Hey I am talking to a friend about circumcision, and I need a good article from a major source (like NY Times, TIME, etc..) that gives a good overview of the circ discussion in America.

I already explained to her my views, but I want to give a overview on the issue and let her say that there is a national discussion going on with this issue, even if she has not heard of it yet.

The article does not need to be perfect either.

What about the Men's Health article Separated at Birth? That's a mainstream source. If you google it you should find it pretty quickly.

You might also tell her the AAP recommends against routine infant circumcision.

Didn't Time have an article on the dropping rates of circ, in the last year? I have no idea how to access it.

I did a search on the menshealth website, couldn't find the article. What is the title? Here's all I found: http://find.menshealth.com/vignette/mh/searchpage.jsp (http://find.menshealth.com/vignette/mh/searchpage.jsp)

I couldn't find it on the Men's Health site either. I assume they only have stuff that goes back so far and this is too old. Here's (http://www.infocirc.org/MensHlth.htm) the article from Men's Health on another site.

How about the British Journal of Urology? They are not afraid to speak out against genital mutilation since they don't do it there!

The link didn't work. But thats not exactly what I am looking for. I am not looking for facts or figures, I am not trying to back up my argument in that way yet.

Here is my situation:

She is a blank slate on this issue, has never really thought about it before. After I explained to her my views, I could tell she was in agreement, but at this point she is really only seeing this from the view that "my friend views on circumcision"

I am looking for a article from a well known publication that talks about how there is a circumcision debate going on in the United States, that its an issue many groups find important and how this issue effects society.

The harder part (and why I came here for help) is I also am trying to find a balanced or pro-circ article.

I have found a couple of those "Circumcision provides many health benefits, yet there are a couple of crazies who think it should be outlawed". And obviously if I am exposing my friend to this issue for the first time, I dont want to give her an article filled with the same myths and incorrect information that can already be found in the minds of the uninformed.

Now that I made that a little clearer, does anybody have any ideas of where to look, or specific articles?

I think this article from St. Louis is exactly what you're looking for:

Here are some other mainstream stories that give (some) balance to the anti-circ side:

I'm in that one!

If you send this one I suggest you have something handy to rebutte Schoen's claims. You could tell him that Shoen is a circumsexual who writes poetry about circumcised penises.

Thats the link I am going to send. I also like that he is in here, it gives me a chance to explain the unknown complexity and passion of this issue that no one hears about.

I will explain he is a big pr circer, also will mention the poems and the studies on UTI's that he "fixed" and then explain who are some anti-circ leaders.

thanks everyone!
