Does anyone know why you get dryer lint? I've heard it's from fabric softener, too much detergent, the wrong detergent, etc. I don't use fabric softener and use very little detergent and still end up with it. Any ideas?

I'm guessing it's what gets worn off of the clothes as they go through the drier. The friction gets the lint off. That's also why some people get belly button lint; the friction of the shirt rubbing against your skin gets the lint off. Heat might also have something to do with it.

Okay you say dryer lint... but I get lint from clothes that do not get dryer dried.

An extreme example is one of my throw rugs, it is starting to put more and more out, I think it's because it's old and wearing out, falling apart. I just washed it and before I hung it on the line I shook it out and boy was there little white floaters all over the place, looked like a snow storm. Even after it dried I shook it again and more lint kept coming out.

me, too. i use nowhere near as much as the recommended amount of f&c detergent. and no softener, ever.

It's an accumulation of dust particles and worn particles from the clothing or anything fiberous.

My long held theory on lint is that is made up from the missing socks that go into the wash and are never seen again!

I once actually had my ex bro in law convinced that somewhere in Arcata,CA they were recycling dryer lint into fleece material for sweatpants and such! I even pointed out the store that sold them:rotflmao. Neat idea though?!?

I've actually heard somewhere about making paper out of dryer lint! I bet you could felt with it.
