never had a preg. go past 37 weeks, every preg as pretty much ended earlier than the last, I have had two had to be in the NICU,and I spent the last 3 1/2 months of the preg with my youngest in bed and on meds for pre-term labor. I can only insist on having my own way as much as the hospital will allow.

I want a home birth so bad but, there are no midwives (that I know of) that will come to me. There are very few midwives in the province. I cried when I found that out. I'm seeing a family practitioner, not an ob, and will probably end up at the local hospital but, I am starting to flirt with UC. Apparantly, if I go to the hospital and my labour slows, I can't go home to wait for it to pick up again so my plan is to just leave going to the hospital until the last minute.

I am a bit sad, as I will not be having a home birth. I found out that when I get my 20 week u/s to detect if I have placenta accreta, increta or percreta, that accreta may or may not show up, but the other 2 will. I have more than a 50% chance of it happening again. I thought about birthing at home then transferring and I just don't want to do that. After much reflection of Anna's afterbirth, the pain, the blood loss, I want to be in a hospital in case I do have accreta and can go right into surgery. This is not the hospital I gave birth to dd in. It is much bigger and you don't do everything in one room. L&d in one room, pp in another and possibly sharing a room. YUCK! I am a little stressed about it. But, for my safety and my baby's, I think this is the right thing to do. My only solace is the dr's and nurses are really good.

Ya know, you don't have to clean up the mess with a home birth either. :) The midwives typically take care of all of that. My midwives helped me into the shower, emptied the birth tub, started the laundry, cleaned the floor, and made me something to eat. It was fantastic! :thumb

Well, I've changed my mind and decided on a homebirth! We're so excited and comfortable with the idea now. The birth center is pretty much like being at home, and it's only 5 min. from our house, so we decided why pack up just to go somewhere exactly like our house? :love I'm so happy about it, and I love that my husband is completely in agreement about it.:homebirth

so true. we are having a home birth and the midwives told us at our first visit that homebirth does not have to be at all "messy" for the parents, they will do all the cleanup and laundry generated by the birth.

We are having our second home-water birth. :h20homebirth: We are military living overseas and I am so thankful this option is avaliable to us! :joy: my sons birth was an amazing, empowering, healing birth after the hospital experiences of his older sisters, and our loss of Isaiah. ^i^ 1-15-06

I actually can not wait to do it again, and our midwife has decided DH just needs to be the one to deliver baby this time...(her there to supervise, just him doing it all) I heart my midwife! so different from the OB that laughed in my dh's face when he asked if he could help catch our second dd (even with docs hands around dh's hands guiding him) :(

I'd really like a homebirth with a midwife, but will prob end up UC or hospital if babes arrive early. I'd love to UC this time; not sure I've got the guts to go with it...

I'm all too aware that regardless of my preferences/ intention: birth, let's face it, can be wonderfully unpredictable.....so we'll see on the day :joy:

Was hoping for a homebirth with this babe, but it is not looking that way...in NY, while insurance has to cover homebirth, they have made it tricky-they will pay for it if you can find an OB to attend the birth OR if you can hire the one midwife in my area that has the 'proper' certification to bill the insurance company. Well, Susan is booked solid and I would be pretty darn bummed even if she wasn't to not have Kelly attend this birth as she was there with Em and is such a dear friend. So we are planning for a birth at the birthing center which in all fairness is quite lovely and cozy and has fabulous jacuzzi tubs and a kitchen to cook in-but isn't home... (but between you, me, and the lamp post I am secretly lusting for a UC:wink Who knows? Maybe labor will just go too quickly!)
