View Full Version : Losing Plug at 28 Weeks? Maybe TMI

I've been having way more wetness this pregnancy than with my others, and it's really irritating. I tried using pantyliners, but the fluid is so thick it just sits on top of the pad and doesn't get absorbed. :gross

But today when I went to the bathroom, though, there were some greenish bits when I wiped. Nothing big and nothing really gelatinous looking, but still green. Yuck. Is this my plug or do I have some sort of infection? I don't have any itching or anything.

The baby's been moving a lot less the last few days, too, which also has me worried. I tried checking my cervix, but I've never been very good at it. I felt what I thought was my cervix, but it was awfully soft. It was in the same place that I remember from TTC, though, and came down lower when I sort of bore down.

Is this just normal/third baby stuff, or is something else going on?

For green discharge I would get checked for a vag. infection. It doesn't sound at all like your mucus plug so that's good. Your cervix feeling soft is very normal, especially in a third time mama (I've found this out myself as a third time mom) it may also feel slightly open. All normal.

If you ever feel concerned it doesn't hurt to get checked out.

i would say go get checked for an infection. the only time i have heard of green discharge during pregnancy (or really any other time) is with an infection. sometimes infections can be asymptomatic. the mucus plug would be whitish or yellowish possibly tinged with pink, red, or brown.

The parts of my plugs that I've seen through 2 pregnancies were a greenish blob each time. This pregnancy I lost a bit a little earlier than 28 weeks and she's still in there just fine.

If you don't have any other weird symptoms or notice any changes in your body I honestly wouldn't worry about it. It's gross, but nothing major is going on if it's your plug.

Thanks guys. I tend to think it's not an infection since it was a one-time thing, and since it was pieces of green in otherwise white discharge. I'll mention it to my midwife when I see her on Friday, though. It is definitely gross, but part of the territory, I guess. :)

I lost a large part of my plug with DD2 right at 24 weeks. She stayed until 38 wks, I did slow down quite a bit the last 1-2m because the BH were almost constant when I was more active.

yes, even if it was part of your plug it doesn't mean labor is imminent. the mucus plug is regenerated if you lose any part of it sooner than when your body is ready to go into labor.
