You can go to the following link:

http://www.dora.state.co.us/midwives/

Click on Licensee Database Request on the left and you will get a couple of different files that you can download. They're messy to look at, but you'll get the full list of current Registered Midwives.

Hi! I am in Leadville too!

There is a midwife out of Crestone that I have heard of. I could try to find the name, if you still need one...

I used a midwife from Salida, but she is retired. She might know the Crestone one, though. Let me know and i can find out for you.

Have you been in Leadville very long? Send me a pm, maybe we could meet up!

Thanks to all for the info. I am still in a quandary. Here's are my questions:
Is 2+ hours too far for the midwife to drive to reach Leadville for an early April birth? I'm just worrying about skier traffic, accidents, and snow. This will be my first birth so I'm not sure how things will progress (slowly, very quickly, etc.). Second I found a midwife in Salida but she is very young and has not had children of her own. She has had a lot of experience but not in the U.S. So there seem to be my choices. ????? What do you all think?

hi!
my 2 cents...
no, 2+ hours isn't too far if you're talking about the midwife (traditional birth assistant) from crestone.
she's done it multiple times before and hasn't ever missed a birth.
she's worked with a few families from leadville. you could talk to them about their experiences.
the mw from salida is young, but does have quite a bit of experience. she can also assist the tba from crestone, as they seem to be working together a bit more now. the tba from crestone as primary, the mw from salida as her assistant/legal frontwoman.
we worked with the tba from crestone with dd #2 and i'd recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat. absolutely amazing. she has quite a bit of experience, is very empowering, comes from a very heart-centered place, works with you and meets you where you are at, has tons of educational material and will educate you about your own unique situation and give you the tools/resources to educate/empower yourself.
pm me for more info if you are interested.
