Hello!

My best friend when I was 9 years old has been living near London for a decade now and has just given birth to her second child, at home, in the birthing tub:joy:

I won't be able to visit for some time. I'd love to send her new daughter a really special gift, but don't want to spend the earth on postage.

Can anyone based in the UK recommend a good online shop for special baby things so that I can order and have it shipped locally? Also looking for something for the babe's 7 yr old big sister!

Thanks!

You could have a look at wahm.co.uk or wahmall.co.uk :-)

If you type "UK" into the search box on www.etsy.com it also picks up UK sellers, and there's quite a few. Did you have any idea what you were looking for? Clothes, toys, jewellery (silver spoons, that kind of stuff) books, or more?
Otherwise, you're just going to end up with my list of pretty much everyone I've ever bought from, which gets pretty long.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I'd love specific ideas on what to get, too, honestly.

When her first was born, I sent a sling and a particular kind of baby mobile that my friend wanted. She still has these, and all her baby gear.

I was thinking of clothes, maybe something special for a 1 year old rather than a newborn, and a pretty for the 7 year old -- maybe clothes, maybe a toy. I have a 7 yr old girl in my life here who gets elf and fairy things from me at birthdays.

Books are always good, too. What is the major chain of booksellers in England again? It has been a few years since I've been there, but I certainly bought enough books on that trip, I should remember!

I like some of these shops:

www.peterandjanestore.com - clothes
www.letterbox.co.uk - toys
www.gltc.co.uk - for older child
http://www.welovefrugi.com/ - clothes
http://www.bumpto3.com/ - good general baby shop

love love love these blankets - you get the name sewn on. I've given several as gifts.:

(didn't take as long as they say and you could phone for a faster service)
