There are 2 cert. programs , both within 8 miles of my house-1 AMS and 1 AMI. I am trying to decide if either is "doable" with a 2 year old or if I should wait a few years (although we may not be in this area then...)

AMI-full time 1 year graduate program--basically --going to school full time

AMS -summer academics and then 4 hours per day in the classroom over the academic year......

I am wondering how "intense" the academic portions are???? Will I be totally stressed out trying to be SAHM to my 2 yr old but basically--hard charging and getting it done!?? I'm not ready for ds to start school but think I can get someone to come to the house to stay with him for the 4 hours daily...or maybe I could assist in the Toddler program and he could go with?? Anyone done any of this???? ANY insight would be helpful-theres a May 1 deadline

I don't have training but am very interested. Not knowing anythingabout the programs I would pick AMI over AMS.
I would probably try to get my kids enrolled at the school. Sorry I don't have any actual experience just my 2 cents.

a lot of people think AMI is best because AMS "americanizes" Montessori. For me, having lived abroad several times, I don't think bringing it into the year 2002 and making some minor cultural adaptations is bad. Most positions I have seen require AMS or AMI. I am wondering how heavy the coursework is....the AMI course (which leads to a M. Ed.) is 12,000 (yikes) but I think thats averag efor grad school....thank god for student loans.

Mallory-the AMI course is at Loyola in Baltimore--not far from you and the AMS is also in Md. in Timonium!!!!

I became certified AMI in 94-95. It is very intense. I at the time was single and childless. But I was able to hold a full time job and take the training and did very well.
I highly recommend the AMI training. It is the authentic Montessori... which is very scientific. AMS is good but really go with the best since you have the choice! Also for the future AMI is looked at as the better when applying for a teaching position.
Good luck! I'm sorry I missed this thread before the dead line!
