Aug already?! Wow, July flew by.
Did we still want an August midweek evening picnic? I'm up for that
Lewisville or other closer park? I vote for Hazel Dell park
How about Tuesday August 26th? (I thought we had talked about Tues before?) that would *probably* work though it is my mom's bday
Anybody interested in a park day on the 12th or 13th?

A Tuesday evening picnic sounds fabulous to me!
If things go well we'll be out of town the 12th & 13th. We're taking the kids to Wild Waves/Enchanted Village up in Federal Way.
It's chilly today.

yeah I thought about starting a vanc thread, but then I decided to wait until a true vancoverite started it.
Did we still want an August midweek evening picnic? I would love to do it, but realisticly, E works at 6am and so usually midweek evening things are out. But that said, depending on what time it starts, we could always leave early.
Lewisville or other closer park? closer!
How about Tuesday August 26th? (I thought we had talked about Tues before?) Is that the week before Labor Day? I don't have a calendar in front of me.

So Mick called from work to say he had been in a car accident.
I had to work as a middleman between him and the insurance agent for a few minutes, since his cell doesn't call out {only does walkie talkie}. Of course his phone doesn't have a camera either. Frick FRICK. She's trying to claim that he was at fault. He was in the left turn lane, pulling up to the light. She came out of a parking lot, crossed three lanes of traffic and cut in front of him. He slammed on the brakes, but there was no way to avoid hitting her. He hit her in the front end driver's side, between the wheel and the driver's door. It was her fault. There is just no way that I can see how she can spin that to be his fault. I'm freaking out though, because just because I can't see it doesn't mean the insurance claim agents won't spin it that way. He was going under 10 miles per hour, just coasting to the light at that point. Our insurance agent said that since she was coming out of the parking lot and he struck near the front end {as opposed to a full on rear end collision} that she is clearly and inarguably at fault, but that he's not the claims expert so he can't guarantee anything.
Mick says he is fine, just shaken up. He refuses to leave work and said his boss wouldn't let him leave anyway. I want him to come home, but he's too stubborn. He said the van has a dent in the front fender, but otherwise no damage. Her car wasn't even able to be driven because the front wheel well bent. If we have to pay for this I am going to be so freaking angry.
I am so so so glad that he's okay. I wish he would come home though. Give his body a chance to rest. He is clearly shaken up; his voice was shaking even.

Amy & I are hosting a talent show for the end of the summer. September 20th, here in Vancouver (my place). Mark your calendars, details to follow!
Can we do the family picnic sooner? Pretty please?

No witnesses. Mick says he's fine, but I won't be able to relax until he's home and I see him.
I did find out that the girls' car seats will need to be replaced and apparently Ali's seat has a harness limit of 40 lbs instead of the 50 I thought it went to. So we might not make it to Avery's party Sunday :( :irk Mick will need to file a claim and add the car seats to it, but either way they'll need to be replaced and we can't do that until next week. Hopefully Mick won't be declared at fault {he shouldn't be ~ it was clearly her fault. He had the right-of-way and she very obviously did not check the lane before attempting to merge in to it} and her insurance will cover the cost of replacement. Sucks. I was really looking forward to going!

Yes to the August picnic, at a closer park than Lewisville (esp. if it is going to be in the evening). Anyone know of any good ones? I like Orchard's Park for a picnic. And any Tuesday is good for me.
And if we do a park day, may I suggest Orchards Highlands park? I heart this park. (http://www.ci.vancouver.wa.us/parks-recreation/parks_trails/parks/east_vancouver/orchards_highlands.htm) :joy: And I can walk to it from my house. ;) Amoreena, both the 12th and 13th are good for me. And thank you for holding on to my necklace, by the way! I'd been wondering where it went. :lol
*hugs* For jessie. Accidents are always so stressful! I'm glad he's ok.
I used to worry that I'd be unsupported when it came to attachment parenting. My husband was never around children before we had our son. But now I think I may have trained my husband a little TOO well on the attachment parenting thing... he's now giving me *&%^@ for using a stroller some of the time w/ my two year old. :eyesroll Sorry hon, but there is a limit to the poundage my 5'2" frame can carry!
:p ...I really had to get that off my chest. He's driving me crazy.
Oh, and we'll be at the Fair one day, but I'm not sure when yet. It's whenever my folks can make it. They really want to treat the grandkiddo to some good old fashioned fun.

Lilly stomped into the house this evening (she had been outside playing) and said, "F---ing cat keeps running away from me" 2 hours later she said, "F---ing cat ate my dinner!" Probably my fault for saying the same thing earlier when the cat jumped up on the table and tried to eat our dinner :o :o :o
Carrie, that park looks great for park day. How about the 12th (tues)? Jessie, we'll miss you, have fun on your trip!
Isn't it frustrating when the Dh's spit our own words back at us :irked: there's definitely a time and a place for a stroller. It's especially good for carrying shopping bags and a diaper bag :lol Actually, we took our hand-me-down out for her maiden voyage yesterday. Rowan made it exactly 2.5 blocks, about what I expected, but Lilly enjoyed pushing it while it lasted.
Still voting for Hazel Dell park for the picnic.
Heather, have fun at the fair! Jessie there is a shuttle to the fair from the mall, so you could get there w/ out a car...

The fair sounds like fun. We haven't been to a fair since we moved from Yakima. Hmmm, Pepsi is hosting a family day ~ wonder if Micklet can get free tix from work :lol
He's more shaken up than he'll admit to. When he tried to call the insurance claims line the 24/7 line was not open. Go figure. So he has to wait til tomorrow when he gets home to call them. Which irritates me quite a lot because in the meantime they're operating under the assumption that Dumb Other Driver is telling the truth {which she isn't. Dude, she hit him when she tried to make an illegal turn! Hello! Pretty obvious who is at fault here, IMO}.

Allison, hope Joe is feeling better! That is the park I was talking about. The smaller covered area is right next to the playground so we won't have to trek across the field to watch the kiddos :wink They also have running water and restrooms, but no creek to worry about. No where near as nice as Lewisville, but good enough IMO.
Looooooooooong night :yawning: John was up sick most of the night, so I couldn't fall asleep. Then, of course, when things quieted down so I could sleep Rowan woke up and was wide awake--all smiles too :D It's noon and I haven't eaten breakfast or gotten dressed yet :bag:

We are back from the fair...boy Brianna was such a good girl. She didn't whine for a second and we were there for over 3 hours and walked 4 miles. She went in her stroller for some of the time and then I wore her for the rest. I even BF her by the rides with my nipple shield...I just popped up my shirt, stuck the thing on and put her to the breast...who cares who saw me. I made a button that said "i make milk" LOL! We had a good time but we are all pooped.

Miss Lucy wears mediums? Want an embroidered cover? I was testing out a new design and realised that it was the wrong one. The company exchanged it for me, but now I have an embroidered medium diaper cover with a cupcake on it that I feel weird about selling since the design was the wrong one. It's cute, I just wouldn't feel right selling it. But giving it away I can do and feel okay about. So if you want it, it's yours. It's pale pink with a smiling cupcake on the bum. I just need to sew in the lining and the FOE binding.

Um hello! ME!
:o I'm stitching up a storm right now. Want the next one? Actually, you could help me with something, if you're game. I have a fuzzy fabric here which is a PUL, thick furry fleece and wicking mesh sandwich. It's supposed to work as a cover fabric, but I haven't tried it out. If I sew up a diaper cover would Naomi or Marah test it out for me? And keep it, of course.
I'm testing out a bunch of new designs and styles.

So weird thing today. I'm naking so may be typos. I have been telling Joe the past month or so that I want a dehydrator. I don't want to buy new so been checking goodwill when I'm there (which is rarely as I can never not buy something I always come home with books, etc.) Well today we pulled into Costco and as we parked behind us we saw a pile of something that looked a lot like a dehydrator. umm okay Joe goes to look as I was getting on Marahs shoes. Yep a dehydrator, practically new, its sitting on my kitchen counter right now. heats up fine so I am going to clean it and dry something tonight!! It felt a tad weird to take it out of the parking lot and several people who were parked right next to the pile just thought we were nuts. :lol

Courtney, we might be able to come tomorrow after all. Turns out Ali weighs two pounds less than I thought, so her seat is okay. Barely, but it will be okay. The impact was less than ten mph, so I'm not terribly concerned about super fast replacement of the seats, though they will be replaced within a week or two. I've calmed down a bit and I'm sure they'll be fine.
Way cool, Allison! Score free dehydrator!

I missed seeing you all, too! I was so upset; Mick didn't get home until like 6:30. I still wanted to go, but he thought it would be rude to show up so late. By the time he got cleaned up and changed it was after 7 and the kids were about to chew on the door frames, so he just cooked them dinner while I finished cleaning the bedroom.
Irritation helps though ~ I got the bedroom all cleaned and furniture moved around! I always clean when I'm upset.

Hello,
I am getting closer to losing it. This morning I took Bri and we went and met a lady at the mall and sold a computer bag. Came home mowed the lawn...put Bri in the trampoline with AmberLeigh when I did the backyard but the front I put her in the sling and mowed with her...not a good idea. Won't do that again and my face was so red afterwards. Had to bring her to the doctor as she has had this pimply looking thing right below her neck for the past few weeks...it has gotten bigger, redder and now I feel this lump. I freaked, of course. So I take her in and the doctor had another doctor look at it as well and they said things like cyst, sinus track blocked, infection, etc. Told me to give her antibiotics and if it doesn't clear up or if it recurs then she will need to see a surgeon. She only weighs 17.5 ounces (with clothes too so probably lower)...2 months ago she was 16 lbs 12 ounces so she barely gained and she keeps falling on the percentile chart. Doc is slightly concerned and wants me to feed her even more than I am. She said next month if she doesn't gain weight we will have to have blood work. She is about 8% for weight. I checked and AmberLeigh weighed more than Brianna does at this point. So another child to worry about weight.
Randy is still in a lot of pain....not sure how he is going to work tomorrow. AmberLeigh is off playing with friends. I need Calgon to take me away.

Hi Lisa,
I am in the same boat like you.
My daughter was 16.5 last month. She is getting
taller but I can see she is not gaining much weight.
She was always at 30% but now I am worried
that she will go down more. We will be having her
1 year check up in this month end.
I am trying to feed her as much as I can.
I have made a food and time chart for her.
I tried to do her weight on home scale and
she is only 18 pounds with cloths. Well, lets see
what doctor says about it.
By the way, one of my friends daughter is at -30%.
she is very skinny but they really can not do anything
other than feed and feed her.
Hopefully, your daughter will get some weight this month.
Take care

Can I ask what chart they are using. A few years back they came out with a BF one not really sure if it makes that much of a difference though. Erika might have some thoughts for you both as I know Campbell struggled with weight issues. Lisa I hope things get better for you and your family! I really should take Nomy and Marah to the doctor. Nomy has never been and Marah has not been in for a well child checkup since 2 months. Now she has been in the doctor for all kinds of emergencies since then so I don't feel we are missing out. :)

:o Allison, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't do the "well child" visits. We're not vaccinating, so I just never manage to get them scheduled. We've been in for lots of little emergencies, too, so I know he's been checked out thoroughly every so often, just no official visits, and no charts.
Aiden hasn't gained weight in forever... he's been 28 lbs for about a year. He just keeps getting taller and more slender. *shrug*

And I feel better knowing someone else does not go either. :D
Last time we were at the dr she told me my family would fit well with a naturopath. :lol Yeah I know lady tell my insurance to cover one! We are seeing one in BG next week though for Marah her rash is back full strength with little bumpy zit like things. Tired of trying cream after cream which is all our pcp is doing. Then when we have extra money it will be either Nomy or Michael to see her. Sad that we have to wait for extra $ to see someone who will help figure out and prevent the prob rather than cure or mask it over and over.
We weighed Nomy last night me on scale holding her and me on scale not holding her the difference was 19 lbs. She was 12 at 6 wks and 7 at birth. :)

Hey chicken mamas what kind of feeders and waterers do you have? These darn chickens keep knocking over their bucket thing and its seriously pissing me off. (sorry I had to say pissing its been a day). I can't attach it because the feed does not fall out unless I turn it. I am thinking of buying forget trying to make one I can't even get the coop done. :lol I was thinking hanging but its 50 50 over at BYC on whether they are better or not. I want easy clean, no rust, and not take up a lot of space as I am thinking I do not have enough as it is right now. Thinking about rehoming but I really don't want to. :( Maybe moving the coop out of the run but man that would be a 3 or 4 person job and a smelly, nasty, dirty one at that. Ewwww!

as for the feeder, we have a metal one that looks like this (http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/product/feeder_with_sifter_bottom.html) but it doesn't have a top.
oh it looks like this (http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/product/free_choice_wall_feeder.html) I have two of them and put feed in one and grit/oyster shells in the other.
I have it mounted to a couple of sticks that I put into the ground next to the fence line. you could mount it to one of the houses on the outside.
I have stuff to make a pvc feeder, but haven't completed it yet.
What kind of help do you need on the coop? Something that can be done if I come up and help?

I need some ideas with the nest box door. The plywood is 1/2 inch and I can't find any screws to hook the hinges on with. I used some tiny ones I found in the garage with two small hinges at first and it held for a week before the screws came out. Then I sent Joe to get bigger hinges and Home Depot and Lowes both don't have any screws that are the length I need with heads big enough to not go through the hinges. I think the hinges are too big so the holes are too big but I really don't want to spend much more money on this. I have 1/2 in screws that came with the hinges but when I put them on it holds tight but the screws poke into the back and I don't want the chickens to get poked. My brother suggested putting something just big enough to prevent that between the hinge and the wood but everything I put in there splits when the screw goes through it. Sigh... I am going to play around with it some more.
Other than that I just need to get the roof done and finish tying together the spots where there is a crack in the hardware cloth from piecing two together. Joe needs to treat one beam and the door with water sealer since we had to make a new door. It will get done I am just frustrated and tired. :) I know I can get it done the kids just need to let me do it. :lol

WHO breastfed girls growth chart
http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/chart3.html
A note about growth charts
A growth chart isn't a test, where you are striving to get your baby into the 100th percentile. The growth charts show us the statistical distribution of weight, height , etc. in a particular set of babies (or children or adults). So if a baby is in the 50th percentile for weight on the CDC charts, it means that half of the babies of the same age in the US are heavier and half are lighter; if a baby is in the 10th percentile for height, then 90% of babies of the same age in the US are taller and 10% are shorter. Healthy babies, just like adults, can come in all shapes and sizes - a baby in the 3rd percentile can be just as healthy and normal as a baby in the 97th percentile. What doctors are generally looking for on a growth chart is that baby stay relatively consistent in their growth pattern (see below for why this may not happen with the current growth charts). Growth charts are only one part of the puzzle, however, and must be evaluated along with other factors, including:
* What size are baby's parents? What were their growth patterns as babies? What about baby's siblings or other family members? Genetics plays a large part in baby's size, so don't ignore it.
* Is baby gaining consistently, even if it's not on a curve?
* Is baby meeting developmental milestones on or near target?
* Is baby alert, happy, active?
* Is baby showing other signs of adequate milk intake?
Growth charts and breastfed baby growth
I have heard of many breastfed babies (including my own) whose doctor was disturbed at some point because the baby wasn't gaining weight quickly enough, even though the baby was well within the above parameters for weight gain. The problem is that many doctors are not familiar with the normal weight gain patterns of breastfed babies, and rely too much upon standard growth charts.
Healthy breastfed infants tend to grow more rapidly than formula-fed infants in the first 2-3 months of life and less rapidly from 3 to 12 months. All growth charts available at this time include data from infants who were not exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months (includes formula-fed infants and those starting solids before the recommended 6 months). Because many doctors are not aware of this, they see the baby dropping in percentiles on the growth chart and often come to the faulty conclusion that the baby is not growing adequately. At this point they often recommend that the mother (unnecessarily) supplement with formula or solids, and sometimes recommend that they stop breastfeeding altogether. Even if mom realizes that her baby is perfectly healthy and doesn't follow these unnecessary recommendations, she ends up worrying for no reason (and moms don't need anything extra to worry about!).
Even if a doctor is informed of the difference in growth patterns, she might not be willing to listen...
"When I told my daughter's pediatrician that I had read that breastfed babies gain weight slower than indicated by the growth charts, and asked what her thoughts were, she said that she didn't believe that it was true and continued to question my daughter's weight. She refused to take a look at the article from Pediatrics [see reference below] that I brought to her office. I was rather surprised at this, since she had breastfed her own children. I ended up changing doctors, and my new doctor had no problem whatsoever with my daughter's rate of weight gain."
Whole article:
http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/growthcharts.html
Lisa, You are her mother what do YOU think? You know if she is healthy or not go with your gut feeling because you know her better than any doctor ever could.

when we went looking for screws for the hinges, we had to get the kind of screws that are with the hinges. There's like a pack of 12 or so for around a dollar.
if they are still too long, you can always cut them shorter once you put it through the wood. Or you could do like your BIL said, not sure about the wood splitting, I'd have to ask E when he gets home.

I agree with going with your gut on the weight thing.
Dom was only 17 pounds at a year. He was always around the fifth-15th percentile and they bugged me about it constantly for a year. Finally at 15 months I let them run the tests as a compromise that they wouldn't diagnose him as failure to thrive without the results. I told them this was their one chance, we were not going to do it again. They tested all these things... and whaddya know- the boy is just skinny with a high metabolism. It took him till 15 months to reach 20 pounds and be able to go forward facing in his carseat. He's only 34 pounds now at over 4 years old. Every kid is different.

Ana weighed 22 lbs the month before her second birthday. She's 5 now and weighs 2 lbs less than her 2 3/4 year old sister {38 lbs}. She has always been petite. She isn't unhealthy, she's just a small kid.
This thread reminded me that I need to schedule well child checks for my kids. I would SO skip them {and am already rather lax about them}, but Ana has a heart murmur, Gunner and Nate are both in therapy and Ali just ends up along for the ride. Our ped. is supportive of our decision to not vax and everything else, so it's not too bad. I need to remember to request an echo and cxr for Ana this time 'round.
Allison, do the chickens need constant access to the food or can you do set feeding times? Like feed them twice per day {or however much they need ~ I am completely chicken ignorant}, by either tossing food on the ground or bringing a pan of food into the pen?
Is it terrible that I keep trying to shorten chicken to 'chix', the restaurant shorthand of the word? :lol
Allison, how are you and the kids feeling today?
Oh, and btw, a general PSA: The Goodwill over on ... uh... I don't know the street name, it's the one across the street from Izzy's. Mill Plain, maybe? Past Costco. Anyway, good selection there! My grandmother insisted on taking the kids shopping for clothes, which I did not want her to pay for, so we compromised and I agreed to let her pay for Goodwill. She is way too generous. Anyway, I found a lot of clothes there in excellent condition, some great brands even, all for around $5-$7 per pair. Like, Bongos and Gap and even some really high end boutiquey brands that were easily $150 new or more and were in practically new condition. So... if you're looking for decent second hand stores, that's a good place to go.
I feel very bad right now though. I found 4 pairs of pants and 3 shirts for Nate, 3 shirts and 3 pants for Gunner and new swim trunks at Old Navy {only $5 per pair, gotta love clearance} for the boys, but didn't buy a single thing for the girls. I couldn't find anything at the Goodwill or at the mall that they would like for a reasonable price. I did see a gorgeous lady bug corduroy dress at JC Penneys for $24 that I'm sorely tempted to go splurge on and buy for Ana, but spending that much for a dress is physically painful for me :lol I'm cheap by nature. I think I might take the girls over to the fabric store at let them pick out some prints for new dresses.

Hello,
I am getting closer to losing it. Our NEW doctor (not so new, had her for a year now) said each baby gains differently.
However, Campbell was born 8wks premature and completely breastfed. At birth she weighed 3.15. At 6 months she weighed 6lbs. She had also had a major surgery, which slowed down her weight process. At one year she weighed 12lbs and THE DOCTORS FLIPPED!
they called CPS on me (I strongly suggest you avoid Vancouver Clinic and Evergreen Peds), had her admitted to Emanual for a week, and then put her on this nasty high calorie diet.
It was then that I pushed for allergy tests, and guess what...she was/is allergic to milk, eggs, and casein.
She now weighs 22lbs and she is 2 years. She is 33.5in though, she is a skinny one. Very healthy and since we have the new doctor at Broadway Medical Clinic, she believes that babies just grow at their own rate.
I wouldn't freak out. Who said that at one year your baby had to weigh 20lbs? Your babies sound perfectly healthy to me. Are they meeting their milestones? are they interactive? You really need to look at the whole picture, just not weight. Are they growing in length?
Campbell was bright eyed and smiling and meeting her milestones, so really those doctors were stupid and that was a period in my life I'll never forget. It pains me to this day and it also instills fear into me.
Don't follow charts...THEY ARE STUPID. I mean look, my child is 2 and she is in the 5th percentile..but she can ride a trike. She colors within the lines to the best of her ability, she gets herself dressed and can put on her own shoes. A little slow with talking, but she was a preemie. So I feel, as long as your children are meeting their milestones, they are doing perfect.
Also, don't force food, it causes diversions and don't stress about weight, they pick up on it and can actually lose weight and gain it slower.

Ali cracks me up. This morning she got up earlier than usual so that she could see Grammy before she left. A few minutes ago I was chatting with her and said, "What would you like for lunch today?" I just listened to the following conversation:
Ana: Gunner, why are you going into the closet?
Gunner: Because I want to have alone time. Go leave me alone.
A: You can't have alone time in the closet, if you want to be alone go in your bedroom.
G: No, I can choose wherever I want for alone time! Go away.
A: Gunner, you can't have alone time in the closet! MOOM! Gunner is having alone time in the closet! Make him let us in!
Ali: Gunner, you wants alone? No! Go in yours room!
G: I want to be alone, quit abducting my alone time! MOOM! Make them stop following me!
Then he came out of the closet and stomped off down the hall muttering "Alone time, just leave me alone, abducting my alone time, not fair..."
I did not say a single word during this whole exchange. He's in his bedroom now, and Ana and Ali are in the closet, fighting over something.
I think it's just about time for a play date. They're climbing the walls and clawing at each other. Does any one want to get together this weekend? Maybe at Kevanna Park or Image Elementary? Or a craft day here at my apartment would be fun, too. Maybe Saturday or Monday?
{ETA: I had to not talk or look at them to keep from cracking up over them tattling on each other, complete with that annoying whiny Tattle Voice that kids have [which Ana and Gunner have perfected], over... I'm not sure what. Invasion of personal space? I think they were just fighting over the closet. Kids are interesting.]

Gunner just said, "Ana wants to invade my personal body space and she can't, because I didn't give her permission."
Is it wrong that I'm more than a little bit happy about this? He's using the right words and clearly I'm doing something right, right? Uh... not with the Space Invader, but with the Invaded. I need to go have a talk with the Space Invader.
Oh, and any hints to help curb the Whinese and Ana's constant tattling would be greatly appreciated. Earlier this morning she tattled on Nate for breathing loudly.

I won't freak out about Brianna anymore...she is happy, healthy, and meeting milestones. I am working on feeding her more just in case...she is eating all that I am giving so I guess she is hungry.
Bad day today....here is what happened:
This morning I find out I can get email but can't send it out. So dh calls to complain. They told him we were "investigated" and they are not letting us send email anymore. Investigated for what? She said spam. He told her he would like to see her investigation notes as we don't spam anyone. She says she can't show him who called in and complained about us . She said they took time and investigated us and closed down that part of our acct. He demanded to talk to someone. They gave us head of security and the short story of all of this is someone on my prayer chain that I lead through the church thought I was sending them spam when I send prayer requests and they told on us. I have approximately 60 people on my list. I am only allowed to send out 99 emails a day through comcast w/o it being a business acct (I didn't not know this) and sometimes I send 2 prayer requests a day...so that would be 120 emails. We explained it was the prayer chain and it took some begging but he finally let me send out email. However, he said he will be watching our acct. Great. He didn't get what a prayer chain was and dh had to explain it to him. I called the Pastor and complained to her. She is going to mention something to the congregation. I am only allowed to send 1 prayer request a day so if I get more than 1 in a day I will have to combine it. This week has been a week from hell.

For new clothes I like the chilren's place in the mall--their sale prices are usually as good as the used stuff, sometimes better.
We don't keep up w/ well child checks either. Did 'em till Lilly was almost 2. Thinking of bringing her to the ND in BG too. Allison, does Joe have an FSA for healthcare as a benefit from his work? We use that to pay for the ND so we never have to worry about whether we've got the $ for it. It's a pretty good deal if you use it. Worth looking into before open enrollment time.
Ditto on what others have said about growth charts. If they seem happy/healthy and are meeting milestones, no need to worry about numbers! Enjoy their littleness, my babe is starting to get heavy already :lol

Where is the VV on Fourth Plain? The only VV I know of is the one over nearish where Winco used to be, a few blocks from the mall. I do not know if that's the one you mean or not. Great with geography, aren't I? :lol
I LOVE TCP. I didn't get time to go in there when I was at the mall yesterday. I want to swing in to check out their sales soon. Their clearance prices are great, I definitely agree with you there. I've gotten some excellent deals on clearance at Old Navy and Gap Kids, too. And IME they are built to last, worth every penny. I had a Gap Baby outfit that Nate wore when he was a baby. It's been through all four kids, in heavy use, and is still in good condition.

Yep, but not the 19th. I think I voted 19th, so take a vote away from 19th and put it to 12th :lol
This time it's not just me being fickle :lol My mom asked us to wait an extra week, because she just had something done to her toe today and doesn't think she'll be healed enough to be around jumpy kid feet before next week.

Allison, how are you going to hang the feeder?
If you need help with moving the coop, I can come over and help. Do you have a dolly to help move it?
We decided to move the house out of the pen area cause of space. The girls still want out of it. So they get out in the morning when I water the garden, so they stay out of the garden.
Eric put the roof on the pen this past weekend and now we just need to put up fencing from the 4ft to the bottom of the roof. The girls keep getting on the door to the house and looking up like they're gonna jump out.
I need to put in vent holes in the house cause it's getting hot in there. right now I've just got a 2x4 propping the human access open a bit so they can't get out but it needs cross ventilation.

Who wants to help me with a traumatised toddler? I'm not sure what to do to help her feel better and not be scared.
When we got home from JoAnn's she was walking behind the bush outside the apartment. She likes to walk back there. She went to go behind another bush and I looked just in time to see her walk straight through a spider web... with a spider on it. I asked Mick to grab her, that she just walked into a spider. He walked toward her, but not fast enough. She saw a fly {which she's afraid of} and backed up, then turned around and saw the spider hanging right in front of her. And panicked.
Poor baby is still so scared. She keeps coming in here and suddenly bursting into tears. She looks so sad and I can't console her. She'll cuddle up in my lap until she stops crying, then goes to play again and a few minutes later comes back in and starts crying.
Is there anything I can do to help her, or should I just keep up the cuddles and snuggles and reassuring her?

:hug Ali! I would keep cuddling with her too. Poor thing.
Allison, we've tried a couple of feeders but we usually just end up filling some old planters with food. When they tip over the chickens eat the food off the ground. The next time we fill it up we stand it up again.
We could keep the park day on the 12th and have the picnic on the 26th like we originally talked about so we have a little more planning time. Not that it takes a ton of time to prepare for a picnic but I've already done my shopping and spent all my grocery money for this week and a potluck didn't figure into it...
What a day. Nothing bad happened, but I just feel beat. I couldn't get anything done. Rowan had about 3 20 min naps all day. Luckily John came home on his lunch break so I got a shower. I'm getting fed up with the messy house :(
Jessie I would come to craft day if it happened. John works on the weekends and most of our friends are busy with their own families so we are usually on our own. You need to meet baby Rowan :wink

Yes! I DO need to meet baby Rowan. And snuggle the new baby! That right there is reason enough to have a craft day :D
How about Saturday around lunch time? I can set up the kiddie table in the living room for the kids.
Anyone who wants to come, PM me for the address and directions. Just bring something for your kids for lunch and a craft to work on. I'll have something for the kids to do, a bazillion toys and some snacks to share.
Amoreena, do you crochet? Nate bought some soft, lovely yarn today and asked me if I knew someone who could show him how to make a hat. He bought it with his own money and everything. He knows how to make a chain stitch and he kind of gets the idea of how to go up a row, but needs some help. I can barely knit or crochet a row, so I'm not much help to him. If you can and wouldn't mind, he would dearly love a few tips.
Ali is walking around the apartment wearing nothing but undies and sneakers. Hey, she's happy :lol

I may or may not have gone to JoAnn's today... and placed an order wtih Fabric.com a few weeks ago... and a couple of recent co-ops... :o
I did so well with no buy for so long, but then there was this sale, and a great price and another sale and a cool new fabric to try {I co-op ordered some of that Zorb stuff... I'm curious to see how it works; it sounds way better than microfiber}. I got an awesome deal at JoAnn's today. The cutest pink knit print with castles, on sale for half off and when she was unrolling it she saw a few small ink stains near the selvedge. So she offered to give me half off the sale price. $2.49 per yard for a super cute knit print! I could not turn that down. She did the same with some cord that had a few light spots. Way cool.
Mostly though I just need to organise this stuff. I dumped all of my fabric onto my bed a couple of days ago and it made a huge mountain. I took a picture. It's too embarassing to share though. Then I got overwhelmed and hid from it for 2-3 days. Now I'm finally digging through it and sorting it out into bins again.
I sew late at night and went on a big jag lately where I mostly ignored the housework, doing only what was absolutely necessary and sewing instead. Then the house started to gross me out so I put the machines away, cleaned the place and now it looks all pretty in here, but I haven't sewn again yet. And you have a baby! Dude, baby is like the Anti-Sew. :lol There are a lot of things I can do with a babe in arms, but sewing is not one of them. I value unpierced fingers :lol
I don't have a reopen date yet. I wanted to do it this month, but not until after we get back from Seattle. So the last week of August or first week of September. I'm afraid that I'm going to get overwhelmed, between school and last minute summer stuff and everything, so I'm trying to pace myself and slowly feel my way out.
Do you mean the Olivia? I LOVE that pattern. I would be happy to come over and show you how, or you could come here on Saturday if you want. You're going to be surprised at how easy it is. The Olivia goes together super fast and easy, especially with a serger.

Yep, just the four seams and then you can do sleeves or ribbed binding or just fold the edges in ~ I LOVE this pattern! It's so versatile and easy.
Nate would love to see those books! He's a quick study, but has some struggles with finger dexterity; crocheting {even the simple chains he does} has been a big help with that.
Yes, Saturday here at mi casa. Do you remember how to get here?
A collab would be an awesome idea! I would love that.
I've been kicking around the idea of a congo, because I don't think I have time to sew enough to stock an individual store, but if I had others with me on a congo it would be spread out over a group, if that makes sense. Plus more motivation. I don't know. I need to think on that more.

All good questions. I'm sorry you're having troubles!
Mice are a PITA and especially difficult to get rid of if you live in the country or near a field. We had a frequent struggle with mice when we lived in Yakima, because we lived so close to wide open fields. Well, we had a frequent struggle with mice... and then we had a frequent issue with waking up to mice bodies courtesy of our cat.

As for testing this usually works for me: According to the state of washington we are NOT required to test until age 8. Once we are at that age we will use so and so for our annual testing.
so and so being whatever you choose. Next year will be the first we have to test Maddy so I think we will use that place in Spokane. Not sure which test I want though. :)

Does anyone have experience with working with more than one Dr. and the Drs. Fighting?
:hug whats going on?
My cousin had a cleft lip and palate but I doubt my Aunt would be much help. It was over 20 years ago and they live in Port Orchard.

Wow, you guys have been chatting up a storm, actually took some time to catch up :)
Allison, sorry about the ear! Hopefully it was just some fluid built up and not an infection? Sometimes the steam/hot shower helps unplug mine.
Heather and Lisa :hug sorry about the troubles hope things start looking up soon! When we had mice we had to find the hole to seal and then use traps to get the ones that were stuck inside. Took awhile, but eventually cleared up.
Jessie, cool stuff on the blog. I do know how to crochet, but it's been awhile so I might need to practice before I could show Nate. I'm happy to *try* and help, but no promises :o Will see you tomorrow around lunch. Did you mean to bring craft stuff for us or the kids? I haven't even thought about crafting anything for awhile :lol BTW the VV you mentioned IS the one on 4th Plain and I forgot to mention Once Upon a Child--we've gotten good stuff there. Looks like you could make all the school clothes you need anyway :thumb
Speaking of school stuff I always LOVED this time of year and I get just a teensy-weensy-bit sad that I don't get to go through it with Lilly. New supplies, clothes, etc. How's everyone else doing on the getting ready? Homeschooling seems a little more official when your kids actually reach schooling age :lol
My inlaws called this week to ask about how we were testing Lilly :eyesroll Then they started asking about the vaccines (sigh) Trying not to get stressed about their visit next week...
I'm going to have something here for the kids to do {not sure what yet, but at the least there will be crayons and color sheets}, but if there is something special that your child is working on feel free to bring it. You can bring something for yourself to work on or you can just hang out and chat. I don't have a huge amount of space, but there is enough room for a few sewing machines at my table. Of course, your hands will be free because I'm going to want to hold the baby the entire time :lol
Thanks for the compliments!
The in-laws I can't help with. I tend to rapidly change the subject when people start the vax and hs'ing drilling.
We are playing he said she said with me caught in the middle of the surgeon and the orthodontist....

Oh, what a hassle that must be! It's terribly unprofessional of them to catch you in the middle.

Allison- The transformers conversation was TOO cute!
Heather- I agree, that is horribly unprofessional and really annoying. Hopefully they grow up and everything gets figured out.
Do any of you guys have local chiro's you would recommend that are really natural and/or supportive of natural childbirth? If so... could you PM me?

Michael was talking to me as I folded laundry. Had to share:
M: When will I be 20?
A: In about 15 years.
M: Can I go to driving school then?
A: Yes or when you are a teenager.
M: Ok. Cause then I am going to buy a van and drive to McDonalds.
A: A van? Like ours?
M: Maybe a transformer car. But I am going to stay here forever so that I can still get my allowance. Transformer cars are expensive. :lol
How appropriate that E and M are watching transformers right now.

Jessie, I've got a kitten her with your (er Mick's) name on it. They're eating wet and dry food and using the litter box. I think they'd do fine away from Mama cat now, but it's still a little early. We'll probably put them on craigslist in the next week or 2 but you guys are welcome to check them out and take first pick :D
If anyone else knows of a home in need of a kitten, feel free to send them my email addy! meenajo at hotmail dot com.

Of course :) Uh... got any you want to bring with you...? :love Heh, we'll turn the craft day into a tracing party :lol
I completely, totally, 100% understand needing a kid break. I am in need of one myself. Today in Costco I threw a hissy fit, to the point that I had to tell Mick "That's it, I'm walking away now before I really flip out." That was after I yelled at him, snapped at the kids and threw my grocery list into the cart. Mommy had a tantrum. My nerves were frayed and I wasn't feeling well. Taking a few minutes helped and then I apologised, but yeah... not such a stellar moment for me there.
Oh, and I bought chicken nuggets for lunch... :lol

He's still trying to talk me into it. We're still in the pro v con stage right now. He's wearing me down. He keeps showing me pictures of cuddly cats to soften me up. I will let you know for sure on Tuesday, okay? I'm really not as anti-pet as I sound; I do like cats, I just have a lot of reservations about getting one right now, you know? The pet deposit, and vet bills, and Ali's eczema, and cat hair on business fabrics... I'm a sucker for kittens though. Get them near me and I melt :lol I'm able to be logical and talk out the details when they're not around, but get me near a sweet little litter and I'm likely to take them ALL home {and have far too many times}.
Mick, otoh, wants a kitty very, very much.
Hey Jessie and Leslie, can you pm me your email addresses please?

Why am I sitting up eating sushi at 2 am?
Uh, btw, to anyone who comes over tomorrow: You are not allowed to look at the baskets of unfolded laundry. They do not exist. Pretend they aren't there.

Well my baskets of folded laundry don't exist either. I really need to put them away today. Brianna slept through the night...10 to 6 am but am I engorged or what...I am so sore. She nursed for 16 minutes and fell back to sleep...I really wanted her to nurse for at least another 30 minutes. I am in pain and can't wait for her to wake up. I hate using the pump so I will stay in pain as long as I can.

Enabler! :lol
Actually, I did see it and bought a few already :o This one (http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/SimpleProduct.aspx?CS_Catalog=Emblibrary&CS_ProductID=C9794) and this one (http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/SimpleProduct.aspx?CS_Catalog=Emblibrary&CS_ProductID=C9789) and a few others. The robots clinched the deal for me. I'll probably go back before the sale ends for the reclining robot. I got this one (http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/SimpleProduct.aspx?CS_Catalog=Emblibrary&CS_ProductID=G1533), too. That baby is going on a tee shirt with a matching cow print knit fitted diaper, I think.
My favorite robot is the fourth design down on this page (http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Pack.aspx?CS_Catalog=Emblibrary&CS_ProductID=X4591).

Amoreena and Leslie, it was great to see you today! Thanks for coming :) Amoreena, Lilly forgot a toy here, so I'll bring it with us to the picnic on Tuesday.
So the new neighbors downstairs? Yeah. We're gonna go rounds. I took the kids to the pool for half an hour after everyone left. When we got back there were two notices on our door, both from the office, both complaints from the new neighbors. One for noise {"Stomping around after quiet hours"} and the other for "Kids dropping toys down". WTF? I'm pretty darn sure C dropping the car was an accident. And stomping around? I was tiptoeing last night, being extra careful to be quiet.
Nearly two full years living here and not a single complaint from the neighbors. New people move in downstairs and their first day they're ringing up the office. Oh yeah. Gonna love this.
They're hypocrites, too. At 10:15 tonight they were moving furniture around, pounding so loudly that it woke up Ali. And last night at 1:30 am someone was hammering in their apartment. Now none of this would have even registered on my radar {I noticed the hammering, but it didn't bother me much because the kids slept through it} if it weren't for the utter hypocrisy of complaining about 'stomping' while pounding around yourself.
We had decided to sign another year lease, but this has pushed us completely the other way. I'm pretty sure we're done with this place. Our lease is up Jan. 31st and I think we'll be spending January hunting for a house to rent. What are the chances of finding a 3-4bd house to rent for less than $900/mo?
