Question about Dutch windows...

What are the things called that stick directly on the window, where it lets the sun in but gives you some privacy? It looks like some kind of adhesive that sticks to the window pane. We had them on our front window when we lived in the Netherlands and I saw them on most Dutch windows, but I've never seen them in the U.S.

I looked at the Praxis website, but I can't find them. My husband is meeting up with Dutch friends at a conference next week, and I'm hoping I can find this stuff before then and ask them to bring it when they head to the U.S.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and where I can find them? :love

Sorry - I know exactly what you are talking about... unfortunately I don't know the name. I've seen them at hardware shops in rolls but not at the Praxis.

I will try to remember tomorrow to pop in and ask the name for you, okay?

Btw this tribe is in something like hibernation for the past few weeks so that may be why you haven't gotten many replies.

I know exactly what you mean, but don't know what it's called either. It's hard to believe that it doesn't exist in America, though.

Okay I stopped by the hardware shop and it's called vensterfolie - window foil. It's actually pretty cheap for a roll. The width varies and depending on that so does the price. And of course you can get it in all sorts of different patterns and stuff. Anyway hope that helps!

It's also called plak-plastic, might find it at any bouwmarkt under that name
Gamma bouwmarkt has it for sure, but they call it glas-folie (http://www.gamma.com/zoeken.html?naar=plakplastic)!!
Dutch language can drive one crazy, I know ;)

raamfolie, vensterfolie, glasfolie. You can also look for 'plakplastic' which is a more generic term

we love "window foil".
You can buy them easily at ebay in the United States too although they are much cheaper in the Netherlands....
