looking for OB in Omaha

I am newly pregnant. With my first, I was in Washington state, so I don't have many connections here for care. I know this is taboo on MDC, but I am not completely sure I can do natural - I had an epidural last time. I'm maybe more open to trying natural, but I am a wimp and haven't made up my mind yet. Anyway, I've considered a midwife through Methodist, but I'm also looking for recommendations for OB's through Methodist or Lakeside/Alegent. Any recs would be appreciated!

I had my son with Jenda Stauffer, a CNM @ Methodist. She does epidurals all the time....and the care is much better during pregnancy and the birth than you would recieve from an OB.

I have a friend who went through the midwives @ Methodist. She liked them, but she couldn't tell me how they were different from an OB. She still felt like the visits were short and they didn't offer her natural remedies/supports as much as she expected. She went natural and said that they were amazing during birth, though. I like the idea that the midwife is with you through all of active labor, rather that just coming in to "catch."

Anyone with experiences - positive or negative - at Methodist or Lakeside? I've heard that Methodist has great lactation consultant, but that Lakeside has great facilities and kinder nursing staff... is this true?

I see Dr. Rober Bossert, he did my c/s and my 2 VBACs and will do this one as well. :) He delivers at all the Alegent hospitals, so Lakeside is included. In fact one of his offices is right outside Lakeside by Walgreens there. I was going to interview MWs this time, but the Methodist ones can't take me and I was too sick to keep my appt at UNMC so I decided to stick w/ him. He's always been great so I figured why change?

Thanks for the info, Jennifer. I'm gathering that you have generally been satisfied with Alegent's staff and service, too? I've been told that Lakeside doesn't do as much to promote bf, but I kind of figure since I'm already committed to it, they aren't going to dissuade me.

Methodist won't take you because you're VBAC?

I appreciate you getting back to me. I don't think NE has a very big population on MDC, but it's good to know there are a couple of us around here!

HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Sean McFadden or Kay Thatcher. They are husband and wife and VERY pro breast feeding, very pro natural birth and they go to Bergan, Methodist and UNMC. They are simply the best there is around. Very kind, caring, understanding, they ASK for a birth plan and they encourage it. No formula hand-outs, and they are all about the family. I have worked L&D for five years and there is no one out there like them. He did both my deliveries and his wife, Dr. Thatcher is just as nice. You see a DOCTOR each visit, the DOCTOR does all the ultrasounds and it is close to get to. They are in Papillion in the second floor of the American National Bank building. Hey now I worked at Methodist and I was kind...ha ha. I highly recommend Methodist as a place to deliver. Their lactation dept. is second to none. Plus Children's Hospital is just steps away....

I never delivered at Lakeside, I was at Bergan the last 2 times and Immanuel the first time. The first time at Bergan, I saw the LC and she was very nice etc. I wanted to see her the next time and I never saw one. Now I didn't really need one seeing as how I had 3 LLL leaders I could've called and am a member etc, but it would've been nice. Like you said though, if it's something you want to do, they won't be able to change that. We did have some problems at Immanuel w/ them giving AJ formula and such, but I had had an unplanned c/s and was a ftm, it was just not a good birth overall. :( Things were fine at Bergan though. It's the only Alegent hospital that takes VBACs normally.

No, the MW at Methodist are not allowed to handle VBACs.

I delivered my last two children with Dr. Guy Schropp at Midlands, but I know he has Bergan priveleges too. He was awesome. With each child he listend to my needs and accomodated them to the best of our abilities. I loved the support I recieved from him to labor and birth the way *I* wanted to.
