My son is going to have to have some dental work done under general anesthesia at Children's. We've been there before, but just in the emergency room and we have mixed feelings about the care there. So, as general anesthesia is pretty terrifying for me, I want to be prepared in knowing how the procedure will be done, how much they will be willing to let me stay with my baby and how I will best be able to get around their protocol, if need be. Has anyone had similar or even vaguely similar experiences there?

I'm down in Durango but just had a good friend take her toddler DD up there for surgery. She was able to stay in the room until the DD was asleep, and then they came and got her when the DD was in recovery, even before she had woken up. :thumb

The best way to figure everything out is to talk to the dentist, and the anesthesiologist.

My dd also had dental work at Children's hospital and I thought it went as well as it could. They let DH and I back in to the OR until she was asleep, and we were with her in recovery as she woke up :love My dd was 22 months at the time, and while it was incredibly nervewracking, they made me feel okay :)

thank you all for the replies! they've made me feel a lot calmer about this situation. it's bad enough having to have your baby in the hospital, but it's so much worse when you have to worry about fighting doctors and nurses to do what's best for babe. my experiences in the hospital giving birth and in the ER (at Children's) were unpleasant and those memories were adding to my anxiety about all this. but i do feel better now, thank you all again!
