Hi mamas! I have a really good friend (I nannied for her back in the day, now she's 24... yikes!) who is moving up here. She graduated from college last year as an art major and has spent the greater part of the last 2 years in Europe. She's back in the states now and is moving up to Portland. Yippee! I love this girl.

ANYHOW- she's looking for a job or volunteer work somewhere involving art. That's really broad, I know. She said she'll work as a receptionist if needed, wait tables, whatever... but she'd really like to get to know the art scene around here.

I thought I'd put my feelers out in case anyone here has any leads, or can tell me some cool places she could start looking. Any ideas?

What type of art is she interested in?

I just asked her, here's what she said:

I like all kinds of art. As I am desperately looking for a job, I don't feel too picky. I like abstract art and conceptual art. I am much better versed in painting and photography than I am in sculpture or performance art. I like anything progressive and/or avant-garde.
I applied for a position at a galley in SF called the Dolby Chadwick gallery. I didn't get the job b/c the position was already filled, but the type of art in this gallery is a good example of what I am into: (www.dolbychadwickgallery.com).
I'm not very interested in "pretty pictures" that rich people decorate their homes with (like the art in most Carmel galleries). I like art that makes you think.

What about the Portland Art Museum (http://www.pam.org/asp/about_us/employment.asp)?
