Hi all,
We are hoping to invest in some sides to stock the freezer for the winter. We are thinking 1/4 cow, a whole lamb and maybe a split a 1/2 to whole hog with my parents. I have not idea what a decent price is for a side of pastured meat though. What do you all spend?

Pay just paid $5.35lb for a side of beef. It was all packaged for us.

I just paid $700 for 5 pastured chickens, 1/4 cow, and 1/2 pig. I have no idea how many pounds that was. But two gigantic freezers are now full of meat.

I generally pay $375 for 1/4 side of beef. This includes fees to the farmer, slaughter person and processing people. Last time it was about 151# hanging weight and I think we walked away with about 75% so it was around $3.30 lb. for what we took home.

Chickens run $2.25 lb. for whole chickens (pastured and mostly organic feed--not soy free though).

I have half a pig reserved for later this year but I'm not sure the total yet and I've never purchased lamb but hope to some day.
