I know that processed and refined sugars are to be had sparingly, if at all, in pregnancy, but what about more natural sugars like in fruit? My urine has tested positive for sugar the last two times I've gone to the midwife and DH thinks I should stop eating fruit or only eat very little as his colleague's wife ate tons of fruit while pregnant, thinking that was healthy, and ended up having high sugar for the whole pregnancy and they induced her early. Is there any truth to this or is it perfectly ok to eat as much fruit as you want in pregnancy?

I had to follow a diet during my last pregnancy for gestational diabetes, and there were some limits on fruit but I didn't have to give it up altogether.
Look online for lists of "low-carb" fruits. These include cantaloupe and kiwi and won't make your blood sugar rise as much. Fruit that has a lot of fiber in it, like apples, is also good. And don't just eat fruit by itself - put a bit of protein with it, like peanut butter or cottage cheese.
Also, my nutritional counselor told me not to eat fruit for breakfast. That was really hard for me, but apparently it's easier for your body to process the sugars later in the day.
Hope this helps. :banana
