Hi, all..
I was recently pregnant and had a m/c at 6 weeks. I noticed during my pregnancy that I felt slight cramping when I was using my laptop (sitting on/near my belly). When noticed, I would move the laptop to my legs or set in on a pillow. Have any of you ever experienced this? I am wondering if the heat from the laptop relates to cramping? The laptop does get HOT. I don't assume this caused my m/c but wonder what the deal was. Thoughts? Thanks. :)

when i found out i pg i was worried about the "radiation" from the laptop and it sitting on my lap around my pelvic area and with the heat i heard it can be the same as sitting in the hot spa it can heat your temp up and cause damage. i dont know how true that is but i didnt want to chance it. i m/c at 5 weeks. when i did use the lap top i didnt get cramping (i had them the whole time anyways) sorry i cant be of more help.

I don't use a laptop on my lap/belly due to the radiation. They even say if your TTC to not have your partner/DH use one on his lap because it can kill his little spermies.

I just did a bunch of research and could not find any study on this. I am sitting here with my laptop on my lap, so I am freaking out a little. On other sites, not actual studies, I read that the only radiation from computers comes from the monitors or screens. Laptops are made with LCD screens, which emits little to no radiation. They said that on desktop computers it is worse. The things I read also said that you get more radiation from watching television then being on your laptop.
Anyone have any info to substantiate the laptop and toxic radiation information?

I solely use a laptop as well, on my lap on the couch:) I actually usually put a large book between the laptop and my legs b/c it is very warm. I'd definitely be interested in any research on this.

Thanks for responding. I know... it does get HOT and I have often thought about health risks. I don't mean to freak you out. I use a laptop exclusively also. I'll keep looking into it...

What I have researched and found is that laptops emit radiation if they have a wireless card...due to the radio frequency it transmits. It also depends on the screen but most have an LDC one that does not emit radiation.

I found this if anyone is interested in buying a protective barrier http://www.winstontechnologies.com/lapShield.html.
I have been doing a bit of reseach, and I think the problem is not the laptop alone, but the cumulative amount of radiation from all of our radiactive technology. So, it is not that the computer is emitting a huge amount of radiation (from what I have found...not sure if it is true), but that combined with everything else we are putting our society at risk. http://www.mindfully.org/Technology/2006/Firstenberg-EMF-Experiment1jan06.htm
The only think I can find specifically on laptops and fertilty was related to sperm production (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,118884-page,1/article.html).
This kind of freaks me out. I have a laptop with wireless internet that I use a lot everyday. Our ds also spends about an hour a week with the computer on his lap.

There was a thread recently about this, and as I recall, the conclusion was that there is no danger from laptop radiation.

And quoting the post that I found most convincing:
I do a lot of electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing as part of my job in the aerospace industry. The level of EMI emissions (it is not radiation) coming off a laptop is extremely, extremely low. You have no worries. The only everyday, household item you should be concerned about is your cell phone. Cell phones put out a ton of emissions. The more "bells and whistles" the phone has, the more emissions it puts out. If you are pregnant, you should discontinue using a belt clip for you phone, if that is your preferred method of carrying it. You should also discontinue carrying it in your pocket.
The wireless industry is working on lowering the EMI emissions for cell phones, but they are still several years away from what should be considered safe levels.
Use your laptop as you normally would.
