Hi mamas,
I was wondering for the ladies that were concerned about excess weight gain during your PG. What did you do? Did you count calories? Weigh ins? exercise? I really really really don't want to gain back the weight that I have lost in preparation for pregnancy. I know that some weight is desirable, and I plan on BFing and realize that takes 1500+ calories a day.
I'm not pg yet, but this has really be worrying me. I'm probably over reacting, I may just need a hug.

I was in the process of loosing quite a bit of weight when getting pregnant. Realy and truly, I am trying not to let my weight get in the picture. Ofcorse it is in the back of my mind.
I'm not working out, or 'dieting'. I eat what I want but in smaller portions. Like what I would give my 3yr old. Then I eat 3 healthy meals a day, and if I need a snack I try to make it a peice of cheese, or fruit, and lay off the higher empty carbs.
I look at it this way, I will only be pregnant fora few more months, then have the rest of my life to worry about my weight, and to loose weight, keep it off ect.
And you don't have to gain weight while pregnant. Besides my first pregnancy when I gained alot of weight, because I was unhealthy. With my other 2 pregnancies I only gained 20-30 lbs, but by my 6wk check I lost all but about 5 of those lbs. You will gain weight but most of that will be baby, breast, and water weight. Not fat weight. Any more than the 20-30lbs will probably be fat. So as long as I keep it to that, I'm not to worried about derailing myself.

I'm in the process of loosing weight...then I got pregnant. I am still going to be going to the gym, working out, eating healthy. I have been walking 2 miles a day with my friend. Starting out a pregnancy overweight is not healthy for me or baby, so I am hoping to stay active and healthy and what will come will come, but at least if I know that I am living healthy, I can deal with whatever weight comes my way. :)

I lost over 50lbs last year and think I've put about 30lbs of it back on so far (31 weeks). I say "think", because I quit weighing myself once into 2nd tri, and my mw doesn't weigh me either. It's more important to me to be as stressfree and to eat as varied a diet as possible during pregnancy, than worry about my weight too much and scare myself into possibly dieting while pg, which is not a good idea.
And this approach has worked for me: I'm generally eating very healthily with occasional 'naughty' things that seem like a real treat. I have a huge appetite and need to eat more than I usually would or I feel lightheaded and nauseous.
I figure I'll settle into bfeeding and see how I do then. If I need to diet again once I'm in some sort of routine, I'll do it - I did it before so I can do it again. My weight is a long-term health concern for me, so I'm looking at the long-term. My pregnancy and baby are more of an immediate concern, so I'll do what's best for them at the moment and that does not include counting calories, for me.
I exercise every day anyway (I walk to work) and although it's becoming more difficult due to pubic pain, I'm sticking with it. If I've got a few extra pounds to lose at the end of all of this, no biggie. I'd worry if I was getting seriously enormous or eating crap, but neither of those is the case so not point in stressing, right?

I actually only gained a net of about 10 pounds with #2. I lost 25 in the first tri because I was so sick, and then I just wasn't very hungry. I ended up gaining back 35, which was fine. I left the hospital weighing what I went into pregnancy.
And with this one, I'm 31w4d and I'm still down about 4 pounds. I only lost 14 in the first and second tri's, but I'm very slowly putting it back on. Most weeks it's maybe a pound.
I'm certainly not doing anything to lose weight. I just naturally want to eat less and eat healthier. It's blasphemous, but chocolate doesn't appeal to me most days. Some days I could live on salads and carrots and be perfectly happy. :D

Oops, and I forgot:
:Hug :D
Seriously, just figure out what'll work for you in terms of eating healthily and staying active, and you'll be fine. If you find yourself vastly overeating and getting no exercise at all once you're pg, you may wish to follow a diet (plenty of healthy eating plans available online for pg women) but there's simply no point in stressing before that actually happens. It's been weird for me after so many years of dieting that I seriously need to eat so much more than I'm used to, which is why I made a concerted effort to not stress about it. Your body should tell you what you need, so learn to listen to it and keep calm. Lots of luck!

I lost a ton of weight a couple of years before getting pregnant, wasn't thrilled to see that after the birth I was still up by about 30 lbs, and am not thrilled that it's likey to be the same story after this baby is born ... but you know, I wouldn't change a thing. It sucks to lose weight and gain it back, but this is not sitting on our butts eating cheetos kind of regaining, you know? Just eat healthy foods when you're hungry, stop when you're full, get exercise at whatever level is comfortable for you, and when you step on the scale after the baby is born just remember that whatever weight has come back came back because that's what your body needed to do, and that having lost it once you already know how to do it again.
