I lost my baby Nathaniel at 16 weeks due to a placenta abruption which caused pre term labor. He was birthed at home and I did not need a D&C. I have major hemorrhages in my pregnancy where I lost 1 to 2 pints of blood each time. I think I had 8 total hemorrhages in the 16 weeks I was pregnant. He was my 2nd pregnancy. My first pregnancy with my daughter was perfect, no problems.
Well...
I have just finished my 3rd period cycle after loosing him. Dr. said I could TTC if we wanted after 3 cycles. So, really in a couple weeks we could TTC. I'm really scared though. I want soooooooo badly to be pregnant, but I am so scared to go through this again or worse.
Do I have much hope of a healthy pregnancy and baby? What are my chances?
Is there anything I can do to help prevent a placenta abruption again?
Thanks everyone.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it's so hard and wish that you are healing well. Take care of yourself. I found this website with much information about healing after a loss and statistics. You can go there and see if the info helps. Take care.

Hi,

so sorry for your loss; it's hard, I know.

I can't share a story about pregnancy after a P.A. since I'm not there yet, but I wanted to chime in as I am in close to the same place as you. I lost my DD at 22 weeks on June 25th to a placental abruption (though truth be told, there's some question of whether it was a P.A. or if I had an infection that started premature labor).

I'll be TTC at the end of this month or early October, so I'll be paralleling you.

I *do* know, from my research, that if they can rule out any underlying conditions that would have caused your abruption, then the chances of it happening again are slim.

I'm sure you are like me, though, in that any future pregnancies will be stressful and anxious. I feel like I lost my innocence with my loss, if that makes sense.

Hugs to both of you! I am so sorry for your losses. Life is so not fair sometimes!! I had a discussion with my midwife during my last pregnancy about placental abruption and she recommends following Dr. Brewer's diet to help prevent that from happening in future pregnancies. The Brewer diet is what they taught in my Bradley childbirth class. If you are not familiar with it, just google it. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of sites explaining it and why they think it might help prevent abruption. Good luck ya'll! I am trying to conceive now, too.
