View Full Version : first cycle after miscarriage - shortened LP?

I usually have a 15-16 day luteal phase, and this first cycle after the miscarriage it was only 9 days. I know my cycle might be off because of the miscarriage, and everything, but I figured that meant I might ovulate late, but I thought LP's didn't change that much? And since a short one can indicate an issue with conceiving, I guess I am a bit concerned.

I won't be super concerned unless it happens next cycle too, but just wondering if this is common in any way. It kept me to only a bit over my normal cycle length (30 days) but I figured the LP was supposed to be the thing not to change that much.

anyone else have this issue? did your next cycle have a longer LP? I'm even drinking a tea w/ vitex and everything.

I had a short luteal phase with my first cycle after my loss. It was 10 days, and I was also a bit concerned. My second cycle was like my "normal" ones, at 14 days.

Updating: In my third cycle, my LP was 13 days.

I was clockwork before the miscarriage, but it took a couple months to get a longer LP. I ended up with some around 10-11 days and now it's gotten back to normal without a lot of effort. I know I was ovulating (had a chemical a couple of months ago) but it keeps getting better.

Don't worry too much. Things will start working better in time.

I've had short LPs since I gave birth. For first cycle, LP was 4 days, next cycle was 9-day LP. I'm hoping that my third cycle will be closer to my normal. I think it takes some time for your hormones to get back to normal.

My LP is always 14 days but after my m/c in february I had 2 back to back 10 day ones, followed by a 14 day LP and then I got PG again the next cycle.

So, while disconcerting, I think what is happening to you sounds perfectly normal.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Good luck to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My cycle after miscarriage was irregular. It was actually longer than usual, which had me testing and completely confused by BFNs. From what others told me at the time it just takes a bit of time to get back to regularity.

((hugs)) I wish you the best.

How interesting. My luteal phase was 9 days with my first cycle after my miscarriage this past June. I am not in my second cycle since the loss and I hope it gets longer. Best wishes!

I had a short LP for the first cycle after both m/cs - you can see my charts in my signature.

Mine was that way too. We were trying again right away after the m/c and I got all excited when I saw a little pink streaking at day 10. I thought for sure it was implantation spotting, which I had never had before.

But then by the next morning it got REALLY heavy. It was my heaviest period I've ever had. I use a diva cup, and every 2 hours or so it was leaky and full for the first 4 days.

Luckily, the next one was completely back to normal. Hopefully it'll all fall back in to place for you too.

Just updating. I also edited my first post on this thread. In my third cycle after my loss, LP was 13 days.

Prior to my m/c my cycles were 30 days, like clockwork! My LP has overall been much shorter for me since my loss. The first 2 cycles it was only 9-10 days with random spotting. The next few cycles were a little longer but still only 12 day LP so I am starting up Fertility Blend this cycle hoping that eventually it can lengthen the LP a bit. We've been timing BDing perfectly and still nothing so it can only help!

its good to hear that this isn't so unusual! Just after reading so many things about charting that say your LP is so unchanging (though you can lengthen it, I suppose, with progesterone and vitex, etc) I was surprised to see this happen.

This month the jury is still out as to whether its normal this month, my ovulation was late again (first cycle after the m/c was day 20, this one, day 17, I am usually days 11-14) I am noticing though that my LP temps this month are bizarrely high, and my thermal shift was much more abrupt than normal (a full degree, in one day)

I wish there was more information on what a m/c exactly does to your body - even though I know its different for everyone, it would have been nice to read a bit about the range of reactions and maybe some guesses as to why, or how to minimize certain responses, etc. If only my field of research was biology instead of optical engineering :)

so thanks for chiming in on your experiences! It helps to know that others got back to normal eventually.

It is crazy that I just saw this thread, because I just posted about this in my thread. I just got AF for the first time since my m/c and my LP was 3 days shorter. I was wondering if it was normal, but I guess that it is. I actually ovulated earlier this time by a couple of days and then had a shorter LP. I was ready to move on to the next cycle, so I was pretty happy, but I don't want to have short LP's either. It was still 13 days though, so I think that is still okay, isn't it? I'm drinking Fertiltea now so maybe it will straighten out.

Good luck to you all!

My LP was short with spotting after my miscarriage - only rectified itself on the 6th cycle when I did stuff like some major supps, b6 and acupuncture.

mine looks like its at least getting somewhat back to normal - its now at least going to be 14 days (day 13 today) its nice, since I am waiting to test also, and each day is good news since even if I am not pregnant its nice to see that my cycle is a bit more normal for me.

I did take maca regularly this cycle, which may have helped. My temps were much more distinctive also - lower pre-O, and higher post-O.
