Any one else high-risk?

I have a blood clotting disorder. I have to take heparin (lovenox) shots 2x a day and a bunch of extra doctors appts.

My Dr has put me into the highrisk catagory for the first few months, but only because of how long it has taken me to get pregnant. If there are no issues after the first few months I guess I will be reduced to regular, but for right now Im being checked up on every week, and on hormones....

I'll be 40 when the baby's born, so my "advanced maternal age" makes me high risk-ish.

Though when Winnie was born, I was over 35 so in the AMA range, and all that meant was insurance paid for us to meet with a genetic counselor and have a more indepth u/s. They would've paid for an amnio but we declined it.

And the nice thing about that u/s was it was perfect timing to learn the gender (which I wanted to know as I like being prepared).

The main reason we're not doing a home birth is not because of my age though (as I'm in good physical health and really think the age thing is very arbitrary), but because we live way far out and it would take a while to get to a hospital and the closest one is scary. So we'll be going back to the women's center for delivery (unless things go much faster this time), with my midwife in attendance, and a doula to help advocate.

I am... And not because I've had a stillbirth and a miscarriage--those put me in the "panic frantic pregnant woman" category. I also have something called essential thrombocythemia that I was diagnosed 2 years ago--basically, my platelet count is about 1.5 million (normal is under 400,000) so my risk of clotting and hemmorage is higher than normal. My miscarriage was likely due to a clot. There's also a risk of IUGR and other not so fun stuff... So, I'm taking baby aspirin every other day (I have to be really careful not to thin the blood too much or the hemmorage thing comes into play) and I'll likely have some extra ultrasounds and the like...

Hi Elizabeth,

I have a clotting disorder as well (lupus anticoagulant) and am also on heparin shots and aspirin. This is pregnancy #6 for me with 2 children and 3 miscarriages. This is my first time on heparin and I am praying it works.

I am on fragmin injections, progesterone, daily low dose aspirin, going for acupuncture, and taking natural supplements recommended by my naturopath so I am also high risk and see a maternal fetal medicine specialist, no midwife for me even though I would love to try a home birth if the situation wasn't what it is. This is pregnancy #10 and DD was pregnancy #5 so 4 m/c's before DD and 4 more since, the fragmin is the new thing we're trying this time and hopefully it's working.

I also had some complications with DD so even once I get past the first trimester I can relax a little but I still have a lot of worries. :o
