I was just prescribed this type of contraceptive from my OBGYN, which evidently is a evenly dosed continuous birth control pill that does not produce a cycle - no period. This seems weird to me - unnatural. I worry that this could cause long term harm to myself. My doctor assures me that it is fine and many female doctors in the practice use it. Does anybody here use this or has heard of this?

The reason it was prescribed is because I have had dramatic cyclical mood swings since ds was born and is now almost 3. Finally my dh and I think we have pinpointed the problem - my menstrual cycle. I have terrible pms that continues through my period - causing irritability, sadness, despair, and anger. As soon as my period is over, I feel better, but emotionally drained. Then, as soon as my mood has stabilized and I have found balance again, I begin pmsing and the mood swings start in again. :irked: Also, when I take two pills because I missed one the day before, I get jittery all morning and depressed into the afternoon and night. The next day, I am fine again. This drug is suppose to stabilize me. What are you thoughts and experiences with this drug.

The name is Microgestin.

sounds like a mini pill. I have heard good things about the mini pill. I would have to think pretty hard about going on BCPs to regulate my mood. That seems like a cover to a deeper hormonal problem.

Actually, if you are on any form of birth control pills, you are not having periods. Even standard birth control pills...the monthly bleeding that women experience while taking regular BCP, is simply withdrawl bleeding from taking the placebo pills one week a month. In order to have a true period, you need to be ovulating.

I was put on the mini pill after my pregnancy. I didn't have any problems with it. It was a bittersweet blessing not to have my period. It bothered me to not have my period. I stopped taking it over a month ago and I'm waiting for my cycle to start up again. It hasn't yet...but, I'm breastfeeding still, so maybe thats why? Or...I could be pregnant? eeekk...

There is NO danger to not having your period. None. Take the pill and it will really help. I am seriously considering going on it to regulate my moods, also. I have been keeping track and there is a dramatic shift close to my period and ovulation.

Go for it. It will not hurt you at all.
