austin is here
hi ladies
austin made his mad rush into this world at 2 :27 am in my father's truck.

stats:
8 pounds 10 ounces
20.25 inches long
black hair
he is very bruised.

------------------
birth story:
2 am i woke up having urge to pee. went to the bathroom and nothing was coming out. it hurt bad and decided that wasnt normal. called my parents. mom came up the stairs(2nd floor apartment) and i had to pee again- when i went to the bathroom- the was bright red blood. mom helped me down the stairs and in to the car. we drove bout 15 block when i told my dad to pull over. he refused and said he is gonna get my to the hosptial asap. i told him to drive through the red lights and just speed like a bat out of hell. we were about 8 minutes away from the hospital when i took my pants off and just pushed him out. took about a minute to get him completely out. pulled into the er and dad yelled at the security to get doctors and nurses out to help. 4 nurses and 1 doctor came out and checked him out moved us both out of the car- i hadnt delievered the placenta and austin was still attached so it took lots of team work to get us out and inside.

right now austin is in the nicu being observed since his oxygen levels were very sparatic. he will be there for 8 hours for observation. they also found a heart murmur but dont think its abig deal

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I'm so happy for you that baby Austin is here!!! What an amazing entrance into the world. I know how uncomfortable you've been these last weeks and I'm glad you're all okay!

Well, I'm 41 weeks tomorrow. Can't believe that I'm still pregnant. This has to be the most challenging thing I've ever done. I'm either on the couch crying or out walking walking walking. I contract irregularly but nothing ever focuses into a pattern. Currently 4 cm dilated and 70% effaced. Craziness.

Anyone have post-dates positive stories to share? I'm starting to wonder if this will ever happen. :(

Laura, hang in there! These last few weeks are so hard. Maybe there are some sewing projects you can work on to pass the time...? :D

I wish! I have so many projects to work on, but I need to service my sewing machine and get the toddler out of there to get any progress. I found the book I need to service my own machine, and it turns out it's incredibly rare. I got it at the library and had to return it (someone else had it on hold) before I got photocopies, so now it's on my hold list again. By the time I get it I'll have two kids! Yikes! Maybe I can get someone else to go get photocopies for me. :wink

I've been knitting since it's portable, but most of my time has been spent stringing beads and reading books with Maddy, on the side of doing the usual laundry/dishes/house-maintenance, and attempts to nap. Right now I'm at the neighbor's house because her kid is sick at home and she needed to go do some things.

BTW... If anyone is making plans to bring me food (don't feel obligated... between our unwillingness to drive anywhere and my tight food budget, I'm terrible at meal providing for others!) I don't need any dinners, really. I'd prefer breakfast things. I had a list of breakfasts to make for the freezer but I don't think I'm going to get to it. It's that important first meal that really gets me through the day! We're not all that picky. I know when I had Maddy I just wanted to EAT, didn't really care what. :lol

so what do you mean by breakfast things...? like egg dishes or...? we just gave away our home gym on freecycle, and the lady brought us 2 dozen eggs from her own chickens! so we are rolling in eggs right now. wow, is that ever a weird image. :lol

Breakfast things: scones, quiche, breakfast casseroles (I actually have never had one, but I've seen recipes and they look good!), waffles, pancakes, baked french toast (can be frozen), premixed smoothies in freezer bags (I do this often so I can just toss into the blender in the morning), granola bars, breakfast bars... we'll eat anything!

Pumpkin pancakes sound delish!

Holy CRAP!!! 45 weeks!!!! Amazing story, but slightly depressing to think that this baby might want to stay inside me for another 4 weeks!!! I'm giving myself until 42 weeks before doing anything rash, (like induction) but it's absolutely a challenge at this point to trust my body. (Cut me a little slack....I'm an L&D nurse trying my best to balance both worlds that I live and work in). *sigh* I think more ice cream would help. It's my biggest comfort at this point!

How're things going Laura?

You had to ask! :lol

Well today I tried that cleaning method where you set a timer and just do what you can in 15 min per room, and after an hour and a half I was totally spent. It doesn't work as smoothly as I'd hoped, because I had to keep adding minutes when I lost minutes tending to Maddy. I did get it to a tolerable level, though. My right hip doesn't last long before it's got me hobbling. I think I'm carrrying a good 45 lbs of baby-related weight and it's really wearing me out, not to mention the many times I have to pick Maddy up every day. So then I tried to take a nap while Maddy climbed on me and wiggled and kicked me and shoved books in my face insisting I read them. This was after I read five books to her and then closed my eyes. I think I managed to keep my eyes closed for almost 30 min, though.

Finally gave up on that and came downstairs and sat down and put on PBS for Maddy. Just when I got comfortable, she peed all over the floor. She opened her potty, closed her potty, then stood there and watched herself pee all over the floor. So then I had to get up and mop. Now we're eating microwave Trader Joe's mini tacos. Oh, now they're all gone and Maddy wants more :eyesroll. I want bedrest!

Oh, and now she's pooping. In her potty, but I still have to take it upstairs to dump and clean it out. Cliff isn't home, or I'd make him do it.

The full moon brought on lots of BH ctx, but thankfully not labor. I don't actually want labor yet, I just want to be able to rest first! I think I'm going to get some acupuncture for relaxation this week, if I can swing it.

cellarstella
09-16-2008, 10:53 PM
OK, in case anyone was worried :wink, I dimmed the lights, put on some Cocteau Twins, and did some yoga stretches and as much deep breathing/meditation as one can do with a toddler using her as a jungle gym. Maddy liked doing the yoga with me, though. I think we're going to do this every night until the Big Day. I'm feeling much more relaxed and ready to take on the big bedtime attempt to get comfortable. Everybody concentrate on September 23rd for me. That's the night I'm focusing on to start labor.

Hi cellerstella, so I noticed that you live awfully close to us... we are also in brooklyn, right across the street from the top of the park. Anyways, we work as a nanny during the week but the lady we work for just had her second baby early this morning so we have LOTS of free time right now. If you are needing some free time we would love to hang out with your LO for a couple of hours in the near future- not as a nanny just for some free mama time:wink. Let me know if your interested and maybe we can meet for a play date first. the kiddos love meeting new friends...

Thanks so much for the offer! We should meet at the park... tomorrow? So DD can meet you and your kids before being whisked off alone with you guys! I have no idea how she'll react after the baby is born--if she'll get restless and cranky or if the baby will be enough to captivate her with it's slow little schedule of pooping and nursing and sleeping. It's great to know I have the option of sending her to the park! Even if I go with you, but you take over the chasing parts, that would be totally awesome. I took DD to the park as a newborn in a sling quite a bit so we could bounce on that springy thing or swing, and it was really calming for her.

there were quite a few times when i was pregnant with ebin that i fell asleep from exhaustion and isaac did not. he dropped his nap during that pregnancy. i'd try to make him nap though but he'd creep away and play quietly while i zonked out.

my dad--proud grandpa- says there wasnt any damage-- dad had placed two thick towels on the passenger seat and 2 more on the floor before i had gotten in just in case i was leaking or anything. after he went home he took the towels out washed them checked to see if bodily fluids soaked through the towels and got on the chairs and he was amazed it didnt. the items that took the blunt of the damage was my shirt and pants because i had to have something to wrap austin in since i didnt have blankets with me( i didnt even grabbed my hospital bag that was by the door) didnt think to grab a towel that was on the floor- just in case i was bleeding bad

Watson Alexander is here!!!!

I can't believe how fast these past few days have gone! I'm sorry not to have posted until now!

Here's the condensed version....

I met with the midwives on sunday to formulate a plan.....castor oil wed and AROM on fri at 42 and 2. Well thank god it didn't come to that! Labor FINALLY started on it's own on Monday evening. It was about 9 hours total from start to finish. 2 hours early labor, 5 hours active, and 2 frickin' hours to push him out!

It turns out he was acynclitic (head tilted) and that gave me back labor the whole time. pushing him out was absolutely the hardest thing I've ever had to do. If it hadn't been for the midwives and my family I couldn't have done it. But then he came out and ohhhhhh, instant love. 9 lb 10 oz and only a tiny tear that didn't need to be stitched.

Nursing is going well (super on the right and painful on the left....strange but we're working on it) and I'm beginning to get my strength back.

I'm most proud of letting labor take it's course and having him come at 41 weeks 6 days. Those last 2 weeks were a lesson that I guess I needed to learn. As a nurse I will have so much more compassion for my post-dates mamas!

Laura said that she was born about 3:30 or 3:45 and that she and baby are doing fine. She had her at home with a doula and estimates that she weighs 8 lbs. I will call those who said that they would bring dinners. If anyone else would like to as well PM me. Happy day!

I just saw this update from mamanurse in new posts:

Hazel Autumn
Born 10/24 @ 9:05pm
7 pounds even
19 3/4 inches

Incredibly brutal (and long) labor and interesting delivery. Such a surprise compared to my first all natural "easy" first. Nursing well so far. Now going to sleep after 42 hours of being awake.

Wow! I just remembered this thread:o Thank you all you PDX mamas for your thoughts and warm welcomes. I'm touched you were thinking of me in labor.

I've linked to my announcement in my DDC (http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=988409&highlight=) that has links to both my birth story and pics of my sweet baby Hazel. My fav pic of her is in my sig, though.

The saga of my traumatic birth experience continued last night when I hemorrhaged and then had a D&C (http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=992699). Please think of me in these next few days as I find myself in tears constantly.

Danielle-I'm so sorry about your loss and hope you find warmth and healing
