Any body know any good names in any language that are associated with the moon.
We lean toward Scottish and Irish names for our up and coming, but our long time favorite (for years) is the name of a tree. I want to consider names having to do with the moon because this baby was conceived on the first try on the day of the full moon and we first got to see it via ultrasound on the day of the full moon.
Anyone know any good websites or places to look if you don't know any moon names off hand?
Thanks for your ideas

Jacy is a Native American name meaning "moon". And Luna is one of my favorites.
And go to www.babynames.com and do a search by meaning for "moon". There were a lot.

. . . and am also looking at middle names for baby girl. I *know* some of these are long but they are all beautiful and hope it gives you something to spark your imagination. :-)
The one that came to mind with trees and moon is VanaJyoti (means moonlight over the forest). I knew someone who named their son this name but it can also be a female name. His nickname is Jyo ("Joe")
My dd's name Abirami (ah-bee-RAH-mee) has to do with the legend of the Goddess Abirami who threw her earring into the sky and it became the full moon. My dd was born during the Vedic full moon period and I am pretty sure she was also conceived on the full moon. She was also born with one ear unfurled and will always stick out a little. We'll tell her she just pulled too hard to get that earring off. ;-) We chose the name before her birth so it was pretty cool how it worked out.

Thank you all so much!
I love these suggestions and appreciate the site ideas. I really don't want our child to end up with a five part name, but it is going to be hard to make a final decision. Good thing we have a long time to think about it. We probably won't make a final decision until the child is born, but I want to have options in mind. It certainly isn't a time to be pulling names out of the air.

well, there's Delia...
the baby books say it means "from the island of Delos", and digging deeper, I found something that said there was a temple to Artemis, goddess of the moon, among other things, there, and that the name meant one who was "moonstruck"
My Delia certainly is moonstruck; from an early age she noticed the changing moon.
And for some reason, this Greek name became popular in Ireland some time back...I still don't know why...books will list it as a variant of Brighid...
Good luck with your search/discernment for your babe...

Qamar is used for boys or girls (Arabic). I am considering Tayyurt for a middle name for our girl on the way (Ayyur for a boy)...it's Berber. Also, I think Tiziri means "moonlight," and Tazirit means "little moon."

Yareach [yah-RAY-ach] (the "ch" is like the German sound in "Bach") means "Moon" in Hebrew; I think it's very pretty and if my dh and his family could say it, I'd totally want to name a little girl Yareach.
Usagi means Rabbit in Japanese, and there's a story about a rabbit pounding mochi in the moon (kind of like our man in the moon); that's why Sailor Moon's name in the original show is "Usagi". A bit strange if you're not Japanese or an Anime otaku, but there you have it!

One of my favorites is Marama, meaning "Moon" in Maori.
