lotusdebi told me to post in finding your tribe, and ask the moms and their hubbies if anyone in the MD/DC area would need a 'computer guy'.

My job is probably going away. :(

Specifically, I'm a 'UNIX systems administrator' (read: one of the trolls that makes the internet work), have about 9 years or so experience in computers and systems administration, know at least something about linux, freebsd, solaris, irix, hp/ux, macs, and even windows, and a whole bunch of other acronyms that would make this look like my cat sneezed on the keyboard.

If anyone happens to know of someone who needs someone such as me (really, the mileage doesn't even show!), PM either me or lotusdebi.

Man, where were you when I needed you a year ago? You coulda teleworked and everything!

There are lots of little non-profit community networks who need on-call Unix/Linux administration work but can't afford a full-timer. I sense a business opportunity. Check out the Association for Community Networking.

Lots of the auxiliary applications CNs run (BBs and account management stuff) are run off different platforms/servers than the rest. I know a few that have abandoned entire expensive applications because they couldn't find anybody to administer the Unix side of things as needed. (Too many Windows weenies out there.)

It also seems small businesses are looking for help with webpage database integration. I keep hearing about people looking for somebody to help with PHP/SQL combos.
