simply by trying to warm up a piece of gluten free pizza on a plate. The crust was homemade (the garfava/sorghem/rice/potato starch mix), with sauce on it. That's it. I used the muffin sensor heat function, which I use to heat up NORMAL pizza allll the time. All of sudden, smoke was POURING out of my micro, and now the main floor of my house smells like I should be calling the insurance company in to clean it.:o

Anybody else ever have this kind of experience? We've been wheat/gluten free for about a year and a half, and I guess I've just never had to warm up their pizza in the nuker before?...

*sigh*

I am wondering if it wasn't a malfunction on the part of the microwave...but it's never done anything like it before, and seems to work fine, now... I'm thinking that the gf flour just has a lower smoking point?...:p

My entire house smells like burned popcorn today!

There you go, trying to be healthy with your gluten-free pizza. :tsk

:lol I'm so glad it wasn't serious.

Eh, it was for my SON's health, only MY SANITY. The boy is a train-wreck if I feed him wheat. That's what I get for heating it up the fast way, instead of on a pizza stone, though. Won't see me doin' it again. I spent ALL day today washing down walls, cabinets, rugs and curtains. My HANDS hurt from wringing out the washcloth. I guess it's the universe's way of making sure I get my spring cleaning in this year... :eyesroll

Heeheeeheee...just two weeks ago I started a fire in my oven making a roasted veggie medley. And of course it was just moments after Ben puked on my couch and floor. Thankfully it extinguished itself by the time I grabbed the fire extinguisher. Sadly, not one of my crummy neighbors bothered coming over to see if there really was a fire while the detector was going off for 5 minutes. On a Sunday afternoon. Sucky people.

Just had to laugh, because it took me forever to scrub that oven out.
