I would like to start TTC ASAP. Is there any reason to wait? I feel a little gun shy. I have had 2 losses back to back before this loss and I don't want to go through that again but that is the only thing I am worried about. In fact DH and I have been DTD without protection. I guess we should be more careful until I have had a least one period.

Personally if I had had two losses back to back I would wait a minimum of one AF, but probably 3 just to let my body regulate a bit more.

My pregnancy was tubal and my doc said that he'd like for me to wait 3 months, but a lot of that is for me to recover emotionally. He said that if I came back to my next appointment pregnant it wouldn't be a big deal, though.

I'm going to wait until I have one normal period before trying, even though we haven't been using any sort of BC anyway.

I had a natural miscarriage. The ob I saw recommended waiting at three cycles for the uterine lining to rebuild and shed. He had some evidence to suggest that the lining can be too thin after a loss to allow proper implantation. Our midwife recommended at least one cycle to allow my body to heal and regulate.

If you had a d&c it definitely takes two to three cycles for your body to heal. There is a lot of evidence to suggest a miscarriage is more likely if you try before your body is healed.

Good luck.

I was also told to wait three cycles. It is going to be a long summer, waiting to try again.

I am finding that it is already going to be a long month :lol I had a natural MC and my midwife said that I just really need to have one cycle before TTC. DH and I have a very active sex life and have never really had to worry about birth control so this really sucks.

My doc told me to wait until I had once cycle to try again post d&c. I waited one cycle after both of my miscarriages. I'm now on my first cycle of TTC since my last M/C so we'll see what happens. It took 4 months after my first m/c to get pregnant, but that baby didn't stick. My doc said to wait so the lining had a chance to build up.

It's interesting to see all the responses from posters on this topic. I did have a m/c with D&C Apr.29. My first AF started exactly 28 days after D&C - which I think is a good sign that my body is regulating normally - I hope :shy. I go back to the OB this Wed. and have several questions to ask about this issue. It sounds like a lot of docs have different advice - so I'm going to ask mine if he has any research to back up what he's saying or if it's just his best opinion considering he's been a doc for probably 20 yrs :).

Good luck to everyone TTC and I'll post what I hear on Wed. If you're interested, I also put up a poll on how long you waited after M/C before TTC again. So far it looks like 1month is ahead of 2 or 3+

is there any way you could point me in the direction of the research supporting the time it takes to heal or be ready to conceive after a m/c or D and C? I have looked everywhere and not found any solid information.
It makes sense that the body needs time to heal but my OB seemed sure that we could go ahead and ttc as soon as we were ready. It really is confusing to get such different answers from professionals about this.

I second this...anyone with info in the way of solid research would be GREATLY appreciated. I DO NOT want to have to go through a m/c again and if all it takes to increase the odds is waiting one extra month (with a large statistical increase) I'll do it. For me, and probably many others in their 40's who are TTC - I feel like we have to make every month count :love

I am not sure where the info I saw in the office came from. I barely looked at it to be honest. Since then, I have never been able to find any many studies either way, but I have not been exhaustive in my searches. I have been fairly thorough with the resources I have. It really seems like all medical research is done on the impact of intervention and not on a natural miscarriage resulting from natural conception. I have found the D&C information on my own while trying to find repeat spontaneous abortion/miscarriage rates based on timing of conception for non-controlled conception and miscarriage. If you want D&C stats then you can do a search on google scholar for it. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.
