View Full Version : I think that's my mucous plug gone...hmmm...

Well, I think I lost my mucous plug. Actually I think I've been losing it since Friday - had some brownish (light brownish) stuff in my undies, then most of the time since then I have wiped after peeing and found tinged mucus - like, pinkish brown. I'm one day away from the magical 36 week mark!

So today I wipe and there's a teeny spot of blood on the tissue - like - teeeny. So I'm thinking "hmmm...". Then all of a sudden, a whole bunch of lovely snotty looking stuff comes out accompanied by what must be old blood - really dark brown bits. Lovely - gosh - how yukky!

Called the midwife to let her know my body has made a few changes, and she doesn't seem concerned - just that my body is doing as it should. I haven't had any contractions other than normal braxton hicks, Josie (baby) is moving and jiggling about like usual. I did check myself and I can't actually feel my cervix (well hardly) any more - it seems incredibly high up now, so I guess that would be effacement.

How exciting - thank goodness I'm 36 weeks tomorrow. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. I did have the feeling that she would come early though - my horribly stressful job has contributed to that feeling, and I just went on maternity leave on Friday because of it.

I suppose I'm expecting (because of the quickness of all this) to go into labor in the next week or two - certainly now I don't think I'll make it to my due date, which is October 27th. I'm not worried though - just going to take it a little easier. I guess I should probably clean up the house and get another pack of chux pads and perhaps some diapers...haha!

What do you guys think? What's the longest you guys went after lots of mucios like this before going into labor properly?

You sure you want to know how long it's been between losing plug and going into labor? You might be disheartened at the responses!

AFM- I've been losing bits of mine and chunks for more than a week. Some people lose theirs and go into labor in a few days (like 2-3). Others will lose it several times (it can re-form after a couple days) before they actually have the baby.

As for your cvx being difficult to find, that probably just means it's more posterior (pointing back) than anterior. Mine seems to move frequently over the course of 24 hours. Sometimes it's very posterior and I can hardly reach it, other times it's right there and I can find it very easily.

Good luck! You're certainly getting closer!

Ah - I'm not sick of being pregnant or anything - I'm actually quite a chilled out pregnant person, so it's not as though I'm all about giving birth - but, I kind of was wondering because I'm thinking this might be a sensible time to finally get that crib set up and a pack of diapers (we are waiting on the G-Diapers) in the house just in case she comes sooner rather than later!

If it's 3 weeks, that'd be ever so convenient because I only have just gotten off on maternity leave (Friday!) and I just have soooooo much I want to get done before she gets here..heh heh!:eyesroll

Anyway - you ever hear of anyone losing a huge mucous plug late in pregnancy and then going on for another 6 weeks, then their babe has been dropped already for two weeks....lol. I dunno.... Heck, maybe I'll last 'til 43 weeks..but...I dunno about that either...

Childbirth is a beautiful mystery!

I'm one who lost my plug and went into labor fairly soon afterwards. With both my previous pregnancies blood on the tp meant labor was starting within a few hours...but that's how my body works.

With DD2 I lost my plug and went into labor a couple weeks later, if I remember correctly.

I know it's possible to go weeks after losing your mucous plug, but with my first I lost it in the morning and went into labor that afternoon, and with my second, I started labor the day after losing it (with the third, I didn't notice it at all, so I couldn't say).

with my dd i went into labor exactly one week after losing my mucus plug. My friends co-worker went 2 or 3 weeks before she had her baby after she lost her mucus plug.

I lost my mucous plug with DD1 at 34 weeks, she was born at 38. I lost the first plug (it regenerates) with DD2 at 24 weeks, she was also born at 38 weeks, no preterm labor or anything like that either.

Thanks for all the replies! It's s confusing when what you think will be one color (or maybe two max) comes out as a multicolored thing with old bloo and whatnot. Really got me confused as to what it was - the plug, or bloody show, you know?

Well, I had a nice "real" contraction last night - from the top to the bottom of my uterus, and she has been sitting totally anterior most of today, so she's getting there I think. I think in my nonchalent instinctive kind of way, she'll be coming in the next week or two. I had a nonchalent instinctive feeling about being pregnant too, so I suppose we will have to wait and see.

It's so exciting to have these things happen though - to know that all is well and going to plan with her. Now I just have to make sure the house is ready...I have so much to do!
