View Full Version : Pondering Names...

Even though it's early, I'm sure most of us have though of names for these babes! Perhaps even before they were conceived! So, what ones are you considering?
My oldest DS is Thor, my DD is Anna, and for this one we would like to go with a similar northern european name, or at least unique name. We do not have very many good ideas though! I've considered for a girl: Astrid, Hazel, Bristol. For a boy: Soren, Winter, Aiden...

For years I planned on naming a daughter Astrid. I've since changed my mind, but I still think it's a fabulous name. Hazel and Soren also rock.

Maybe in a couple months those of us who have settled on names can make a sticky.
I LOVE thinking about names. I like old-fashioned names, names that sound like names, names that start with the letter A (and other vowels), Slavic names, and names no other kid will have (those categories don't always entirely overlap). My current favorites are Agatha Winnifred and Myron Ernie. I also like Amma, Agnes, Evan, Oskar, and more I can't think of now.
We're also thinking about naming our kid after our parents - nice name combinations, but I have a hard time envisioning calling my kid by my mom's name. Anyone else have that issue?

Erlaine, I've thought of giving a possible daughter's name my grandmother's name as her middle name. If that makes sense. My grandmother's name is Margaret, so I've thought of like, Astrid Margaret or Hazel Margaret.
Agatha is a cool name! I also like Elias.

I really beleive names should mean something, either in definition or have a family history, etc. My oldest daughter is Alexis Nichole. Alexis means protector/defendor which I think is fitting for the oldest and for her nurturing spirit. Her middle name she shares with one of my dearest friends I've known for ages. DD#2 is Gloria Jane, after my DH's grandmothers. Gloria and Jane are both wonderful, caring, strong women that we hope Glo will turn out like. So. . . for this one, we're thinking Grace Kay if it's a girl. Grace is DH's great-aunt. She's one of those fabulous little old ladies you could talk to for hours. Kay was the middle name of my aunt who passed away in June. She was a wonderful woman and the inspiration for me to start crocheting (which is now my livelihood). For a boy, we are thinking Levi Matthew, it's a religious name that really resonates with us for alot of reasons.

I really want a name that means 'freedom'...... I can't find anything I like though. I don't know why that meaning is so important to me but for some reason it is.............

Ah, yes - another favorite of mine is Nadia, which means "hope."
I know a guy who goes by Free - perhaps that's too hippie for you, though.

Nothing can be too hippie for me lol....... DD1 Kaya was named after one of Bob Marleys songs and DD2 Kama is named after Kama the God of Love........... I just prefer it to not be so obvious ya know and I have to get it around DH who is up for different names, just very, very, very, very (did I say very?) picky lol......

My oldest is Gillian Rhiannon, and my little is Jacob Sirius.
This one... we've had some of that preconception & prebirth communication - *her* name is Brigid Evelyn. I am going to be freaked out if it is a boy! There's even been a few hints to me to expect two this time - and I have been informed that the second girl's name would be Bronwen (or Bronwyn, whichever spelling) Orion.
Go figure. :)

ANDREA!!! Are you kidding me? Remember today I said I had a boys name picked out? It's SILAS JAMES! I am kinda glad Dave doesn't like Silas... lol... JM does like it. He's already calling my stomach "SouljaBoy Silas"
I love love love love love names. Obsessively love.
I like taking two names of important people and combining them.
My DD's middle name is Lauren from my parents Laurie and Glen
If I have another girl, her middle name will be Kerilyn based on my best friend Kerry and my MIL Evelyn :)

WHHAAATT! Are you serious?! What are the odds?! That's hilarious!
I am SO dead-set on that name. Dave can hate it all he wants- if it's a boy, it's totally Silas. I have a feeling it's a girl, though.

i definitely agree, i was going to say we should just add it to the due dates, but i am having a hard keeping up with that as it is. but i still think that is a great place for it.
speaking of names, i dreamed of Evelyn the morning before BFP. and a few names we didn't use from last time, Orion for a boy, although DH wasn't sold on it, and we also have a sentimental attachment to Robin.

My DD Anna was so close to being Evelyn. I love that name, and Eve for short.
We also almost named her Talia.

Ooh, Erlaine, I like Nadia. It's one of my favorites, along with Sonia and Lara. I can seem to come up with an endless list of girls' names. It's the boys' names I have trouble with. I would like my child to grow up bilingual English/Italian like I did so I'd like a name that sounds good in both languages. Girls' names transition very easily, boys' names not so much....
By the way, how do I get a pregnancy ticker in my signature?

I have a Hannah Elizabeth, and we like more old fashioned names
I love the middle name Joy, I've wanted to name my next girl's middle name that since Hannah was just born :love DH isn't thrilled about the 'character trait names' so in case I'm not successful in convincing him, I could do Abigail for a middle or first name, which *means* Joy :) Haven't really thought about a first name. I like Margaret too, but our last name starts with an 'F' so I'm not thrilled about the initials of MF ;)
I love Zachariah, Isaiah, Samuel, and William for boys, not sure about middle names.

You have to do it manually on MDC, so people that have them just use numbers and ***s and change the smilie weekly :)

Augustine, we LOVE the name Thor!:love My husband's family is Scandinavian, and names like Thor and Leif are on our list for boys! I also like Leo, Arthur, Justice, Micah and Seattle.
For girls, wow, there are so many! We like old-fashioned names, and I prefer offbeat names. Tasmyn, Meadow, Sofia, Laurel, Anabel are some favorite girl names right now...but I think we'll have to wait and see what really fits our babe before we name him/her.
Tireesix ~ Liberty is a good name meaning freedom!

Fiona and Kieran, our six-year olds, are both Gaelic names. We had Fiona picked out years and years before we even ttc. When we started looking at names, we found that we both like names w/ Gaelic/Celtic origins. Once we learned we were expecting twins, we had to pick out 2 girls AND 2 boys. OMG, was that hard.
We'll probably use the "leftover" girl's name, Gillian Elizabeth (Elizabeth after my grandmother). I'm not sure dh is really crazy about Gillian, but I just love that name. Our second boy's name, Connor, is way too popular now. I don't like really common names and we know a ton of Connors/Carsons/Carters/etc. So we're looking again. Or I'm looking and dh is laughing at me for worrying about names when I'm only 6 weeks pg! I've been looking at babynameworld.com.
So if anyone has suggestions for Gaelic boy's names, let me know!

We've had names picked out for years, all our kids have had names before they were concieved lol. This one will be either Nathan Joshua (after my DH (N) and my brother(J)) or Rachel Kathleen (Kathleen is my mom's middle name). We like having Bible names for first names and family names for middle names. With my boys, Jason's middle name James is after DH's bro who died soon after birth, and Jacob's middle name Allen is a family name on DH's side. We decided that this time our kid will have a name tie to my family lol.

Maile Joy for a girl. Not sure about a boy name yet.

We've also gone with Gaelic/Irish names..hence Riley and Nolan. If this one is a boy his name will most likely be Finnegan Malone or Eoin Malone (pronounced Owen) and for a girl, Tallula Belle (it means Irish princess:wink)
BTW Tiresix...Saoirse (pronounced Sare-sha) is gaelic for freedom, apparently this was extremely popular for a girls name, I thought it was pretty :)

Cherik,
I have a great book called O'Baby...the irish baby name book. There are some very common names but most are pretty "exotic". Also, there is a great website for irish baby names that you can actually hit a LISTEN button and Frank McCourt (author of Angela's Ashes and Tis) pronounces the names in his rich, thick broge ahhh, I LOVE it :love I think its babynamesofireland.com but I'm not 100%! I'll check and let you know!

Well, my DD's name is Liberty. Libby for short. It fits her perfectly. If I have another girl I want to name her Prudence.

I think we're keeping our names to ourselves until after the birth, but we did have strong frontrunners for first names before the podling was conceived. There's part of me that wants to just think of the podling as "the podling" until the birth & then still spend a few hours with him or her to make sure that the name really fits. I think we'll consider a few alternates just in case our initial choice doesn't seem right.

We're not sure... we have two long standing girl names (Gisele Alessia and Isabella Catalina (ee-sah-bel-ah not iz - but this is America so who is ever going to pronounce it right?).... I have so many girl names that I love, and I have no real gender vibes this time. I am starting to think girl but probably because I have dreamed of a little girl for so long. A boy will be just as wonderful; I'd love Adrian to have a brother. I think our boy name is Sebastien (or Sebastian) Flynn or Jude or Gabriel as the MN... but honestly, DH refuses to talk about it. And I am adamant we are not finding out the gender this time.

I don't really care about meaning or family significance. Weird, I know. I just don't want to overthink it. Our backgrounds are Jewish and Chinese, so any name that's not specifically Christian that sounds good with a Chinese last name is worth a try. My name isn't common, which I never liked.
DD is Elizabeth Pui-Yee, known as Libby. Love that name but I'm having a hard time finding something to go with it.
If we had a boy last time we would have gone with Jacob, but now I feel like we need an Anglophile name to go with Elizabeth. I can't picture myself being a mom to a Beckett or a Graham so I'm trying to think of something more middle-of-the-road. Now that I think about it, David would be perfect...will have to run that by DH.
For a girl I like Emma/Emily but DH vetoed it. I also like Maya/Maia, which DH liked as well. Doesn't really go with Elizabeth though.
Middle names will be Chinese picked out by ILs as is their tradition.
I think it's going to be a girl, but we probably won't find out.

I'm all ready with a girl name--Kezia Jane--but I'm getting serious boy vibes and have no idea of a name for a little guy! Actually I'm not totally commited to Jane for the middle name but nothing else has jumped out at me. Thoughts?

I've got total singleton boy vibes, and have a name all picked out if that's the case. But if I've got a girl, or twins of any sexes, I'm out of luck. I'm waiting until my u/s next week to really start pondering it, since at least then I should know one vs. two, though obviously not the sex.

ooohhh! Thank you for the web site! I looked at that site when my sister found out she was expecting and could not remember the name of it when I started looking for names for us.
I like biblical names for boys' first names and family names for their middle.
I like Malachi and Elijah- but DH isn't going for it. Oh well- in NYS it is the MOM who fills out the birth certificate! I have not even considered girl names- I just feel like boy again...
