After all of the stress and heartache that the local midwife put my husband and me through this past week, I've decided to see another midwife for my early prenatal care. To my delight, she's even covered by my insurance. She comes highly recommended from several mothers in the Maryland/DC tribe on this board, so that helps.

I'm still planning on working with a different midwife in NYC for the birth, but it will be nice to have someone local that I can call on if I need something between now and when I move this summer. And it will be so much more relieving to have that someone not give me misinformation and stress me out at every turn.

I'm going to leave the matter alone for a few days, then send the Hopkins midwife explaining my reasons for withdrawing from her care. Part of me feels "obligated" to go see her for one office visit because I told her that I would and because she criticised me for being unfair to her, but screw that. It's more important for me to do what's best (and least stressful) for me and for my embryo right now.

My initial consultation with the new local midwife is set up for one week from today. Whee!

Thanks for all the support, everyone. I'm working hard on being more assertive and doing what's best for me with this pregnancy and birth, especially where it isn't the path of least resistance, and I'm feeling a lot better about things now that I've decided not to go back to the midwife who made me feel so wretched.
