I wanted to make this an anonymous poll, to see if we might get more UC and hospital birthers counted this way. Just curious!

I can't answer.
My hoping, idealist side says: home with a midwife
My pragmatic, realist side says: hospital with a midwife
My pessimistic side says: this one isn't going to last.

Hopefully in the hospital with a high risk ob (as long as I don't m/c again). I have had 8 m/c's and am on daily fragmin injections, daily low dose aspirin, progesterone, natural supplements, and go for acupuncture so I'm hoping everything works but all of that combined with my history (of m/c's, hemorrhaging while m/c'ing, and complications with DD's pregnancy) means the midwives here won't even consider taking me as a patient.
In an ideal world I would love to have a healthy low risk pregnancy with a home water birth but I'll be happy with a pregnancy that results in a healthy baby at this point! :wink

I see it now :thumb
I voted UC... which today is what I am leaning towards. I really don't know when I'll make my final decision, I waver so much between homebirth with or without the midwives there.
The good news is I have lots of time :lol

In a hugely medicalized research hospital with a perinatologist. Not exactly the homebirth I dreamed of, but it's what I have to do because of a medical condition (now, I'd *love* to rent out a hotel room next to the hospital since I'm an hour away from the hospital, and then stay there to labor until almost time to push...I may consider that to avoid the cascade of interventions).

Oh mama! :dust:dust:dust
Thank you. Yeah, I'm feeling very anxious about this. But I did have some tweaks of nausea so at least I'm starting to feel it a little.

I wanted to have my last dd at home. I was in the process of switching mw's as mine cannot attend home births when I realized my dd died. So my regular mw took care of me in the hospital for the delivery. She was so good to me over the 24 hours I was there I don't feel like I could have anyone else deliver my babies.
Soooo having said that, as much as I want a home birth I don't think can leave my mw. I will probably deliver in a hospital with her.

I voted for homebirth! My last pregnancy was completely normal and healthy, so I don't forsee any reason why we won't be doing just that about 9 months from now :).

I am planning my third home waterbirth with a wonderful midwife who assisted me with the birth of my third son. :love

In a hospital with a high risk OB.
My last baby was born at home and it was wonderful but I after 3 losses and a diagnosed clotting disorder I am officially high risk.
I am on heparin 2x daily plus aspirin and am just praying that I stay pregnant this time.

What I want & what I can afford are two totally different things. I would like to have a homebirth with a midwife, but I'm probably going to have prenatal care by an ob then have an UC here at home.

probably in a hospital, dh feels more comfortable there. I would love a homebirth, at this point though we are still researching our options :)

As long as all goes well I will be at home with the same midwife I had for both my girls.

In a hospital (with jacuzzi tubs in every birthing suite!) with my ob. I really really like him, and that's all that insurance will cover.

Mmmm, jacuzzi tubs sound GOOOOD. That's what I want too, so we're lookign to move into a place with a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. :thumb

At home with a midwife. I've come to realize home is the only place I can expect to have any chance of a VBAC. The local birth center midwives don't do VBACs and the local hospital midwives will only let you try for a VBAC if you show up at the hosptial already 8-9 cm dilated, and even then it would probably be a fight. So even though I never dreamed I would have a homebirth, it's looking like that's what we're going to do! DH is being surprisingly supportive of the idea, too, even though he knows that getting insurance to pay for it will probably be an uphill battle.

i'm delivering with a midwife in a hospital with same room labor, delivery and recovery, and baby and husband can stay in the room with me. and private bathrooms with showers (and tubs on request, i think). my husbands REALLY not comfortable with the idea of a home birth (worried about me and the baby if something should go wrong) and i guess if i'm honest, i'm a little scared about the whole thing too.....
I'll be at the hospital with an OB. I'd prefer a midwife at a birth center, but that isn't an option around here.

I put other b/c I don't know yet. I've always had an OB and really liked him, but I'm interviewing a midwife group on Friday. It will be a hospital birtht hough.

I would love to be able to do a birth center birth, but sadly, they won't take me. I may end up doing the hotel room by the hospital route.

We'll be at the hospital having a c-section. I do use the midwives for care, and one will be there at the hospital with the doctor they work with for the birth. I've had two c/s and my midwife practice will not do a vba2c.

I'll be VBACing with a doc that's way more midwifey than the MWs in my area...

DH and I are interviewing our first midwife tomorrow and the second on Friday. The midwife I was originally planning to go with had something come up and she has to leave town. :( Too bad, since she's the only CNM in town that does hb's. The others are licensed midwives.
I've been researching hb's for the last few years, since we've been TTC. I'm glad because DH is totally on board and I wouldn't want to have to convince him after getting pg.
I'm totally excited for our homebirth!

Right now I am doing everything I can to make a homebirth happen. We have our second appointment with the midwives in a few weeks.

:Hug :Hug :Hug I know just how you feel. TBH, I can't even think about birth plans, baby names, and stuff like that. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to be three months pregnant, or four. One day at a time, right?

Yes. I'm easing into it a little, mostly because I made it to two missed periods.

I am hoping for a homebirth. Last time I planned to be in a birthing center, but my water broke with meconium in it and my contractions were still light and 10-15 mins apart 12 hours later, so I had to get pitocin. I believe I can have a normal healthy labor if I don't have meconium again, though, and am looking forward to trying.
Although this time I'll make sure I'm okay with the hospital backup! I just hated the hospital experience, especially postpartum, and it was definitely much worse than it had to be because it was a crappy hospital.
My DH is in favor of homebirth but reluctant to lie to his dad (who's a retired pediatrician) about it. I think lying is what it will take - we'll just tell our parents that the baby came so fast we didn't make it to the hospital. But DH doesn't want to lie to his dad, and with the AMA's recent strong statement against homebirth I think that will mean trouble.

Well, I thought at first that I would birth in the hospital with a midwife like my last two then I went for my first mw appt. on Friday and that hospital has closed its maternity ward and my mw has no other hospital priveleges. She is looking for other positions and is suggesting that we find another option. I really loved my mw and although we had thought about homebirth before (DD #1 was suppose to be a homebirth until that midwife-a different one-dropped us at the hospital for basically taking too long :angry) but we liked our mw so much that we were okay with hospital birth. And it was a really great hospital-they left us alone, no interventions and I got to leave as soon as I wanted after birth :thumb.
But the exciting news is that now I am going to have a homebirth! :joy: I'm very excited. We are interviewing midwives this week so wish us luck.

Wish I had options! Based on what I've learned so far, it seems my insurance only covers hospital birth expenses...which in this town means an OB for me (fortunately, he's very willing to accomodate my wishes).

Homebirth...we are paying for it ourselves too since our insurance also doesn't cover homebirthing. Its only $1800 which is pretty close to how much we would be paying for a hospital birth with the 80/20 split anyway. We are using the same HB midwife I used for my youngest dd birth...she caught a life threatening complication in time and saved dd life! I totally trust her! Its not a complication that is likely to repeat but it will be a VBAC...

Ugh..I don't know..I voted hospital with a midwife, but I don't even know yet if I get a midwife, and if I don't frankly I'm thinking about moving to a cave and doing my own prenatal care :irked:
I know for sure I will not be inviting my mil to the birth this time. While I'm glad I did last time, she was happy to see her first grandchild being born, it's not something I want to repeat. She was great and everything, I just didn't realize how much I hate having people around until I was in so much pain I couldn't have said anything anyway.

I'm voting home with midwife. We had DS at home and it was phenomenal. I definitely plan the same this time, though we now live 1600 miles away from our beloved midwives. We have three or four to choose from here and two are solidly "NO"s after interviewing them during my m/c pregnancy. I think we know which one we will use, though.
:hug to you mamas that can't have the homebirths you want. :hug
I'll be at a hospital with a doctor who specializes in maternity care (NOT an ob/gyn). She works in a practice with 5 other women and one of them will be there during labour/birth -- they work a rotating call schedule.
It's my first baby and I'm bordering on high risk. With my next I will either have a midwife, if this pregnancy goes fine (and it's covered, as by then I'll be living in a different city/province) or a Dr. again if there are any complications

i'll birth at home. I have a midwife at the moment.
with my second the midwives didn't arrive until he was crowning and i felt pretty capable. if they hadn't arrived, things would have been ok.
we'll see how things go this time.
