i've never had this odor before, it's really strong, and i think it's horrible, but DP says he can't smell it. (maybe he's just being nice?) it just started recently, and i have another week before my next MW appt. but i would feel really wierd asking the MW to smell my crotch, ykwim?

i can't really describe it~~it's not like a yeast infec smell, it's just a really strong, unpleasant odor.

I'm 33w4d, btw. Does your odor change with pregnancy, or should i go get some monistat? I don't think it's a yeast infection, though. it's not the same, and there's not any discharge like a yeast infection has. infact, the discharge i've gotten lately seems to be consistent with some of the ladies in my Nov/Dec delivery group, watery/moist...opposite of a YI.

so what the heck is this?!?!?

Christy,

I've noticed the same thing. My vaginal discharge has an odor to it unlike the norm. Started a few weeks ago (I think). I've noticed it more in the past week or two. I assumed it was a chemical/hormonal change in my body as I get ready for birth and the mucous plug starts to give way.

I've never had a YI so I can't compare it to that but I'd say if you don't have any other symptoms of a YI don't treat it that way. Its probably completely normal at this point. I was going to ask my MW about it today. I'll let you know what she says but I wouldn't worry. BTW - my dh says he can't smell it either, and neither one of my dogs has been sniffing at my crotch. I would assume if the odor was really noticeable the dogs would have picked up on that one (like how they always sniff when AF is here - KWIM?).

I am 33w too and just noticed a strange mysterious odor this weekend  I thought maybe since I have been having trouble reaching "down there" I hadn't been cleaning as good as usual ( sorry if TMI ) :LOL I have been bathing it seems like constantly to get rid of the smell, and I am the only one that can smell it.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one- I was going to ask my OB at my appt tomorrow.

This is one of those things that your mama never told you about pregnancy.

Sue Johanson from the Sunday Night Sex Show explained to listeners one night that pubic hair is your best friend when it comes to keeping vaginal odors from getting to other's noses. I think this musky pregnancy smell is just another reason why NOT to shave off all your pubic hair. That's one of the purposes of pubic hair -- to hold the smells close to your body and not let them fly all around. If you shave your pubic hair really close, the odors escape more.

How many times do we have to appologize for TMI on this thread? I'll do it again -- sorry if TMI about the pubic hair. It's more a biological fact really.

Also, as your delivery time approaches, your nose goes into overtime. My DH calls me the Nose of the North every pregnancy... I can smell icky things a mile away...:LOL

well, i'm glad i'm not alone, but still! :crap it's so gross.

BTW~~i don't shave anywhere, and i usually have no b.o. smell at all under the arms, and i've never smelled my yoni until recently, so yes, having hair keeps the funk away, LOL.

what does amniotic fluid smell like? I've heard it stinks, too. this is my 1st baby, so i have no clue.

funny thing is that I have no hair! It is all shaved off because I have more odor with the hair there...tmi (I hadn't said it yet) and without hair I don't have an odor...unless pg.

My amniotic fluid smelled like canned corn! It took about a year before I could open a can!

I had the same thing with dd's pregnancy! I could not stand the way I smelled! It didn't matter how much I washed either! My pits too! PEEEYUUUU!:run When I lost my mucous plug it smelled like cinnamon sugar cookies!:yum (yes, I smelled it!) :LOL I didn't get a whiff of the amniotic fluid since I was in the water when my waters broke. It is normal though! I took to carrying around some rose water in an atomizer to spritz my face with when I was out and couldn't stand me stench anymore!:love I think it might have to do with dh not using a raincoat in the sack too!:)
Ah, I love these 'late night' confessionals! Lovely chit chat that would never pass my lips in other circumstances! You all are priceless!!
