My DS (22 mos) just got the cast off his leg last night and has refused to walk on it since. I'm assuming he feels that it's weak and has also absorbed us telling him NOT to step on it these last three weeks, but should I be worried?

I'm hoping someone has some advice concerning specific experience with their DC.

However, if you don't mind ~ I can share that as an adult ~ when I had the cast removed from my leg, even though it was the second (a "walking") cast, everything felt VERY weird. I was not steady on my feet for probably weeks. The skin, the muscles, EVERYTHING feels *off*. Extending my foot was quite painful, very similar to if your leg has fallen asleep from sitting on it, but multiply that times the number of WEEKS the cast was on.

Has the doc discussed physical therapy?

I'm sure that it will just take some time. :hug

My ds started walking on his again in about 5 days so it took awhile. Now a little over a year later he is doing great still. Once he started to walk on it again he didn't look back except for some fear of heights which he still struggles with. Taking a gymnastics class has helped.

Good Luck.

My dd was 14 mos when she fractured her leg, she had a cast for 2.5wks. She was walking on her cast w/in a week (why couldn't he walk on his cast?) and was walking w/in minutes of getting it off.
