Just back from a week-long business trip where I pumped to maintain my supply for my 18 month old nursling.
After many many travel delays, pumping in a train bathroom, convention center bathroom, etc, and dumping all the milk, multiple flight delays on the way home, and just wanting to throw the pump out the window and get my baby back on the breast, it was all I could do to not lose my cool when I saw this.
Reagan National Airport in DC. "Nursing Lounge". Guess where it was located? The first stall of a very busy restroom. Said "lounge" consisted of a granite benc about 18 inches long (a larger mama never would have fit) and a stainless steel changing table. It worked fine for pumping, but, come on?!?! you expect me to feed my child in here? Next to the toilet? on a stone bench?!?
I am really feeling the need to write to someone about this... especially since they are redoing their restrooms. I would like them to re-do the nursing 'lounge' right out of there...
Does anyone have a draft letter about how inappropriate it is to expect a mother to nurse in a restroom and how creating a 'room' in there just adds to society's view that breastfeeding is something that should be hidden?
PM me or post here, or, PM me for my email address.
TIA
