**milk donation request, if you can help

hi all,

i am posting on my behalf of a good friend who just had a baby 11 days ago (they *just* named him today, finally! oscar! how cute is that??!!), and is in very much need of any help that anyone can give her. because of surgery that she had a few years ago, her supply is lower than they would like. right now she is only able to provide just over half of what little oscar needs daily. they are hoping that in another 5-10 weeks what with the growth spurts and all that she will eventually be able to BF full time on her own, but right now they are getting by with generous milk donations from other moms in the area (i have been pumping, but my 18 mo old is starting to wean, it seems, and is teething like a fiend on top of that, so i am starting to be totally tapped out. bad timing! :( ).

i am writing on their behalf to see if by any chance anyone local has a frozen supply that they are realizing they are not going to be able to use. i know that most of the time that is not the case, but occasionally people get a bit of a supply built up that is more than they will need. and so rather than throw it out, we would offer to put it to good use.

thanks to you both! they did indeed post on milk share, and i know they have had some help there, but every little bit counts, and i thought we'd just give it a shot here just in case (i myself ended up having to dump about 30-40 oz about a year ago and was totally bummed it had gone to waste, ugh!). they say that most people in their situation need about 25 (!!!!!) regular donors until the mama's milk gets up to speed. they have about 7-8 right now.. so they are maintaining, but it's a little bit of a struggle.

at least the other good news is that we've had one PM so far with some milk, hurray! and also that it appears my "low milk" supply is at least partly do to DS' teething! so i got a few ounces this morning after a good sleeping night, yay!

Often surrogates have extra milk. If the intended parents don't want the milk they are often looking for "milk donor babies". You could try googling to find a few of their message boards and posting there.

I have tons of milk in my freezer thanks to a huge oversupply combined with nursing difficulties. I do want to keep some of my reserve, but I certainly won't use all of it in time. I've donated quite a bit to my LC who had some clients in need, but I think they're all covered for now.

So, if you need more, you're more than welcome to mine if someone can pick it up (we aren't very mobile these days) - I'm in the Sturbridge area. I hope this helps!
