I took my daughter to the dentist today and didn't like the experience. They pushed Fluoride, were condescending and wanted to fill even the smallest cavity. I want to find a natural minded dentist who won't push flouride, filling small cavities or spacers.

Please tell me that you know of a great one in North Seattle or South Snohomish County. North Eastside is ok too.
Thanks
Lisa

we use Jeffrey Marks and Kristen Johansen in Ballard. My kids are very comfortable there and they are not pushy when tell them I don't feel xrays are necessary and I want to take a watch and wait approach to somethings. It is a strictly peds practice.

They are always respectful and flexible.

Have you been to her? Was she worth the drive (over 45 minutes)? How is she with kids? I hate to find new dentists, it's sooo hard. I'm still all upset that yesterday I let that pushy dr. condescend me and push me into giving my daughter a flouride treatment. I'm usually pretty good at handling those situations, I was just caught off-guard. Now, I'm stressed.

I did call and make an appt. They said that they don't do Flouride treatments, but they are also not on any preferred provider networks which makes me a little worried that they'll be really expensive. I guess it's worth it for less hassle.

Thanks in advance.

We took our son in to see her. She was happy to see him (he was under 2 y.o.) but ultimately was worried about doing the work he needed (he needed two teeth pulled and a cavity filled, the teeth were crumbling, and she was just concerned about medicines at his young age). Asked us to come back after having the work done, but we live in Tacoma and that's not going to happen. :)

She was just lovely. She has multiple air filters in her office and she doesn't work with the normal dental materials, so her office doesn't stink like dental offices often do. If I recall correctly, she makes her own things, doesn't send them out to a lab (like a crown), b/c they would all make them with weird materials.

For little ones, she splits the initial visit (if wanted) to 3 short visits. No extra cost (except for the gas, LOL). She did not charge an arm and a leg, and his visit was covered as a preferred dental visit would be. I do not recall our dental insurance at the time.

She didn't care at all about fluoride, and DS even nursed while we were waiting in the chair in the working room, and no one batted an eye. The toothpaste she recommended for DS has enzymes from breastmilk in it. I mention those things just to show you how easy she is.

Adding to that, there's a yummy Mexican restaurant in the same "strip mall" she's in, which made at least one of those quick 3 visits even better. :p

If we lived in Seattle we would definitely go to her. Just not from Tacoma.

Thank you Molly. We went today and it was awesome. My daughter had two deep fillings done with no meds, no shots, no gas, no pain. I was in shock.LOL These teeth were the ones that supposedly needed root canals!

She's worth the drive. She's got cool supplements and dental wash stuff in her office, like getting shampoo at a salon, you can pick up cool dental stuff there. She gave my kids squeezy putty as soon as they got there and a toy afterwards.

The only thing was that the office was small and quiet. It felt a little too zen to have 3 kids and thier noise. I was stressed about trying to keep my kids quiet, but that was stress from me, not the staff.

So, thanks again. It went well.

I'm so glad!!!!!!!

I had forgotten about the smallness of her waiting room. And yes, now that I think about it, I felt weird about my son banging on their train, or whatever it was, table in the corner there (if it's still there). But they were so nice there.

And we still have the oral B buzzy toothbrush we bought there (of course we have bought many new heads for it), which has helped keep DS's teeth as sparkly as possible since.

No medications, yay!!!! Take THAT, silly typical dentists! :p
