View Full Version : Guess if you're having a boy or girl.

I figured it might be fun to guess if you're having a boy or a girl. I have 3 boys ages 7, 6, and 4 and of course alot of my family is saying, "hope this one is the girl!" But going by my track record I think this baby will be a boy. My hubby says it's a girl but hopefully we'll find out in 4-5 months when we go for a sonogram. I bet with my hubby, so if I win he has to buy me a boquet of edible creations. YUM! :eat: Anyone who posts their guess here should come back and repost whether or not they're guess was correct.
Also, if you think you're having a multiple birth post that too. :)

I think I'm having a boy--I seem to gestate boys pretty well. :lol: We want to adopt once more after this baby's born (so that we have two biological ones at home and two adopted ones) and we'll adopt the gender we *don't* get this time to even it out. And for some reason, I think that we'll be adopting another girl in a few years, so I must be gestating a boy. :lol:

I'm going to guess boy. My husband is third generation of families with all boys so I think we are continuing the trend.
Secretly, I want a girl. I am one of three girls :)

I kind of think it's a girl. I don't think it's twins though. With my last pregnancy I thought it was twins, but I m/c'ed, so I don't know for sure. Despite my doctor telling me it probably wasn't, my gut instinct insists that it was. I don't have that gut feeling this time though, even though I was on clomid and my chances were higher.

I think we're having a girl, but DH thinks it's a boy. My mom thinks that I will be the mama of a house full of boys, but I can't help but hope I have one little girl and I'm feeling like its this one. With DS I had all kinds of dreams that he was a boy, but I haven't had any yet with this pregnancy.

Both DH and I would like a girl, and I actually feel like it is. There are already 3 boys in the family (our nephews), so a girl would be nice.

Yeah me too. I love having girls & wouldn't be upset if this ones a boy. I have a strong feeling it's a boy though. I asked my hubby what he thought, cause he's been right both tiems so far but he said hhe doesn't have a feelign one way or the other.

Based on the timing of things when we TTC, I think it's going to be a boy. DH is from a family of boys and says he can't even fathom ever having a girl :eyesroll I really want twin girls, though!

I think mine is either a girl or maybe twins. I had a strong feeling it was twins all last week, but now I feel like it's just one girl. Clearly my 'mother's intuition' bone is broken:p.

My three-year-old thinks we're having twin girls. We didn't even tell him we were pregnant at all but he's very spiritual and sensitive, so he picked up on the energy. He told me it's two girls, and that he talks to them, and he told me he named them Peebee and Beelella and Blanket-blanket . . . "Wait a minute," I said, "how many do you think are in there anyway?!?!" And then he counted to ten. :lol
Yeah I don't know.

If you buy into the girl-carrying-sperm are slow-swimming and boy-carrying are fast then we are definitely having a girl. This may be TMI but DH and I DTD, then he left for a business trip in Indiana, and I didn't ovulate until four days later. I know they say sperm can survive for up to five days but we were pretty shocked. I would be totally happy with either. I was thinking it was twins again but now I'm not so sure. If it is twins I would be hoping for a boy and a girl again, I love how much that reduces the comparisons people make between them. Plus then we'd have two of each and I like things to be even :)

Have any of you tried the needle-over-the-tummy test?
I did, and it went from girl (circle) to boy (straight back and forth) to girl again, then to boy again. Then stopped. It did something similar when I tried that when I was pregnant with my second son-- couldn't seem to decide on a gender! Anyone else have any luck with this?

Based on it being two days before ovulation, I'm assuming it's a girl. Which is what I'd like, but of course I would be equally thrilled with a boy, since this will be our last baby.
On the one hand it'll be easier if it's a girl, as we already have all girl clothes and stuff. But on the other hand it'll be easier if it's a boy as the guest room is not quite as big as Guinevere's room, so there wouldn't be as much of a deal with closet space later on.
Last time I made the same assumption about gender (again, because of TTC time), and was right. My husband says he wants another girl, and my mom wants a boy (because otherwise the Force will become imbalanced or something -- kidding -- still, she's all about everyone needs one of each gender).

I don't really care what it is as long as it's a baby.
I FEEL like it is a boy. My two daughters think it is a boy. (Jewely says we should name him Henry)
DH thinks it's a girl, he had a dream once that he had three daughters. His dreams have come true in the past...more then once. He even dreamed something eerily similar to sept-11th three days before it happened. He also dreamed we were pregnant 3 or 4 days before we found out the first time.
I did do the needle test. it said boy, 5 times over the hand and once over the belly when dh did it. I did it over Dh hand to predict how many and the sex of his kids, I got two girls before he pulled his hand away and said it was stupid.

You know what's funny last week I thought that I might be having twins because my jeans were fitting me tight. I thought my belly was growing super fast because of twins. Then my stomach went back down to normal size. I was just bloated lol. I'm new to these forums and was hoping someone can fill me in on what the following mean?
DH=?
DD=?
DS=?
I figured DH is the husband but does is stand for "D"a "H"ubby?
Feel free to fill me in on other abbreviations.

The "D" stands for "dear" and whatever comes next is the family member. DD = Dear Daughter, DS = Dear Son, DH = Dear Husband.
You can use them if you like, or not. I forget sometimes when responding to a post if it was a girl or boy being referred to, because those acronyms (especially since they're so short and all start with D) all look so similar to me, so I tend to avoid using those, because I assume if my brain doesn't process them easily then others' might not either. :wink
But lots of people do use them because they're easier than typing out the word. So it's up to you and your comfort level. :)

Ok so when I was ttc I did a reading with a psychic over the internet and she said it was a boy (I know kind of cheating)...however I'm hoping for a girl, and dh wants a boy so we made a bet. Whoever wins the other person has to do something for the winner. Of course we're happy with whatever it is as long as it is healthy.:)
So I feel kind of embarrassing asking this but what does LO stand for?:o
Also how do you do the needle thing?:)
LionTigerBear
06-11-2008, 07:06 AM
LO = little one.
There are (at least) two ways to do the needle thing. Thread a sewing needle or your wedding ring on a thread and dangel it about 6 inches above your lower tummy (about where the baby energy is) when you are reclining. Hold the thread between your thumb and forefinger and keep your hand as still as possible. If the needle or ring moves in a circle you will have a girl, if it moves in a pendulum motion you will have a boy. If it switches back and forth supposedly you'll have both, I guess.
The other way to do the needle trick is over here (http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/needle.htm).
Gillian28

I did the needle and string test and it was a little itty bitty circle. Although, I'm not convinced that it isn't just me moving it on some sub-conscious level. I might try and get DH to do it cause he may be more objective.
Also, I looked at three Chinese gender predicter charts and all said girl!
Timing-wise we should be having a boy - we dtd on ovulation day. However, I only had a tiny bit of ewcm and it was very hot that week as we were in NC and DH had been doing lots of biking - all things which can boost the odds of having a girl.
So, with everything combined, I think it's a girl. But I would like a girl, so I may be biased. :p

I'm really hoping for a girl, but I'm betting a boy. The Chinese chart says girl. I did the ring test and it went in a circle and then back and forth. Considering I had no morning sickness with my son, and I'm having a lot and early(for me anyways) I'm hoping it's a sign of a girl.

I'm not really getting an intuition about it yet. My grandma and MIL both say girl. The chinese gender chart which was right ALL the other times, says girl. AND the days that we DTD indicate girl except there is a *tiny* chance for a boy, but not much.
Dh says twins but I'm not ready to think about that. :lol I'm going to say girl. If my intuition kicks in before the u/s then I'll come change it.

I cant wait to find out!

06-12-2008, 11:27 AM
Okay, now that I've had a few days to think about it, I say boy. That's my official guess.
The needle test for me starts out going straight back and forth, and then goes in a circle for a second, and then back and forth again. I don't think I'm having twins (or triplets, :lol) because it did that when I was pregnant with Teddy, also, and yeah, it was just one. :lol I think if I had a girl in there as well, that the circle would be more definite and pronounced, yk? 'Cause it is a science you know . . . ;) :lol
So I think it's a boy. My oldest son is convinced it's a girl, though. He was really upset with me when I said it might just be one boy. When we go to the store he picks out girlie things he wants to get "for his babies". It's so cute!!! :love

I should be able to form a guess next week when morning sickness and food tolerances set in. If I gag and think I'll vomit, it's a girl. If I just feel queezie with no gagging, it's a boy and If I wake up at 3am gagging and starving, it's twins.

I've felt like I've had a girl waiting to 'come to us.' I can't really explain it, but that's how I've felt. I felt it before I was pregnant, for almost two years now. We'll see if I'm crazy and it's a boy, or won't know if I'm right or it's a coincidence if it's a girl.
I'm not getting a vibe on twins at all. DS had a twin that didn't develop. My miscarriage was apparently twins. So, I guess it's kinda likely.

DH's family only makes boys, and that's going way back, but I'm hoping for a girl. I promised my MIL before she passed away that I'd do my best to bring some girls into the family. My SIL had to have a hysterectomy after she had her son several years ago, and they have no plans to adopt.
I also would like a girl so we could name her after her, but I figure it will still be a boy.

For some reason I keep thinking of this baby as a boy. It might just be because my last child was a boy and 80% of the babies that I know that have been born in the last two years have been boys. Also, in the long run a boy would be easier for us to manage in our existing house. With three kids, 4 years apart and the oldest a girl, the two boys could share a room until our DD went to college, and that would be just the right time to move my DS into his own space and give him a little privacy to do all the things teenage boys need privacy for.
Based on the likely ovulation and conception dates, however, I would say a girl. A girl would be nice because then my DS, who will go from baby to middle child, would be the only boy and that is a nice, special status for a middle child.
There are some twins in my family, but I am hoping that I don’t have any. We only have one car, and it is only a year and a half old, and I don’t want to buy a new one.
We don’t plan on finding out the sex of this baby before its born, and I am hoping that there aren’t any ultrasounds that are medically necessary. We tried to do the same with our last child, but ended up with an ultrasound due to some bleeding early in the second trimester. There he was, legs wide open, shaking his little parts at us- and it was so obvious. And you know, he still isn’t good at keeping suprises!
In any event, I can’t decide what I think or what I want. A healthy babe is my hearts deepest desire.

I've felt like I've had a girl waiting to 'come to us.' I can't really explain it, but that's how I've felt.
:yeah:
I also have much more gagging and nausea and this time around throwing up. Plus I already feel like I am carrying higher and I have acne this time too. Plus conception times are more likely for a girl. I was half asleep with DS when I heard (maybe my subconscious?) "If you want your girl, go get her."
Plus my intuition and DH's are saying girl too.

I don't have a feeling yet. I'm hoping for a girl so we can be even again. In my last pregnancy I knew I was having a boy although 4 ultrasounds said otherwise. I was right! We're not finding out this time. The surprise was nice last time.

I'm not certain but I've been feeling a boy vibe. My DH is the youngest of 5 boys and most of his cousins are boys too. We conceived with IUI and more boys then girls are conceived that way. We are still debating about finding out the sex. I'd like a surprise but DH wants to know. We'll see!

I went to the deli to get two hardboiled eggs this afternoon. The clerk there is rumored to be psychic--she told my brother she saw a baby near him before I told him I was pg. I said, "you're Amy, right?" "Yes." "What do you think--is it a boy or a girl?" She said, "I'm thinking girl." So that's what I'm going with. I guess it's as scientific as anything else...

My wedding ring and the needle test both said girl but strangely enough, they both went through my previous 5 pregnancies and were correct on my 4 living children but disagreed on the 5th one. My wedding ring said #5 was a girl, the needle said boy. We'll never know for sure.

Girl. This pregnancy has been so different than with my boys. Still not a lot of symptoms, but completely different ones. I was right with both boys from very early on. And I "knew" that ds2 was a boy and then I'd have a girl from about 10 weeks or so, maybe even earlier. I also keep getting a little voice in my head making words plural on me every time (baby - babies) which is weird. I don't know if it's just my mind playing tricks or if there's any possibility it's twins. I wanted twin girls since I was about 10.

I just realized that I never replied to this very long thread.
I really go back and forth and don't have a strong feeling either way. This pregnancy seems alot different to me than my previous 4. I have 3 living sons and I lost a baby at 12 weeks. All 4 of those pregnancies followed the same pattern of M/S. I still have morning sickness, but it's all over the map. I even have times where I feel pretty good, and I don't remember that with the other 4.
I have also had alot of pimples showing up on my face and arms. I don't remember that with my others either.
I was having a strong feeling it was a girl, but that strong feeling is gone now, and I am back not being sure. And I can't say it's wishful thinking, because I would be thrilled with another boy!
