we had a nice meet-up last week and thought i'd put out feelers to see if anyone is interested in taking in the butterfly show at carleton next week?

here's the link
http://www.carleton.ca/biology/butterfly/

i don't know if my bub will like it, but he likes birds, and it's in the greenhouses so it shouldn't be too cold :thumb

What a neat idea! I'd definitely be interested. I can't do the 11th (breastfeeding challenge at St. Laurent! - anyone else going??), but otherwise I'm pretty flexible on those dates. :)

That looks like a really great thing to do! DD loves butterflies...birds, bats, bees...anything that flies, really :D
We can definitely do anytime later in the week...my mom's in town visiting until Wed. (the 8th), so maybe Thurs. or Friday?
I missed you all last time and I'd love to make it to this one...:love

we're good for the thursday or friday. yeah, just thought it would be neat to take in something totally different even if it doesn't last too long :wink

there's always the park nearby afterwards too

cynthia, i plan on bringing callum to the challenge. i work in the afternoon so am thankful it is at a time when we can attend - looking forward to it!

thursday may be the charm - worked last week!

it is a free show - they have a donations box just so everyone knows - the nesbitt building is close to bronson ave - we'll be walking if the weather is good, if not we'll probably park at brewer park

i've only been to butterfly shows in more tropical climes so am looking forward to something in our own backyard!

Thursday works well for me too. :)

ok so the consensus thus far is thursday
let's set it as that day then
so thursday am or pm?
i know a lot of school groups go to this, which other than being a bit busy doesn't bother me at all.
am assuming school groups will probably be there most from around 10am-2pm
but honestly, any time is okay with us
callum naps around 1130am ish but i can stretch that later or start it earlier
so
am or pm for our ottawa mamas?

I got a message on the Ottawa AP group that said that on Thursday anytime after 2 would be the least busy...that might be better. Thoughts...?
:D

Morning works better for me (10ish?), or early afternoon (1:00).

That's so funny – we just saw the butterflies on Saturday.
I'd love to go again, though. It's magical! When? I'm a five minute walk away so anytime works for me...

alright - let's narrow it down to 2 different times of day on thursday

either 930am-ish
or 2pm-ish

what does everyone prefer?

was it crazy busy on saturday? we did several trails in the gatineau this weekend and sunday was really busy...lots of families though

It was busy – but not too busy to be fun. Either time Friday works for me so other folks should take their pick.

Unfortunately, weekdays are not possible for me due to work...but I didn't know about the butterflies and will definitely take my little one to see them before it's over, so thanks for the tip...and I'm in if anyone wants to do something on a weekend :D

Hmm...9:30's pretty early for us, and 2-ish is getting late (naptime), lol, so whichever is more convenient for everyone else, we'll just make work for us. :) Probably the afternoon one would be better, but we can do either one.

i even set up a poll with different times - oh i only put 930ish because it might be a little ahead of the crowd...

i hear you, afternoon means waking callum up from his nap, but if i walk him in the stroller maybe he'll sleep til we get there since it's about a 45min walk and then i'll sling it with him

seems like afternoon is the consensus, so maybe as more of a middle ground we could aim for around 1:30 or 1:45 pm?

we'll probably hit the park for a little while after the show
but maybe going a little before 2 might be more manageable and a good compromise for all?

arlene

oh i'll be wearing my lazy fabric headband sort of thing. i'll wear a red one so i am even more obvious!

1:45 is good for me. We'll probably head right home after the show for his afternoon nap, unless he falls asleep in the carrier while we're there.

Whereabouts are we meeting? I don't know anything about the layout of the campus.

the nesbitt building
here's a map of carleton (you'll see it's close to the river and bronson and the athletics complex)

see you at 1:45!

if it's not raining, which it isn't supposed to, maybe in front of the nesbitt building (i think there's a big lawn sign)

MaybeGracie
10-08-2008, 06:19 PM
Okay, I see it, great. I'll look for you around the lawn sign in the front of the building if it's not raining, or just inside the building if it is. See you guys tomorrow. :)

so again for all coming tomorrow, 1.45pm at nesbitt building - outdoor lawn sign if it's not raining, just inside the building if it is.

see you there!

I really hope we can make it...Katie's got a cough, though, so I don't want to push her and I don't want to spread it around...
I'm going to play it by ear. If we don't make it, hope you all have a great time! :love

well, it ended up being a small group this afternoon! cynthia and jacob and me and callum. but the boys seemed to enjoy the butterflies (callum took a bit of time to realize that there was more to the greenhouse than just other people and plants.

it was really lovely, and we went to brewer park afterward.

was great spending time again with you cynthia and jacob, and am glad it was a fun experience for jacob and callum!

hope to see you at the breastfeeding challenge. and for our other ottawa mamas, maybe next time :D

oh, and i will probably post about the green space we are trying to secure for somerset ward (we're on the committee) - it's called dominican park and we'll need as much support from fellow citizens as possible. will post the stats etc, just not in this post

Another time, maybe? ;)
