HCG levels after natural m/c

Hi mamas,
I hope you don't mind me posting to this forum.

A dear friend of mine suffered a loss a few weeks ago at about 10 weeks gestation. She opted to m/c naturally, and that has happened.

She had an u/s to confirm that everything was gone (sorry, I'm not sure how to put that) and it is.

But, her HCG level is at 196. Any thoughts/experiences with this?

mama, I hope your friend is doing okay.
I have not had a natural miscarriage myself, but two D&Cs, and the last time it took over a month before my hcg levels were down to normal. It seems that natural miscarriage or not, there is so much variation in the normal range. Somtimes it takes women a longer time to get back to normal.

I am sorry for what your friend had to go through :-( It can take a while for hcg levels to get back to zero (or actually <5 which is considered not pregnant). When I had a m/c at 11.5 weeks early this year, I had weekly hcg levels drawn and it took quite a while to go back down. My weekly numbers, starting at the m/c date were 24,000 10,600 3,970 171 30 10 5 and then finally a 3. So it took me 7 weeks to go back to a non pregnant hcg level.
