View Full Version : How to tell how far I am

OK, so I'm increasingly convinced that I may belong in the October DDC, not here. Here's the history. We stopped hormonal birth control at the end of November past. It has awful side effects for me and triggers migraines. So I had two periods in December and two in January. I know the second one in January was on the 31st because it surprised me by happening when I was out to dinner with girlfriends for a birthday. So now I'm wondering which if any of those four "periods" really were, because I'm big already. Real big. Even my girlfriends commented tonight that there's no way I'm only 6 weeks pregnant. So here's my question. I'm schedule for April 4th to see the MW. That's when I should be 9 wks according to calculations. But I'm calling tomorrow to tell them that I'm pretty sure I'm off on my calculations and see if they can see me sooner or something to try and determine what's up. There's no way this is a 6 wk gestation singleton.

I guess my point after all that rambling is are there any "at home" ways to at least ballpark how off I am? I'm hoping the MW will see me sooner and perhaps to a us to date this/confirm number of babies.

There's a picture of my belly at http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2080/2332436326_d1fb5b6c2d.jpg?v=0

I don't have any useful suggestions, but I'd agree that you don't look like you're at 6 weeks to me. Then again, what do I know? This will be my first.

I think getting an earlier appointment to see your midwife sounds like a good idea.

OK, I woke up this morning and I'm not nearly as big (in my mind) as I was last night. I may call anyway to talk to a MW and see what their take is. I wonder if I'm just retaining alot of water or something.

i looked huge at around 7 weeks w/ my first. then it went away. i think it was bloating. but i was so disappointed to not be farther along. i hope you figure it out soon! keep us updated!

This is my 3rd baby also and in the evenings my belly looks like the pic you posted and I am not quite 6 weeks yet. I am thinking everything has been stretch a few times now, so the bloat shows up more. Of course I am sure of my dates and you have reason to doubt yours. I would talk to your MW about your concerns.

Do you have a day when you remember morning sickness starting that you can compare to your other pregnancies?

If you're not opposed to ultrasounds, they are really pretty accurate at dating when it's this early.

Personally, I'd just watch my fundal height and other symptoms, but I'm pretty relaxed. I'd say it's pretty likely that those could have been fake (there's a more technological term than that) periods especially if you had messed up hormones from the birth control.

I just talked to my midwife and she agrees that I'm possibly farther along than originally thought, but it could just also be that it's the third baby, lol. She said even if I am farther along, they aren't worried about rushing seeing me right now, so I'll still go in on the 4th as planned. It's most likely the midwife I see will order an ultrasound for dating. If they are comfortable that the benefit of having accurate dating outweighs any potential harm, I am also comfortable with it. I think I feel much better just having talked to her.

I'll tell you my athome testing...I was off on my dates so I should have been grapefruit sized according to LMP but hubby who I told him how to feel kept saying nope more like small apple - he was right in the end ;) there are a few fruit correlated sizes...best to have a partner do it as they are internal ones ;) external ones..

That's funny. Do you have linkies to where I could find the fruit/uterus corrolations?

It is hard to tell. This is my third too and my stomach is bloated at night too, much to my surprise. I changed into sweats late afternoon because I was uncomfortable. I know it can be from over eating because I have not increased my food intake. sigh....our bodies are used to this by now I guess! :lol

Let us know if you find you are further along!

I was just showing DH my gut last night. It was a little poochy before pregnant, but now, it looks similar to your picture. It at least sticks out as far as my breasts. This is my 3rd baby too. He mentioned twins. :irked: I think that I just have little to no muscle tone anymore, and as my uterus swells it is just out there for the world to see. While I am a little embarrassed at having my tum sticking out there so early, I keep telling myself it is a badge of honor!
