I think there are four of us in here now. :D :jumpers:

To continue our Maca research... if you don't mind, some questions. :)

Do you honestly feel the Maca helped you get pregnant?
Are you continuing to take it through pregnancy? If so what tri-mesters, or all?
Have you noticed it helping with m/s?
Would you recomend maca to others?

For me... Yes.. I beleive the combo of maca and vitex helped me finally ovulate again and get pregnant. :D I am taking the maca at least through the first-trimester.

I think it has to be helping with the m/s... I didn't have the juice I drink it with for a few days and I got m/s bad Monday and some yesterday. I got the juice and started the maca again after being sick yesterday morning and I have been fine since. :D

I think I'm going to tell my cousin about Maca. She has been TTC since November... I have an extra package I can give her, since I plan on taking it just through 1st tri.

Do you honestly feel the Maca helped you get pregnant?I think it may have. or I may have gotten pregnant w/out it, BUT....it did end all my in between cycles spotting & I "O"d 3 days earlier. I also just felt all around better.
Are you continuing to take it through pregnancy? If so what tri-mesters, or all? Yes, I am still taking it, just not as faithful now that I feel a bit icky. It does seem to help w/ m/s (if I can just drink it down) I got a different brand this time & not liking it as much as my original purchase. I plan to take it through entire pregnancy
Have you noticed it helping with m/s?yes, but not on any empty stomach.
Would you recomend maca to others?Absolutely!!!:love

I'm like you AMothersLove... if I can ignore the queasy ick for long enough to get it down, I'm generally MUCH better. lol Really weird... it's helping with the slow bowel movements too when I take it... sorry about TMI... but tis par for the course I suppose.. :innocent

Hi A Mother's Love and JSMa! I can't believe I'm actually here!! Wooo!!!

I think my due date is late Jan, but based on being over a week late with DS I might actually have a feb baby. But I'm joining Jan anyway because I'm too excited to wait for the feb board :D

Do you honestly feel the Maca helped you get pregnant?
I'm not sure but I really do think the combo of maca and vitex helped me o. I was getting periods, but was anovulatory (I think b/c I am nursing and my hormones are still getting back on track) and then this cycle I finally o'd! I still can't believe that I actually got pg b/c our BD timing was not ideal. So maybe the maca helped the spermies live longer or something :).

Are you continuing to take it through pregnancy? If so what tri-mesters, or all?
Yes, at least through the first.

Have you noticed it helping with m/s?
I still have no symptoms (which is kind of freaking me out because I want to feel something different kwim? But I did have some pretty bad nausea with DS so hopefully the maca will help me in the weeks to come. I'm glad to hear it has been working for you guys!

Would you recomend maca to others?
Definitely! Esp those having hormonal balance issues (nursing, off bcps, pcos, etc.) If you buy the powder it's really not that expensive.

Yay- I hope maca continues to work its magic for all of us :love

Ok, I updated my signature so now it's 'official' :D

Still a bit nervous that I'm not having any symptoms, but hopefully its just because the maca is protecting me. hehe. When did you guys first start to feel anything? I'm 12 dpo right now...

Whew. Thats a relief. I was trying to remember when m/s started for me with DS and I couldn't. I'm pretty sure I had the 'big boobs' symptom with him from the very beginning, but that one might be hard for me to recognize this time around since I'm still nursing. Not that I WANT to have m/s but it is a nice reminder that the little one is healthy :).

Woo, hey, me too!

Do you honestly feel the Maca helped you get pregnant?
Yep. Definitely. The details: earlier ovulation, stronger libido (for me and for husband).

Are you continuing to take it through pregnancy? If so what tri-mesters, or all?
Yes, at least through the first. With my daughter, I had low progesterone and spotting, but not this time. I credit maca.

Have you noticed it helping with m/s?
No, not really.

Would you recomend maca to others?
Definitely!

I took maca just for the 12 days or so before I got pregnant, but I credit it, because we've been trying for 4 months before that, and even though I charted and we "did it" on the right days, no pregnancy.

Question - how can you stomach maca right now? The smell of my brand, Maca Magic, is pretty overpowering right now. I used to take it with yogurt, sugar and cinnamon, but can't get myself to try it yet.

Jenifer - what juice do you use?

Welcome ruthmg and leerypolyp!

Here's how I drink my maca magic powder. As of now, Im able to get it down pretty easily. I just don't breathe through my nose, esp when I'm transferring the maca from the container to the blender :).

8 oz unsweetened chocloate almond milk
1/2 ripe banana
2 T maca powder

Blend and enjoy! I experimented a bit and found that for me chocolate and bananas were the most complimentary to the maca flavor. This shake is pretty low cal too. I add some yogurt if I want it to be a bit more filling.

I use Dole Mango Peach Orange Juice...

I haven't been able to stomach it everyday. lol If I can get it down I usually feel better... but if I can't even smell it without gagging... I just do some gingerale and skip it.

I may need to get up eariler and attempt shakes if it continues and I continue to notice a big difference from days I take it to days I don't.

I just use capsules (some kind of isolate something or other -- it was what I could find locally, and I know I felt a difference with it). That helps with the taste thing.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and I'm from the Caribbean. My DH and I were TTC # 3 since October 2007 and nothing. This will be our 5th pregnancy. We have 1 dd 5, 1 ds 2, and 2 angels. I'm currently 7.5 weeks.

I tried everything from clomid to vitex to preseed and OPKs and nothing worked. I turned to MACA & Geritol complete and BAM! BFP within the same cycle. I'm using it cautiously (1 capsule every other day) because although my gut tells me it's okay to use while pregnant, 4 out of 5 websites say otherwise.

I'm a Maca advocate. This stuff rocks.

hi boris101! Could you point me to the sites that say maca is dangerous during pregnancy? I was a little concerned about it when I started taking it, but couldn't find anything saying it was potentially dangerous during pg or bfing. Thanks!

JSMa

I'm curious about which websites too, because in all the research I have done I did not come across anything like that. In fact most of them told how it's a food staple in many cultures and the women eat it regularly, pregnant, breastfeeding, whenever really.

I have also had an herbalist tell me it was okay. There are zero side effects to it.

ruthmg

The only side effect I've found is that it smells going out too. Sorry for being graphic, but I've had to lay off the maca during this stage becuase it just smells too much at either end!

Just Google the words "maca" and "pregnancy" and you'll see the types of hits you get.

Could you also tell me where you found positive info on taking maca duing pregnancy?

leerypolyp

Yeah, the sites that say not to take it during pregnancy don't cite any reasons, they just say they can't recommend it. That's litigious-society speak for "It's fine, but we're covering our butts because it hasn't been tested in a lab." Even prenatal vitamins say to consult a practitioner before taking if you're pregnant.

There's nothing about it that would suggest it's dangerous. It's a vegetable, you know?
