I can't believe it's August already.
Tiff, we love O2U too! The raspberries and cherries were immediately devoured by the girls. I managed to eat about 6. They were so excited too. Did you get Lamb's Quarters? I've never had them, nor even heard of them but I'm going to put them into a quiche. We also got 2 bunches of kale. I'm not the biggest kale fan. I need good ideas for it. Lee brought a yummy kale salad to Kate's once. Maybe the key is mincing it up really fine? I toasted some to make it crispy and it was good like that, but nobody else would eat it and I could only eat so much of it.

I have some other stuff to reply to but it will have to wait. I want to share what happened today while I have a chance. I don't even know where to start. We were rear ended in the Benz. Just the baby and me. We are OK, but I am quite sore. I am worried about how I will feel tomorrow. The entire back was smashed in and I was hit into the person in front of me. I was in complete shock and just kept saying "oh my god" over and over. The keys were knocked out of the ignition, so I had to find them to even turn off the car. Then I couldn't get the back door open at first. I must have had that super mommy power going because I yanked it to get the baby and it opened. Then it wouldn't even come close to closing. It was like two inches off! The entire back window shattered, and there were pieces of glass in Akasha's carseat! But miraculously there wasn't a scratch on her! Ron drove right over. He said the entire frame is bent, and that means they are going to have to total it. I am so sad about this. There goes our
biodiesel car. :( I am also worried about if this is going to affect my back. It would be a bummer to not be able to babywear, but it will be terrible as I think we are going to move and I need to pack. This is enough stress for our family. I feel like I am at the breaking point.

Is Lisa not feeling well? Besides the financial stuff? Lisa, I have been meaning to ask you what exactly does Ron do/is he looking for? Sean wants to know and I only know its tech related.
I am having a really challenging week. I think its transitioning from being home from vacation, at least, I hope its not becoming a pattern of contrariness around here. We had a tough time at griffin oaks the other day, I won't be going back there for awhile. Its a fine park but the girls will remember the conflicts we had there and might repeat them. My children were running through a public park with no clothes on and their bodies mostly covered in mud, with no regard to my chasing them all over and using my sternest voice. There were not unsafe (not near roads) but totally out of control. So I am taking a break from wide open spaces for a little while. Sorry we missed you that day, Eliza, I must have missed you by just a minute or two. Glad you got the keys today!
Oh, and could you all keep my niece in your thoughts this weekend? She is being induced tonight and her baby will likely be in the NICU for awhile. I might be going to see her while in labor tomorrow, if she wants me there. I am actually looking forward to attending a potentially traumatic labor over another day with my kids. I need a break that badly. Although I wonder how I will hold up, I have never attended a birth besides my own.
ETA: Double posted with you Lisa, omg, that is so scary! Let us know if you need anything.

I hear ya on the park, thing, Kate. I have been taking a break from it for the same reason. I just can't handle feeling helpless anymore. Next time, we go, James has to come with us, cuz she just won't listen to me. And yes, I totally recommend a break..even short ones. It always does wonders for me in the patience department.

Oh geez Lisa! Can we get you to a chiropractor? Do you have anyone you like around here? (Anita Stephan?) We're not exactly rolling in dough either, but if you make an appointment for the two of you, I can make sure it gets paid for.
And yes, although we just recycled a bunch, I think we do still have moving boxes. I'm gone most of next week, but I can probably make it out Monday to help with whatever you need (and maybe watch Orion while you see a chiro?).

:hug that sounds so scary! I hope you're ok! If the other person was at fault you should be able to get their insurance to cover some chiro care for you (and a check up for Akasha just to be safe, if you want) I worked for a few chiro's who did personal injury cases, you ought to able to get at least some care with no out of pocket expense upfront.

My last post needed to be by itself. :D Thanks for all the good wishes mamas and for the phone calls Marian, Angie, Summer and Kristin! I am doing OK today. My back is still hurting, but I thought it would be worse to be honest. I found out Zenana takes insurance now for massage, so I may try to do that.
And from last month...
Lisa my memory is CRAP these days and i cant remember if i gave you Morgans email address for Ron to send his Resume to. did i?
You did give it to me, but Ron had not sent it yet. I bugged him today and he sent it over. :)
Does Ron code at all? Gary's work is looking for a couple software guys.
I think he can, but it is not his forte and he hates it. :lol That other job looks promising though. He re-sent his resume today.
So are you for sure moving then?
I could kick down some products that might help with the sleeplessness and headaches if you want.
It looks like about 99% for sure. The problem is when.... Right now we will be battling Ron not having a job, but later our credit will be in the dumps. I saw a place today that we are going to try and apply for if the owner says she will work with us. There are neigbors close by who have chickens and a goat!
Lisa and Kristin, do you think toddler LLL will still be on for Thursday?
It should be on! I need to look at the topics to see if we want to do August or if the July one we skipped looks more fun.
I'm sorry I don't have any idea about chickens, but I wanted to let you know that I'm a pro at moving. We moved to a new state to a house I'd never even seen in person, and I packed my house mostly by myself in about 3 weeks with a 7 month old, and got rid of almost half the stuff we owned. So if you want help/advice/support I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Thanks! I am actually pretty good myself. It is just the doing it with an infant part that seems daunting. I am going to see what I can get done on my own for now since we don't even know when, but if it gets down to a few weeks and there is alot left, I will be looking for all the help I can get!

I'm so happy to be home! I was gone for 29 hours at a birth. Oh man, talk about emotionally draining. I was crying last night, because I was so exhausted, and missing my babies. I texted Brian at 11PM, and said how bad I felt, and that I wanted to come home. He said, "Don't worry. The kids are fine. Just do your thing, see that baby being born, and come home to us." :heartbeat
I couldn't sleep the whole time, I think because I have never slept away from the kids like that before. I couldn't stop thinking of them, and by the end, I was a big, tired emotional mess. Crazy what lack of sleep will do to you! But I came home at 4AM, snuggled everyone in bed, and all was well. Oliver was definitely happy to have his boobs back! :)
Hope everyone has a good Sunday! I've gotta figure out breakfast! We are all starving. :eat: Ciara's tummy growled, and she laughed and said, "My tummy farted!" :lol

Births are draining! I had 3 in two weeks once, one client went 6 weeks early other went 2 weeks later and then I was covering for someone. It was so hard and draining. I missed the boys so bad too and Henry was still occasionally nursing so I had to have my mom bring my pump cause I was gone for so long. I'm glad you were able to help her out though!!
And ditto new babies :joy:
Oh and I know Janna isn't on here anymore but Killian could use some good thoughts he is in the hospital with a strange blood infection. We went to Sauvies Thursday and the boys swam for hours. Well all they can think of what happened was he had a bug bite and the dirty river water go into his blood stream. Scary stuff. He's going to be ok but its such a freak thing! And we had such a good time and both the dads are saying no more to going back. :( But yeah just think good recovery thoughts for him.

Yes, they were doing well. They had a lot of family members there though, it was very crowded. I thought they should be resting and bonding but whatevs. That is not the only difference between me and my niece.
Can I just say its a weird dynamic that my niece is now a parent? This is the same generation as Ruby and Nora (they are first cousins, so the new baby is my kids' second cousin). So my niece is more like a SIL to me. She was one of my bridesmaids when we got married, when she was 14, and me and Sean were her guardians from age 16-18. Her mom (Sean's sister) is a grandma and she under 40. It feels like a kid having a kid eventhough she is an adult!
Good thoughts going out to Killy too, he is such a sweet kid, I hope he gets better soon.

Couple quick things.
I heard from Kacie. Sounds like she did mean permanently, but everything is OK. Just sounded like she wanted to focus her time on other things. :)
And the LLL meeting.... Since we skipped July, we have a choice between Nighttime Challenges and Toddler Behavior. Any preferences?
We seem to be OK following the accident. I went to a doctor today and she referred me for physical therapy. I will probably give Anita a call too. The hard part is figuring out how to schedule everything with the baby in tow. Thanks to the awesome Angie doing pick up and the amazing Rabbit, I am being offered a carseat replacement for the baby! I am guessing it is one of the baby bucket types since it only goes to 20 pounds. We have a convertible type right now. I have never used one of those "pop outs". So at least I will have that for her to hang out in if necessary. The actual adjustment part is usually really fat.

Who wouldn't flirt with Amira!? She's so beautiful :love

:lol, Ciara's so funny!
It is nice to come home to your amazing family, isn't it, after 29 hours of hard, exhausting but such important work. :hug
Kate, Congratulations to your neice and you. Yay for a healthy baby boy! :joy:
I'll be thinking of Killian. Hope he feels better soon.
Aimee, I have been there, with thrush so I feel for you. Hope it goes away asap! Eat lots of yogurt!

Lisa, sorry to hear about the accident, glad that everyone's OK, but I think you could get them to pay to replace whatever car seat you had. My friend was in a car accident with her baby in the car and the insurance company asked her what type of seat she had and just sent her a check for replacement carseat, no questions asked. She told me after that she wished that she had told them it was a Britax, she could have gotten more money. :lol But I actually thought it was much easier to go places when Malia was little, she would sleep in her car seat pretty much everywhere, not like now, I had a Gyn appt and had to take her with me last week, she sat in the stroller thankfully but by the end, she was DONE!

Yes, this is totally true. Our insurance company made us go and purchase a new one the day of the accident. They just took the money out of our deductible. We then had to give the seat that was in the accident to the adjuster to make sure it was not used any more.

Lisa, wow, how scary about your accident!
I'm pretty sure DH's work is looking for IT people too. His team is short a few people. www.careers.laika.com (http://www.careers.laika.com) Don't know if Ron has checked them out yet.
Aimee, sorry to hear about your boob! I think my sis might have thrush too. She said she gets a sharp shooting pain through the middle of her boob. The baby has a few white spots in her mouth, but her doc says it is just some glands forming or something and that it's normal.
She has had horrible luck. Her stitches are finally feeling better but about a week ago she popped out with a bad PUPPS rash. You're supposed to get that while pregnant, but a few unlucky souls get it after the baby is born. I made some baking soda paste and frosted her body with it like a human birthday cake. It was kind of fun.
Kate, :joy:yay for being an auntie! I bet it is pretty weird seeing her become a mother since you helped raise her. Sounds like the birth was pretty trying. Did she want to be induced? My sis was close to 2 weeks "overdue". I'm SO glad she said no induction. She said her doc told her the placenta would "expire". Like old milk? :lol
Sending love to Killian. Poor little dude! He is SO sweet. I hope he is well soon.
:wave to Kacie.
I haven't been on MDC much either lately. And actually, it kinda feels good. We have been doing lots of camping and spending time with family, and I'm trying to get ready for my fun Vegas weekend, but not over plan it. I think of all of y'all often, but I haven't been checking the thread so much.

Oops, didn't see this quote there. I think that is really cool that the insurance company cared enough to make sure the old seat was out of the loop!

I found that pirate park yesterday and I love it! There is not that running off potential cause its such a fun park. Keep cool today ladies!
Nadine, my niece was only 37 weeks but had to get induced for medical reasons, so not much choice, but she was done being pregnant so she was okay with it. She had a really hard pregnancy and has a bad back so she was relieved to be done.

We are going to miss the playdate tomorrow.

Yes, pirate park is called bethany meadows park, I believe. Its hard to find, I tried once before and couldn't find it. Then I had specific directions and still had to ask a neighbor on the street. But its worth it. I will miss that park date too, we are going to SF that weekend and fly out on Thursday. The only other one I will make soon is Jamison Sq.
Pirate park: From Springville, its a right on Sickle and a left on Graf (I think). Then you park on the street under the power lines and take a paved path through the wetlands, over a bridge, and up a hill. You can't see if from the street. Bring sand toys, the sand/water feature can be messy too.
Magnolia (the new one with water feature), Hillsboro ~ Wed Aug 6th
Jamison Square, Pearl District, Portland ~ Thurs Aug 14th
Bethany Meadows Park, NW Portland ~ Thurs Aug 21st
Shute Park, Hillsboro ~ Thurs Aug 28th
Anyone interested in changing Shute Park? Would anyone be more interested if it were a better park? We could do another water park, or Rood Bridge instead. Shute Park is really crowded.

Hey everyone,
It's just occurred to me that I need to find a nanny or babysitter NOW to take over when my current babysitter goes back to high school in the fall. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or leads for me. I am looking for someone probably 2 days a week, I'm not sure of the days and can be somewhat flexible, it depends on what classes I sign the kids up for. It's mostly for Malia, who's 18 months old now, but also for Mateo, who's 4, but is going to school 4 afternoons a week. Ideally, the person would also be willing to do some light housework on the days that I don't have a lot of work to do. I'd consider an in-home daycare for Malia as well and then wing it for Mateo. Anyone know anyone who might fit the bill here?
The only thing that sucks about working part-time is finding someone to watch my kids!

We heard a couple fly nearish this afternoon, and the first one scared Cameron, he started crying and trying to climb in my lap (I was trying to pee at the time, so this was a bit difficult :lol) I was like, it's just a really loud airplane and he looks at me like he doesn't believe me, then says "aypay" (don't you love toddler speak?) "louw aypay? ohhhhhh, uh-huh" then he laughed the other times we heard them, banging on the door hollering louw aypay at the top of his lungs. He cracks me up.

Cutest kid in the world updates: He's started going up and down stairs, by himself, without using his hands. :bawl :happyt: And he's started making sentences: When we got in the car at the end of one day, he said "Mama? Mama dada car." Just to let us know we were all in the car together. And when he was at the hotel with Gary (I was at the office - they had visited me earlier for lunch), he started asking for me, and said "Dada? Mama car." 'Cause he wanted to come see me in the car again, and he's a genius. :D

I hate those jets & nearly had a coronary when that first when flew over. :bigeyes Now when I hear them in the distance I get all anxious & worried they're going to get loud like that again. Yucky. Nadine, I'm sorry I never answered you when you asked me what could be planted in the garden during last month's thread. I meant to come back & list things but I just never had the chance. I'm sorry!
And Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about the stressors in your life lately! :( I so hope things start looking up for you & Ron. And speaking of things I MEANT to go back & comment on, way back in your journal you were talking about the "sparing the rod" comment in the Bible & how your Jehovah's Witness friend (or whoever it was) said that she imagined the rod being a shepard's staff that just *guided* the kids..... anyway, I always wanted to say that that is what I was taught all my life as well. That the "rod" meant a shepard's staff gently guiding the sheep through life, and I was raised JW as well! AND, I wanted to tell you about this awesome book I found at the Hillsboro library! I love this book so much that we've ordered a copy & I'm going to use it this school year, one lesson per week. It was written by the Sunday school teacher at Ananda in Portland! Here it is:
I Came From Joy (http://www.amazon.com/Came-Spiritual-Affirmations-Activities-Children/dp/1565891465/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218344253&sr=1-1) I wanted to mention it to you in case you wanted to utilize it since you guys didn't get into Living Wisdom. Or if you were looking for a book like that. Or maybe you already know all about it & own 10 copies! :blah :blah :)
You guys, I went to the GREATEST garage sale in Hillsboro today!!! :lol I got soooo much stuff! Just saying hi!
So how are you liking the new place?

It's nice. I like having room to breathe, you know? Also, having my own bathroom is quite nice.
Once we get everything unpacked, I have room for my altar!! Right now I just have my candles and "Lilith's Box" (which I guess is technically now Lilith and Selene's Box) on my bathroom counter.

Yes, breathing room is very very good. That's fabulous that you'll have a place for your altar.

Yay! I so dislike only having one bathroom to share. Technically, only two of us really use it, but still! I always have to go right after dh decides to. that's just how it works. :shrug :lol

Hey Aimee! Was thinking about Killian today and wondering if he is OK?
And Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about the stressors in your life lately! :( I so hope things start looking up for you & Ron. And speaking of things I MEANT to go back & comment on...
AND, I wanted to tell you about this awesome book I found at the Hillsboro library!

:lol I always get a kick out of the way your energy comes over in your writing! Thanks for the good thoughts. You and Ron should have some JW recovery talks! It was my MIL btw. She is still big time into it.
AND, I don't have that book! I will have to put it on my wanted list. :)
:tsk You need to give my blog some comment love. It is sad with it's one lonely comment!
I'm working on a super fantastic Life Management Binder ;)
I gave your blog some love. :love I need me one of them binders. One of these days....
How was everyone's weekend?
Anyone up for jamison sq on thursday?
I pretty much researched and looked at rentals. I think we have settled on one in the Bethany area. :joy: It is really close to 185th though. Seems more like Rock Creek to me. Right on the way to the pirate park if you are coming from the WWWS. :W
I want to try to go to Jamison. I am the one who suggested it after all. :lol And we haven't been yet this summer. It is supposed to be a scorcher though. I am going to have to get moving in the morning for once.
Big Truck Day is Saturday! 10-2 at Conestoga Recreation Center so much fun, you all have to go.
Now that is something for the calendar!
In other news... I took Akasha to Dr. Valerie for allergy testing.... Wouldn't you know it - wheat and dairy just like her brother.
Oh, and I like the jets too. We also went to see Dr. Anita, after Claudia's 17 cents, as she said. :lol (She called me like 3 times I think). It was Friday and she is on Cornell. There were all kinds of folks hanging out on the street watching. We got a couple good looks at the jets. Orion was so excited, but he kept calling them jetto planes for some reason. :lol

Hey Aimee! Was thinking about Killian today and wondering if he is OK?
Yes, he's all better. What a freak thing! He was in the hospital for a day or two on IV abx. Now he's pretty much healed and being a normal 7 year old.
Check out my blog for our newest baby. She came to us from a lab rescue after she was a pitbulls playtoy. Badly beaten and open wounds when the rescue got her, she's all healed now. Pretty sad. She's very skiddish but has really bonded to me. We love her so much. Today is our home inspection and then we sign the contract that she's ours! I can't wait!! I finally have a girl in my house!! :joy:

She's probably a totally different kid around someone she wouldn't know. Paul is that way. At school he is quiet, shy and never talks back. Here, yeah total opposite. There are some places that have scholarships. Wouldn't hurt to try. Just maybe give her a change of scenery for a day or two a week. Even classes at the YMCA or something similiar.

honestly, i wouldnt mind her going to a class or two for a little bit each week. i would have to look all around for places with scholarships for us po' folk. :lol but it might be worth it.
when she is with Jen and T-Bone she is an angel. but J is fun and has lots of fun cool stuff to play with and do, and has fun cool kid like snack foods, etc, cause J has the $ to make that happen.
we have to make do with some old crayons, some warn out markers, and printer paper, and dont have those fun foods, just whats in the cupboards and fridge.

i need something i can take her to on the bus wed-fri, cause Dh is off mon and tues.
yeah, my expectations are high, needs to be close to the bus, must be CHEAP or free (think less than $25), must not be punitive, must be able to handle her explosions in a compassionate and kind manner, montessori or semi waldorf-like, must let me hang with Niamh and volunteer if i can, if not it should be somewhat close to something i could do with Niamh.
yeah its a tall order to fill.

I was thinking the same thing..
Tiff, I know one of my friends had her daughter enrolled in a Montessori school and the parents did enough fundraising to have a couple full scholarships to offer. She lives in SW Portland. I'm not sure which school it is, but it's probably in SW, which isn't so close to you.
There is also head start. It's free. I don't know if they are punitive or not. I suspect it completely depends on the teacher. I don't think they have a policy on time-outs. When I worked there, (7 or 8 years ago) we would have kids sit with one of the adults if they were being disruptive, or there was another room they could go to if they needed to throw pillows and kick trash cans. Mostly we tried to know each kid and prevent disruptive behaviors before they happened. But I worked in the full day classroom, where preschool kids were there all day, and lots of them had some issues.
:hug I hope you find something soon.
36 hrs till I fly away to Vegas to meet my girlfriend from MN and have a weekend of fun and freedom and :champagne:drink:balloons:carrot:firedevil!!!!!!

Have fun Nadine!
That is a tough order to fill, Tiff, but I can obviously see why you need all those things to fall into place. CCC would probably not be a good fit for you cause they don't allow siblings while you are parent helper. Last year Lisa watched Nora for me so it was great having someone I trust watch her but it was still tough cause Nora cried a lot. Your discipline stuff would fit right in at CCC. Sounds similar to how Nadine described Head Start. The do more of a time-in if someone is being disruptive. And anything discipline related is handled calmly and compassionately. I can give more examples if you want. But Ruby likes to test rules and they were always gentle in guiding her.

Can you tell me more about the big truck day Ellie or Minta? Is it indoor? Does it get crowded. I suggested this to Sean as an outing for him and the girls and if its not a great fit it will be all my fault, of course. I assume its outdoor and I think it'll be pretty hot on Saturday.
Speaking of, I can't make it to Jamison tomorrow, it will be too dang hot for me. I won't get my act together early enough to catch the cool morning.
Ell-Bell
08-14-2008, 10:24 AM
Last year was our first year of Big Truck Day. Everything is outdoors. There are tons of trucks, each one "manned" by someone who can tell you about it. There are lines to climb up inside them. the kids can drive, honk the horns, and get their picture taken. There is also an area where there is a small playground and people selling snacks, sno-cones, popcorn, etc. I think there is some free stuff, too... I vaguely remember Max getting a little yellow construction hat. They can pick and choose which trucks they want to go in, some have longer lines than others. We got there pretty late- like 1:30 (ends at 2:00) and there weren't lines at all to many trucks so Max could just go in or wait for one or two people, that's it. I suspect this year he'll want to go in more trucks so we'll be getting there early this year, probably right at opening. They can go in the back of the ambulance, sit in the seats of the schoolbus, etc.
I would think Sean would like it if the girls have any interest in trucks of any kind. They even have a garbage truck. The only thing would be the lines, I'm not sure how bad they get during the peak time, but If you start with some less popular trucks I don't think they would be that bad.
KateMary
08-14-2008, 11:09 AM
Thanks Ellie, that sounds fun and Sean likes doing "boyish" things with the girls. I wouldn't have a problem with short lines but he has only taken the girls out alone a handful of times (besides errands) so he gets flustered pretty easily.

When we've gone, people have been pretty polite and they let their kids play for a few minutes and then go on to the next thing so the line moves pretty quick. It is out in the parking lot of the Rec Center and there isn't a whole lot of shade so if it's really hot then it might not be so great. But we may just try to get there at 10 before it gets really hot.

ok i figured it out. my plan of action is:
get Addy evaluated, and get her SID diagnoses. get her into head start.
there is a head staart right around the corner at the elementary school.
we could walk there drop her off, and walk there and pick her up. and i would be comfortable with head start. especially with me being SO close, if anything were to go down, i could jsut hop in over. seriously its a 45 second walk. and i have heard some good things about head start (thanks Nadine ) so i think i would feel comfortable enough with her going. and she would feel like she was going to school. all while working on her SID!!!!
problem solved...

I wouldn't expect anything great, probably similar to dropping them off at the gym or Fred Meyer but hey, if it's only an hour and the prices are reasonable, I will definitely try them out for my next haircut. Especially since Malia is a little less clingy. I wish more places had that because my husband works M-F and I've been feeling like I'm asking my friends to watch my kids too much so I'm trying to cut back and it sucks to have to do everything on Saturdays or drag the kids everywhere. *sigh*
And congrats on having a good sleeper. Enjoy it while you can, though it may not last. Malia slept for 10 hours stretches from 2 months to 6 months and then decided it was much better to get up every few hours and get the boob until I finally night-weaned her at about one because I just couldn't take sleeping in 2 hour stretches anymore. But maybe you'll be lucky and she'll stay a good sleeper...

Really, truly, I don't want to sound like a negative nancy, but I recently heard manufactured homes are made with alot of nasty toxic substances. This is not something I have researched myself, though. I just wanted to mention it because I through one out of the running when we were looking at rentals. But.... is it the community on Heritage? Yes, its heritage. And the chemicals.. thats one of the main reasons we didn't get a new one (Even though it was *so* cute and perfect and nice and we loved it, lol). There was a formeldehyde warning in it. YUCK! At least the 30 year old one has had plenty of airing out time. Heritage seems pretty nice! Two pools, and two really nice playgrounds. And our payments will be so crazy low we'll be able to pay off credit cards in no time.

Woo! We're quiet and almost falling off the front page!
Anyone hear any thunder this morning? Woke me right up! I love storms :D And it's raining. Oh, and the kids are still sleeping. I'm in heaven.
What's everyone doing this week?
We're going to the Japanese Garden on Friday for our hike this week. Not really intense hiking, but I love that place! So fun for the kids to explore. I also posted the schedule up for the upcoming weeks on where we are going on my blog (http://oregonmoms.wordpress.com). Would love to have more people come with us :joy:
Yay! It's raining harder!
I know, isn't this weather awesome? We've got all the windows open enjoying the cool fresh air, and we've been hearing some good rumbles.
You're hiking trips sound like a lot of fun, Cameron and I might join you for some, I'll check out the blog!

Oh Lisa I missed this the first time! We have lots of boxes and newspaper for packing (I think), and I'd be happy to wrap on your squishy little baby. ;) And I think we're available on the 6th, although we have no room in our car. But muscles we do have!
Do you want me to drop by boxes tomorrow? I'm heading out that way to see Jenn anyway. :)
Loved the thunder, except for the freaked out dog and twitching baby which meant I got no sleep. :lol

My kids went to a summer camp at the Nature Park Interpretive Center in Beaverton and want to go for a hike there. If you ever go there, we'd be happy to join you! We don't haver any plans on Friday, I've not been to the Japanese Garden because when I tried to go, I thought it was too expensive. Do you know whether it's just adults that pay or kids too? My kids are 4 and 6 now so they are usually too old to go for free, and paying for 3 admissions is too much for us. Maybe I'll check it out and if only I have to pay, we'll go. Do you know if I can get around with a stroller? Too much stuff to put her in the backpack, and besides, she won't stay in it.
And YAY, I am glad we finally got enough rain that I can stop watering the tomatoes for a few days!

I've got all my windows open, too!
You should totally come. It's nice getting outside, and the kids love running around.

Oooh, I'll add that place to my list :) Thanks for the recommendation.
It is $8 for adults, kids 5 and under are free, and students are $6.25 :). You can get around with a stroller, though some areas are little paths with stones and some stairs in some places, but I imagine you could just not go through those spots. Most of it is paved, and stroller friendly.
I hate paying that much to go to a place, but I think the Japanese Garden is so freakin' beautiful and worth the $. I took Ciara when she was 2, and she about died. She thought it was the greatest place ever.

Hi everybody! I'm LOVING this cool weather after 3 days in Vegas. It felt like an oven there. Plus it was abnormally humid. Probably a lot like it was here. I don't think DH watered the garden like I asked him to because I see lots of yellow leaves from the window. :irked: But I had so much fun. Way way too much fun in fact.
I am so tired! The first day I was up for 22 hours. The second night we stayed out till 5:00 in the morning. Then we freaked out in the morning because we realized we had to check out at noon and we felt awful and had only slept a few hours, but our plane didn't leave until midnight. I guess I threw out my back dancing or I walked too much, but my lower back is killing me now. But my feet are fine. It's weird.
And I'm so used to eating small meals all day that I was really screwed up from only eating a couple big meals a day. The first breakfast we had there was so greasy and gross that it made my stomach uneasy all weekend so even when we went out to eat I couldn't handle eating much. I was really craving fresh fruit and veggies. Then add intense heat and drinking and walking for miles... I can see why summer is not the best time to go. But the pool was amazing and we saw Elvis in it! All the people we met were super nice, except for a couple grumpy employees and a couple slimy dudes. I really suck at gambling. My friend was lucky but I was not and it just made me grumpy so I quit gambling.
I have too many Vegas stories to type it all out here, but much fun was had and it was so good to see my friend.
Lisa thanks for the salon link. I have always wished for a hair place with childcare!
Tiff, congrats to your sis.
Home inspectors...all I know is, find your own and don't use the one the realtor tries to refer you to.
okay, I think I shall try to sleep some more. Josie says her tummy hurts. :( but maybe she'll take a nap with me.

Lisa, Morgan works on the 6th so i cant volunteer him to help move boxes, but if you have a moving party i would love to come help wrangle any and all kids. :)
Yay! I designed an evite and need to start sending it out! I will probably throw it out there to most of y'all I have emails for, but please don't feel obligated or bad if you can't make it or plain just don't want to!
And the chemicals.. thats one of the main reasons we didn't get a new one. At least the 30 year old one has had plenty of airing out time. Heritage seems pretty nice! Two pools, and two really nice playgrounds. And our payments will be so crazy low we'll be able to pay off credit cards in no time.
Oh, and packing paper!!! I have a ton! Please come get it, its taking over my pantry ;) pm me for address.
Ah good, should have known you would have it all checked out! The airing out makes sense! Heritage is seriously the nicest trailer park I have ever seen. I even drove through there wondering of there were any rentals until my friend scared me off. :lol Are you getting that one that was on Craigslist that said something like 5000 down and 499 a month?
Oh, and I will PM you for sure!
DH has a truck, he's pretty darn "manly", he's really good at moving stuff, and I'm pretty sure we're free on the 6th. Does that earn us an evite to the moving party? :D
We shouldn't need the truck as Ron's friend has one we can use, but heck, another one couldn't hurt I guess! Heck yeah you get an evite! PM me your email address!
Do you want me to drop by boxes tomorrow? I'm heading out that way to see Jenn anyway. :)
:lol I just emailed you asking if you were coming this way tomorrow. Teach me to read the thread first....

OK mama, it sounds like it is time for an action plan! Would your mom and/or Morgan be able to handle Addy overnight? We have that whole big room downstairs. You could come and spend the night with just Niamh. Or go someplace else, but you need to get caught up even for just one night! The only reason I am in such good shape is that Ron has been sleeping with Orion in another room. It makes me sad we don't have a big family bed, but I think it is the right decision for now.

Lisa, thanks so much for the offer i wish i could take you up on it.
really its insomnia from 5htp (kind of makes me mildly manic which leads to insomnia for me) then thunder past two nights, then DHs bladder last night, and Addys scream fits havent been too bad for the past few nights, much better since we stopped the sunscreen. and Niamh is just content to nurse all night if i let her, which on rare occasions keeps me awake wanting to crawl out of my skin if i am touched out. yead, i am SID too. :lol

Tiff, :hug
You sound so overloaded! Is Addy having night terrors? Josephine had those for a while and it was hard to feel so powerless. Nothing I did helped her. I just had to sit next to her and make sure she didn't get hurt.
uh oh...I hear pitter pattering and crying. Gotta go.

sometimes they are night terrors. sometimes she wakes up and wants to play then hears the word no and goes balistic, sometimes she is dreaming, and wakes up cranky from a bad dream and just starts screaming at us... its pretty rare for her to not wake up and scream actually.
btw, i wanted to say your vacay sounded like you had a blast and it was exactly what you needed! YAY!!!
i got a call today from someone at the hearing and sight institute place where we are going to have Addy evaled. should happen within a month

That is great news, Tiff! So is Addy set up to start Head Start in the fall? I think they can help get evaluations and diagnoses done too. When I worked there, I was a teacher aide and the family advocate's assistant and we helped families with all sorts of stuff...taking people to appointments if they didn't have transportation and even making appointments for people who didn't want to do it for whatever reason.

well the woman i talked to said they did evals for their program. i had no idea about head start doing their own evals. i wonder how good they are at assessing SID?
my concern is that they just arent going to see all that Addy is SID about, because its not big time over the top SID like my brother V is, but she is most definitely SID. i just dont want anyone to overlook her because its not SOOOO bad, you know? its bad enough that it effects her day to day life and how happy she is.

Ciara also has problems regulating sleep. When she wakes up, she's often very disoriented, angry and cries a lot. Usually takes her about 10 minutes to snap out of it. I was reading The Out of Sync Child, and apparently it is common in kids with SPD, along with other sleep problems. She has been doing it ever since she was a baby.

I think they might just have somebody who does some kind of preliminary assessment and then can refer you to a dr. I think we actually had one dr. who came into the classroom if it was needed. Sorry, I don't have more info. It was a long time ago. I didn't know if you needed the eval before they would let you into the program or if you needed it so they can help her more in the classroom.
We had specialists come in to do speech therapy during class and some who did occupational, so hopefully they will have some resources to help.
Of course you are doing the right thing by taking Addy to a good doc! I wouldn't trust anyone but a specialist to know all about SID.
SO...I don't know if I should take Josephine somewhere for a speech evaluation. She has a huge vocabulary, and I'm not worried about her receptive language skills, but she has really bad pronounciation. I just asked her to say "socks". She said, "daw". She can't say s,c,j,g,k. She can prounce the T in Toe but not Truck. I can understand most of what she says but now that she knows so many words a lot of them sound the same.
I suppose it would help if I took her to a 2 yr well child check but I skipped it since we weren't getting shots and there was so much nasty stuff going around at that time, I didn't even want to step foot in the waiting room.
In other news, she's all weaned now. Sort of. I don't have more than a few drops of milk and she doesn't nurse anymore. When she asks to nurse, she puts her mouth on me for about 5 seconds and that's it. I don't know how long this pretend nursing will last or when holding my boobs will stop being a requirement for sleeping. This process is so much different than it was for Naia. I'm still letting her lead, but I might have to make some rules about boob holding. :o

This sounds like Ruby, I think she is all weaned now. :joy: Its been about a month or so. She has gone 3-4 weeks twice before and then her latch has been really funky and uncomfortable so I feel totally done. She pretends to nurse outside my shirt sometimes. Complete with little pauses to wait for a letdown. She still asks at bedtime but I say that Nora needs it tonight and maybe tomorrow night she can try. But I don't mean it, I have no intention of nursing her again (I think), and I am not sure if I should just tell her that. She is sometimes okay with it, sometimes she cries for about a minute and then rolls over and goes to sleep, and sometimes she doesn't even ask. Nora really does need it now, in order to fall asleep. Her falling asleep time is increased a lot if there is not enough milk. So I am not sure if I should be up front and tell her she is not nursing anymore or else just keep putting it off till she stops asking.
Glad you had fun in Vegas Nadine! I hate eating while on vacation, I always get all screwed up too. I really like doing vacation rentals with our own kitchen so we cook for ourselves mostly.
