VBAC homebirth in Phoenix

My cousin doesn't have MDC and found out she is eight weeks along and does not want a hospital birth, nor an OB for that matter. Does anyone have any midwives that do homebirths and VBAC by any chance? Thanks in advance! :)

Unfortunately, VBAC homebirths are illegal in AZ, ridiculous as that is. She would have to do it "under the radar." I don't know of any midwives who would do that, but maybe another member here does? I believe midwives who are NMDs can do them, but I'm not totally sure on that. It is actually not even easy to find a doctor to do a hospital VBAC. I am in Prescott and have a friend who had a home VBAC with an unnamed midwife (she wouldn't tell anyone, to protect the midwife), so it is possible. Best wishes to her!

Call MWs around and see what they can do/advise. Perhaps your friend can plan unassisted CB?

I'm pregnant with my third, planning a second vbac at home this time (first was in a hospital). I found out that midwives can lose their license for assisting a vbac whether at home or in a hospital. There is a naturopathic doctor that will do them, however. She is, technically "under he radar" since there are a lot of paranoid laws about vbacs. Her name is Farra Swan and her phone number is 480-820-0911. She has an office in Mesa near Banner Desert Hospital and I think somewhere else as well. I highly recommend anyone who's interested in a vbac at home schedule a free prenatal consult with her since she knows her stuff and has been delivering babies for almost 30 years. I also HIGHLY recommend 2 resources to help anyone feel more comfortable giving birth at home. One is Ricki Lake's documentary "The Business of Being Born" and the other is Dr. Marsden Wagner's book "Born in the USA". The latter is chock full of statistics showing that it is NOT necessarily safer for a low-risk pregnant woman to give birth in a hospital. There are just too many unnecessary medical interventions being done which have led to our ridiculous national c-section rate (close to 30% now!) Good luck!
